  1. BAck to the constitutionality question, I stand by my assertion that the Supremes (if they even hear the case) would find it to be Constitutional even if challenged by the states enacting laws saying they refuse to comply with it. Here's someone's read based on the current makeup of the Court. http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/...-of-history/?hp She considers several of the judges in her analysis and guesses there isn't much chance of oveturning the law.
  2. No offense, I ain't taking money management advice from the message board.
  3. That's the best BMW makes. I love that car. When are they going to fix the ridiculous 5 Series? It looks like crap.
  4. Get out of my brain. That's weird.
  5. Thanks--and by the way, I was trying to cogitate on what is good inflation insurance.
  6. I got my MBA from the WSJ so forgive my question. This is for the GG/MAgox crew. I know Tom will answer because he thinks he knows everything. The implications of the Fed buying treasuries is what? Higher inflation as we have too many dollars on hand that no one wants? Is the best inflation bet TIPS (too lazy to look up the acronym...inflation...protected (?)treasuries).
  7. I feel like people not being able to afford their homes and the government interceding to keep them in said homes caused a problem once in this country. Just looked in my history book and couldn't find that chapter. Oh, maybe because that bit of history was so FREAKING recent it's not in the history books yet! Jesus H people. Are we really going to keep people in houses they can't afford? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/27/business...UZoeEUJ4p1/08Yw And I love this **** about "no new funds." WTF? Anytime you take my money for one purpose and spend it for another, it's new funds to me MFer. How about giving back some TARP if you're not going to use it? Or pay down the debt? Unlucky me. I was poorest during the Bush/Clinton years when no one was there to bail me out.
  8. Less would have been fired if they'd fired some of their own. They were unwilling to cull their own herd.
  9. I didn't even know what he meant so for a change, I let what seemed idiotic slide. Thanks for having my back in a moment of weakness. Keepthefaith, WTF are you talking about?
  10. So I should spend it all now while it's worth something? Time to tell my wife we're buying the M3.
  11. Actually, because I'm an owner, it's mo' money for the employees who are enrolled in the 401K plan. We agree at the end of the year to share X% of the profits with everyone who has a 401K account. Less people enrolled meas mo' money for the people who are enrolled.
  12. Regarding other countries, I don't know. Think about it. A mistake of monumental proportion and not a single person fired. Government jobs are a !@#$ing joke. .
  13. You mean the government estimates were optimistic and wrong? Let's hope that never happens again.
  14. I can one-up that. At the end of the year, we profit share--dumping a portion of our profits into people's 401K account...if they have an account set up with us. This has traditionally been a 3-5K deposit. Every year, we announce that we do this and tell people that as long as they have $1 in their 401K account, they will get free money. And STILL, we only have 75% participation. Some of the people who don't participate are professionals. Some are people for whom 5K is 10 or more % of their salary. We browbeat these people. We hand them the forms. About the only thing we haven't done is force their hands across the page. I almost want to fire them for being so dumb. But maybe they are all independently wealthy. In the end, mo' money for me.
  15. Or just a plot mistake. 90% of the supposed clues have been nothing more than...well...nothing.
  16. Those quotes of people's 401Ks make me feel rich. I'm gonna be the moneybags of my retirement community! Seriously though. No matter who you are, you should be auto-deducting your pay into some retirement vehicle. I started doing it at age 25...hit it up once for my first home down payment (back when you had to come up with money when buying a house) and have just made deposits since. It's not huge but it grows every year.
  17. If it's not Bush's fault that the intel was wrong, then wasn't it his responsibility, having lead the country into a war under false pretenses to fire some people and own it?
  18. Let me ask you what I've asked others. The intel that was used to justify war was wrong. That cannot be contested by any but the most moronic. Definitely no nukes. Intel on WMDs was not right either. Not that Saddam didn't have them but he didn't have the facilities and stockpiles used to justify the attacks. Oh, and no ties to 9-11. So who got fired for that monumental intel !@#$up? Bueller...Bueller?
  19. Hmm. I am a fan and have watched every episode. Two days after the show is over, I'll never care to discuss it again. I mean, the Sopranos ended several years ago and guess what: I don't care any more about what Meadow saw as she entered the restaurant.
  20. No doubt. That doesn't mean he won't be an annoying !@#$ in the lockerroom to the rest of the team who maybe are suspicious of Jesus's rooting interests.
  21. Damn my non-diety.
  22. There are nice conversion programs to convert from iTunes to one of the Android players, Doubletwist being the most popular. For maybe $300, I can convert my entire iTunes library to the lesser DRMed format that allows for even easier transfer of files. As much as I don't want to be slave to iTunes, it is better than Amazon especially for non-music. And the iTunes store is definitely better than Amazon. I need some hand time with a Nexus to consider it further. As someone suggested, I'll probably wait out to see the Nexus 2 vs. the iPhone next G.
  23. My plan is up in July which will be after the next iPhone should be out. I'll probably just get another one. Not to turn this into the Consumer Forum but my biggest hangup with the Nexus is that there is no native iTunes application. I know about Doubletwist and others but I'd just like to keep iTunes and be done with it. I have made a huge commitment to iTunes (maybe I shouldn't have but that ship sailed 1000 purchased songs and TV shows and movies ago). If the Nexus had a native iTunes application, I'd probably make the jump. I suspect that the next iPhone will finally have mutitasking and a flash camera. And I hope and pray to the god I don't believe in that it is not locked into AT&T.
  24. LEt me rephrase that last sentence for you in a way that makes more sense. How about stop attacking counties and getting into useless wars and stop foreign subsidies and stop wasting money on healthcare, education programs that don't work, and putting drug-using criminals in jail...and the DoD and on and on. When you're deep in debt, saving money from one place (a war) doesn't mean the money should be spent in others.
