  1. On that note, Aaron Williams better play well else the twitter mafia will be all over him. See the frequency of his twits errr.... tweets

Nah, he is actually entertaining. He and Brad Smith were needling each other back and forth over where they went to college. That kind of stuff is fun. I follow a bunch of the guys and it's actually cool to see that the team seems to genuinely like each other.

  2. Never understood why Donte gets so much hate on this board. I mean, he had absolutely no control over the fact the Bills reached for him at the 8 spot. None. It's just funny to me because if the Bills had taken him in Round 2, everyone would probably love him here. He plays hard. Speaks his mind. And is a solid starting safety in the NFL. Is he spectacular? Nope. But it's not his fault he's not Ed Reed. Dude plays his heart out every Sunday -- this despite the fact he has been stuck on a team that has been horrible for his entire career.

Blame the regime that picked him so high, not the player.

It's just funny that people get so heated over him. Like this post! I'm not even a huge Donte fan yet I'm taking the time to post about it. It's just a weird psychological thing for Bills fans (or maybe it's not unique to Buffalo and rather it's just a sports thing). I'm always fascinated by it.

I've been saying the same thing for years. Donte is one of the best tackling safeties in the league. I wish he were better in coverage, but he is solid at the point of attack. That said, he needs to grow up asap, cause his mouth gets him into trouble a lot. I would be very happy re-signing him at around $4M.

  3. Carey is due about $5M this year. If they cut him I think we could pick him up for around 3-3.5M. Clabo signed a 5 yr contract for 25, he's better and younger, so I don't think it's unrealistic to think we could get him on the lower side of my estimate. They went after Clabo, so you know we're interested in the position. That said, Pears is only making 640k this year and if they only see it as a slight upgrade in Carey, I think they don't pull the trigger.

  4. I'm sorry, but this is only a need because we created it. I'm not saying we should have paid poz, but this doesn't really jump us up that much from last year. Also, this guy is just as injury prone and only became available after he was cut late and the market dried up. It was between us and the Lions and they just backed out.

Sorry, but this doesn't prove much to me on behalf of the front office. This was a gift and we don't know how much we paid either.

Btw, we run a 3-4, which requires a ton of linebackers. We are now just back to par plus a draft pick. We weren't even close to capacity last season.

I'm not trying to be negative with this, just looking at the facts and what can give me hope to be better than 4-12. We have no depth at linebacker, no pass rusher, subpar safeties, and still no RT.

For not trying you are succeeding! We have DL players like Troupe/Carrington, LBs like Moats who have just finished their first year and could develop into solid starters. We don't know what we have in Batten yet, but there's no reason to write him off. We drafted 2 rookie ILBs and I expect Kelvin Sheppard to start; we upgraded our veteran ILB position with Barnett over Pos, Merriman should finally be healthy, we drafted the best DL player in the draft, picked up a big physical rookie CB and a young SS. Oh and we picked up a developmental guy who is the largest human in the NFL who has great athleticism. That's just on D. We could win 7+ games this year.

  5. If the point is being made that the Bills drafted 3 senior Bowl players because they coached them, I am not sure that number is extraordinary. I'm guessing that there were around 100 players in the Senior Bowl. IF the majority of them got drafted, that would mean most teams probably drafted 2 or 3 of them.

Someone asked a question. I knew the answer and gave it to them. So there was no point to the post, much in the same way there was little point to your judgment of it.

  6. As I mentioned when you raised this before, Joe Cribbs or Robert James…also:

    Billy Atkins

    Bobby Smith

Keith Lincoln (yes he was on the '67 and '68 Bills)

    John Armstrong

    Sherman Cocroft

    Mickey Sutton

    Henry Jones

    Travis Henry

    Shaud Williams

    Donte Whitner

The best players to ever wear number 20 for the Bills were probably Robert James (1969-1974, 3 Pro Bowls and 2 First Team All Pro), Henry Jones (1991-2000, 1 Pro Bowl, 1 First Team All Pro), and Joe Cribbs (1980-1985, 3 Pro Bowls).

You'll get a lot of respect from Old-Timers if you wear Robert James. His career was cut short by a knee injury back in the day when knee injuries typically ended careers (pre-arthroscopic surgery days).

Henry Jones was a cog in the Super Bowl teams and Joe Cribbs was a very underrated player.

Presumably you know all about Travis Henry…he leads the rest of this undistinguished field who would all make pretty funny gag jerseys.

I didn't remember raising that point before. Thanks though. I appreciate it!

  7. I only post this in this section necause Nix has indicated the Donte will be gone soon and I suppose several people here could be in the same situation.

2 years ago I was faced with the prospect of buying an authentic throwback jersey. Like a moron I decided to get a new young player I could support and I had to choose between Lynch and Whitner. Great options right? So now I'm stuck with a Whitner jersey. I'm looking for someplace to buy a new nameplate. I live in the DC area though so I probably need to get one online. Any ideas?
