  1. Let me start buy saying although Vincent Jackson is a Buddy Nix guy the Redskins and probably Tampa are going to throw the farm at him and Nix is to smart to get in a bidding war. Mario Williams is simply not coming to Buffalo. He has stated that it is more about a right fit for him and not the money. He said something along the lines of how he is already rich from his rookie contract.

WR- Look for them to sign Eddie Royal or Early Doucet. Chan knows Royal well from coaching against him at Georgia Tech. Buddy knows Doucet well from scouting that region for the Chargers.

They will hope whoever they get will make a decent # 2 Receiver. I would also look for the to draft a small speed receiver with one of our picks in the 4th round.

LT- It appears the Bills will let Bell test the market. That being said I don't think he will be back. Look for them to spend the #10 pick on a tackle. They seem to view Hairston as a great depth swing tackle rather than a starter.

DE- This will be addressed in the second round of the draft with a guy like Vin Curry or Cam Johnson. Branch will be gone. Buddy made it clear he thinks there will still be quality at DE by round 2.

OLB- Our one big free agent will be Kamerion Wimbley. He will be released. It is thought the Chargers and Bills will have the most interest in him. The Chargers are not in the position to offer him what the Bills can and will. Wimbley strikes me as a guy that $ is the sole factor as to where he will play. I think Dave Wannstedt will use him as a 2 down LB and a 3rd down DE.

CB- I believe we will address this in the 3rd round of the draft and possibly a low teir free agent.

So there you have it, what I beleive will be are two biggest free agent signings and our first four draft positions. Not all that exciting, but realistic knowing how Buddy and co. run things. With these moves Buddy will be able to focus on extending his own guys like Levitre and Bryd when the time comes, which he has made clear is his #1 priority. Flame away.

Wow, I'm surprised by how little I agree with you, since your points are all well thought out.

1- I don't think we go OL in the 1st.

2- I do think we lose Bell

3- I agree we will not get Jackson or Williams

4- Wimbley would be a full time DE, not OLB

5- If we don't sign a good on in FA, we draft WR in the 1st.

  2. Per ESPN

The contract includes $20.5 million in guarantees and $40.5 million in "new" money, bringing his total over five years to $58.25 million, . He can make an additional $10 million in escalators.

Sanchez is now the seventh-highest paid NFL quarterback

  3. I'll amend the statement: you expect difference makers in 1-2, starters in 3. You don't always hit, but you need more hits than misses and we had far more misses than hits. Or are you saying you enjoyed our drafts?

Here are all our draft picks rd 1-3 since 2000 up until Chix. You tell me which year you really like. In 9 years we hit on more than one pick TWICE in 2001 and 2009.

    2000 1- Erik Flowers 2-Tavares Tillman, 3-Corey Moore

2001 1- Nate Clements 2- Aaron Schobel 3- Travis Henry

2002 1- Mike Williams 2- Josh Reed 2- Ryan Denney 3- Coy Wire

2003 1- Willis McGahee 2- Chris Kelsay 3- Angelo Crowell

2004 1- Lee Evans 1- JP Losman 3- Tim Anderson

    2005 2- Roscoe Parrish 3- Kevin Everett

    2006 1- Whitner 2- McCargo 3- Youboty

    2007 1- Lynch 2- Pos 3- Trent Edwards

    2008 1- McKelvin 2- Hardy 3- Ellis

    2009 1- Maybin 2- Wood 3- Byrd

  4. There are a bunch of names floating around for us at 10 and I keep wincing when they mention us going DL. I realized the reason we're all so gun-shy about drafting a DL early this year is our historical futility picking DL early. There are too many question marks for me to feel confident taking a DE. Upshaw- he looked terrible at the combine. Coples- has issues with effort and was a bit of a one year wonder. We're so used to missing on DL picks that everyone is scared to pick a guy early. We've generally done such a poor job in the draft and that's why we're the team wit the longest playoff drought in the NFL.

    DL drafted in the 1st

09- Maybin- Bust who picked up some stats with the Jets.

    06- McCargo- Terrible

00- Erik Flowers- Benched after 5 games in yr 2 and then cut.

    how about 2-3?

01- Schobel (2) The best of the bunch. Great player. Our ONE hit

01- Ron Edwards (3) Average, we didn't hold on to him

02- Ryan Denney (2) Average player. Had a couple of decent seasons.

03- Chris Kelsay (2) Stats are comparable to Denney's, but somehow scored a big contract and has stayed with the team.

04- Tim Anderson (3) 52 tackles in 5 years. Lasted 1 year in the NFL post-Bills.

08- Chris Ellis (3) Brought in to rush the passer, 1 sack in 3 seasons.

    10- Troup (2) ??

    10- Carrington (3) ??

I have reserved judgement on Troup and Carrington. When you draft someone in the top 3, you're looking for a difference-maker. We have hit on exactly 1 good pick out of 11 and secured 2 decent role players. That leaves us with 8 complete misses in the first 3 rounds. You build along the lines. We were able to turn our OL drafting around when we picked up Levitre and Wood in 09. I really hope we turn this around soon. I hope this year's draft is a lot closer to our '11 draft than '10 and we pick up at least 2 good DLmen.

  5. Maybe if he played DE. He has played LB every year of his career.

Including 4-3 SLB for the last 2 years after being a JLB in the 3-4.

We would sign him still I think. But as a SLB!!

    Barnett Sheppard Wimbley.

At least be knowledge about the players you think you want.

Here is the knowledge I be about the player I want. Also, the knowledge I be about the coaching system, you grammatical genius.

Wimbley came out of college weighing about 25lbs less than he does now, so they shifted him to LB, where he has gone on to bulk up. 6'4 260 is the prototypical size for a DE that Nix wants and he is a natural pass rusher who would no longer have to worry about ever having to drop in coverage. 4-3 linebackers are supposed to be smaller than 3-4 LBs because their job is not rushing the passer, but covering and run stuffing. Cowher has stated he wants smaller, fast LBs. Wimbley is a DE in our scheme, just like Merriman is a DE in our scheme. Keep your smug answers to yourself and don't interrupt when grown-ups are talking.

  6. "cool" to play here?

    what does that even mean.

It's pretty simple, not a place that gets made fun off being bass ackwards. When you have players making jokes about Buffalo (long list), reporters making jokes about Buffalo (Peyton to Buffalo:LOL), it gives the town an air of not being a good place to play, even if it's not true. Perception means a lot to people whether you credit that statement as accurate or not. Miami sucks, but the town is a vacation spot, so player would consider signing off of that alone. Buffalo needs to create a player-friendly culture. Not in easy workouts or anything, but being known as a good place to live and supportive of the players.

  7. Wow. I like SJ. Hope his recruiting pays off. I wonder if it's a pipe dream to also hope for VJ and Mario Williams.

That would be too good to believe. Imagine having those positions stored up, allowing us to focus on O line, linebacker and depth at the draft!

We could even draft Tannehill if we got WR and DE playmakers in FA.

I'll be happy, though, with just one big FA signing at WR or DE.

    It is.

  8. Sure, but it all starts with a new owner.

Unfortunately, that's a big part of it. Old-timers like Wilson don't appreciate the need to create an attractive atmosphere for players to come in to. The team facilities are not that great and the stadium really needs some work too. He is a bit too old to understand that players do sign to play in places with a bit more glitz that coddle them. He's used to the days of lunch-pail players who just come in to work to get a job done. Indianapolis is not really a much better city than Buffalo, but they have a sick stadium and that in itself makes them relevant even after their winning days. Mark Cuban really changed the culture when he bought his NBA team by installing a luxury locker room, having catered meals after games (I know the catering is ridiculous for an NFL team, I'm talking about the sentiment) and basically treating his players better than other places in the league. That in itself brings in FA signees. It's really not Wilson's fault. He's older than dirt and he is simply too disconnected from 20-30 year olds to understand what makes them happy.I really don't think he's even aware of the exasperation his fan base feels for him.

  9. The problem is: The Bills do not start 0-0. They start 0-4. They average more than 4 losses just in their own division in the last 10 years. If you sat through Billy Joe Hobert and Rob Johnson, you'd understand. I admire your optimism, but the Bills have killed mine.

Prove it and I'm right there with you. And tht whole unconditional thing is what got a whole bunch of people wealthy beyond belief. I'm chosing my own wealth.

Dude, someone needs to give you a hug or something. You should change your screen name to Eeyore.

  10. He's pretty much exactly what Nix said he wants in a DE. I would be so happy if we could pick him up. But PFt says "Wimbley would be a highly valued commodity around the NFL and can expect a first-year payment from his next team that dwarfs the $11 million Oakland would have paid him." I though Mario would be getting 13-14? How expensive is it going to be to sign a good DE?

  11. Locker room morale should be pretty solid heading into training camp. Taking care of your own is HUGE.

I totally agree with this. It has to have been difficult year in and out, knowing that by playing well, players were in essence playing themselves out of a locker room because the team wouldn't spend the $ to extend most players. A happy locker room has to be a major part of luring free agents. Not to mention improving the overall team play.

  12. We're actually keeping the people who produce for us? Is it just me, or does it seem surreal? I'm not being sarcastic either. Deep down, I was thinking we'd re-sign Stevie and most everyone else would walk. I think the FO is starting to change their losing culture!
