I have a problem with all the people criticizing Mike for his post.
1- He's earned the right to vent if only due to his years of posting on this board. Some of you may not appreciate seniority because you've been here all of 2-3 years, but he has been here for ages and has never been a doom and gloomer he should get a little respect.
2- Kneejerk reactions like "don't let the door hit you.." are worthless. Evaluate the statement and counter if you disagree.
3- He's not the only one feeling like this. More and more longtime fans are disgusted with the EFFORT of the team. Kelsay vocalized what the fans have been feeling for years: we invest more emotionally in the performance of the players than they do themselves. What happened to showing a work ethic and some pride in what you do and the community you represent. I was sickened by Mario's "I don't care what you think" comment because it reflects apathy towards his performance that is evident in the effort we see him play with on the field.
We're all fans. We'd all love to have the ability to hope this team can turn things around against the odds. Some are having a hard time finding that hope anymore and it's understandable after years of subpar performances. Moreover, the thing that has killed hope, as many have noted in this thread is NOT poor play due to a lack of talent. Hope is suffocated when great talent plays with no passion or effort. We have a VERY talented D-line. They are not performing up to their abilities and we see people giving up on plays. That's a kick in the nads to die-hard fans. I still hope we can turn things around, but I haven't seen any indication from a frustrated or pissed off group of defenders to indicate a turnaround is in the offing.

I completely understand you Mike. I've found myself similarly taking a bit of a step back from the Bills in the past few weeks. Like others I tend to DVR the games now rather than going out of my way to watch them live. I used to check this site multiple times a day, now I look in every other week. Be a fan, but don't lose sleep over the team. It's obvious the defense and DC aren't losing sleep over being this terrible and there is zero chance we make the playoffs this year. You don't go from a terrible team to a winning franchise overnight and we won't see a movie-type turnaround this year.

I believe the Bills lose directly as a result of Sullivan's actions. He might be some sort of warlock. Anyone ever thought of that?
Is anyone missing a pet? I believe there was a report of an unnatural dark cloud directly above Sully's house sometime Saturday.

We'll wind up with pick 3 or 4. Top 2 picks will be qbs and we'll be SOL again

I'm despondent. I feel like apologizing to everyone I've ever argued with on this board telling them we were headed in the right direction these past few years. I've never seen us look worse.
-
ya at least we took out decastro that was one of the few positive things to take away from the game
im sorry for the kid and its tough when young guys get hurt but we play the steelers every other year and they win pretty often vs us so anything that sets their franchise back is good with me
Disgusting

When Vince Young was in the game yesterday, I kept reminding myself, "this is the guy who singlehandedly willed his Univ of Texas team to a championship. This guy was the third overall pick in the draft, embarrassed the Bills when he was a Titan, went to multiple Pro Bowls, and had a bright future ahead of him. This is that guy." Man, he has fallen off.
That's EXACTLY what I kept doing. He's lost all of his mojo

Wow. You guys really like to attack don't you? I thought the interview slanted a bit negative and I outlined my reasoning and then asked if you thought I was off base and all of a sudden I am super sensitive and looking for negative things to say? For the record, Tim Graham is my favorite Buffalo sportswriter. I read all of his stuff and I agree he is objective and a very good writer. If you go back in the timeline you'd see that I regularly sided with Tim when he used to post here on the board. The ONLY thing about my post I would change is the title, which states the article was negative. I should have put a question mark at the end.

Very interesting interview on PFT live. However, I was surprised with the seemingly negative tone of Tim Graham's comments. I may be off base, but he seemed to poo poo the positive spin Florio was trying to put on the Bills offseason. I only noticed because it's the first time I've ever heard a "home town" reporter speaking less positively about his team than Florio. Struck me as out of character for Tim. What do you guys think?
Why did I say he was "negative?"
1- Florio- Great offseason, fans must be excited.
Graham- Bills have a bad track record, people aren't as excited as you think
2- Florio- New QB coach has people excited about Fitz's potential.
Graham- New stuff never worked for old boxers, so Fitz probably won't get much better.
3- Florio- Who's gonna be #2?
Graham- TJ drops balls and can't go over the middle.

Sure, but the Bills had a need for a TE as well. The question was do you take a chance on the top rated TE in the draft, one that was at one point projected a top 10 pick but had an injury concern OR on a long shot DT that you are hoping can fill a need at DT because of a switch to the 3-4. The Troup pick was very similar to the Hardy pick in that it seemed the player was picked to "fill the need" vs. an overall evaluation of talent.
Have you ever followed the Bills? They don't value the tight end position at all. If they hadn't stumbled upon Chandler, we wouldn't have gone out and picked up a good FA or drafted one before the 4th round.
-
I am a bit confused about why a lot of people here seem so focused on the TE position?
I say this because we have the unique advantage of having 2 excellent RBs who have great hands and we are often in 5 wide sets. The very nature of our offense uses the TE position rather sparingly, though Chandler did a great job maximizing his opportunities last year. The obvious response is "it gives us a unique wrinkle" or "so and so team uses them effectively", but I don't see either as particularly persuasive arguments, a the same could be said for any position on the team. It would be great to have better depth at every position, so why is everyone so intent on TE?

Just another idea of the media drumming up a story based solely upon their own beliefs and without any evidence. The Bills have stated Young was brought in only as a backup and we don't have a cagey FO or HC; they mean what they say. No reason to even pay attention to it.
-
Hairston starts the season.
1- Chan defers to experience
2- Hairston did a decent job last year thrust into a starting role with no offseason prep. I expect him to make a big jump this year.
-
STARTING QB is still weak.
This friggin' guy again
I've yet to read a single post by this troll that doesn't excoriate the FO or Fitz.
-
Skip Bayless is probably the biggest moron in a sports media teeming with morons.
I have no idea how he has a job in sports media, it's ridiculous.
-
+1. It's never meaningless if it's well thought out!
-
Please don't feed this troll by engaging with it. Its never-ending negativity only serves as evidence of how miserable a troll it must be. Just let it whine into the ether of the internet. Maybe if we stop feeding it, it will go away.

ESPN jumped the shark a long time ago. Berman sounds like if not for him the NFL wouldn't exist. He needs to be put out to pasture. Mortensen looks pathetic trying to keep up with Schefter. The worst by far is Sal Palontonio.
ESPN looks like a panel of fossils. No interesting analysis and terrible production value. No reason to ever watch that channel

Buddy's answers at the presser for those who asked:
Asper - Brought in to be a backup G/C
Potter - Kickoff specialist. Buddy wants someone who can kick the ball through the goalpost consistently to guarantee less wear and tear on our coverage guys and to ensure solid field position

Gibran Hamdan...
I miss the Chroise

We got a lot of bodies. The overall character is outstanding. The Bills did their homework on that front. An eagle scout for christmas sake. But with ten picks and a high position in each round, we got maybe one starter on opening day, and maybe two by the end of the year. No one who jumps out as a HOF type. Solid ST depth and a crowded Practice Squad. I know we had holes, but with that type of ammo I would have expected a more immediate impact on the starting lineup recent FA acquisitions factored in. SO I think that while we got talent up and down the roster, I do not see a great step forward. I like what hte Bengals did, great value and probably two to three starters to a Playoff team. The steelers are retooled. New England did well to address immediate holes and there weren't many. So I guess I feel we wasted the opportunity accelerate the rebuilding process. This draft has a traditional feel to it like many in the past where we will see mid and late rounders get replaced by next years mid and late rounders. So while I commend OBD for not taking a step back, I am not sure we moved up in the overall hierarchy. I would love to have seen a more judicious use of picks, some movement and the addition of true starters this year. Glenn may not start, Gilmore will struggle, all DB's do while they learn. Our WR is a huge question mark and probably a project. I guess I expected a bigger leap.
I know this will get ripped and I will get the wait three years response, but I am tired of waiting. I attended games at the Rockpile when I was in grade school so I have been drinking the Kool aid my whole life. I really thought that we would walk away from this weekend with more starters, on day 1 2012.
So you wasted your 47th post on this schlock?
-
Still think that Nix takes BPA? We had four clear needs and picked one player at each of them. I still contend there is really no such thing as BPA.
The guy looks like a killer. No fourth rounder would be expected to start. We need a back-up on the outside and the guy seems to have a lot of talent. I still like this draft a lot.
It's called looking at your board laterally. He called WR in 3rd rd because he knew who he was targeting. If Bradham were gone, we could have picked another position. Don't read into things.

I'm very happy

I'm incredibly confused. I'd be confused if we just picked him, but I'm floored that we traded up to pick him?
I can't do this anymore

Here's the original Buffalo News article: http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121023/SPORTS/121029722/1004
And before you all correct me and say that he is just saying he doesn't listen to critics, they gave him a chance to rephrase and he chose not to. He got defensive about a game in which he contributed a total of two tackles and mouthed off. At least Kelsay had the right response in showing he was upset about his performance and not at the reporter for questioning him.
