  1. The biggest reason, though, has been the play of the first-team offense in the preseason. Everything you mentioned would have been forgiven had they looked even close to competent.

I understand that. I truly do. Offense, especially the offensive line, is the one group that benefits most from time together. Missing OTAs and mini-camps adversely affected more than just UDFAs as most journalists would have you believe. The fact is, in getting larger up front, we essentially assured that only 2 players on the O-line would be returning to their old positions-Bell and Levitre. Urbik and Rhinehart haven't had a full offseason with the team, as they were mid-season acquisitions. The O-line is BOUND to look terrible this early in the year for that fact alone. Bell's play has been poor and that has created even more instability. You think this is the same old bad team? Look at the depth chart from 09. The year before Nix as GM and Chan as HC. I put stars next to the players currently starting for us at the same position.

    QB- Trent Edwards, Fitz, Hamdan

RB- Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson, Dominick Rhodes

WR- Evans, TO, Josh Reed, Parrish

    LT- *Bell, Chambers

    LG- *Rookie Levitre

    C- Geoff Hangartner

RG- Rookie Wood (went on IR)

    RT- Langston Walker, Butler

    TE- Derek Fine, Nelson, Schouman

    DE- Denney, Kelsay,

    DE- Schobel,

    DT- Stroud, Johnson

    DT- *Williams, McCargo

    ILB- Pos, Thomas, Buggs

    OLB- Ellison, Corto, Bowen

    OLB- Mitchell, Palmer, Nic Harris

    CB- *McGee, Harris,

    CB- *McKelvin, Youboty

    CB- *Florence, Langster

    SS- Whitner, Wilson

    FS- Ko Simpson, Bryan Scott

We have exactly 2 player on offense returning at their position as opposed to TWO years ago and that may become ZERO if Levitre replaces Bell at LT.

On D we have 4 people returning at their positions. Those 4 are playing, solid football.

All I'm saying is. PLEASE, give the FO the benefit of the doubt. There have been a LOT of changes and I think they're almost all for the best.

  2. Prediction:

The Bills look sloppy and everyone freaks out.

Chan chuckles to himself that things never really change.

By week one half of the people on this board can't even remember that this game took place.

    Continued...

1- Every time Pos makes a tackle, half the people on this board will whine that someone else paid him 7M a year to leave us. The other half will laugh about how it happened "10-15 yards down the field."

2- The offense will struggle and people will blame it all on the o-line, not impatient running or bad timing in route running.

3- People will talk about who will be starting at QB by X week after Fitz throws a single bad pass.

4- People will complain we didn't sign so and so, who we may have offered a boatload of money and just didn't want to play here anyway.

  3. ive yet to see clear, hardcore evidence this franchise is trying to build a winning team. every few years its the same crap, team sucks, cant win, soo....hey lets get new uniforms, hey team sucks again, lets get new throwbacks to get the fans attention again, hey team sucks again big time, lets go out and sign T.O. to sell tickets and lets get white throwbacks and wear them twice, hey what do you know team sucks again....lets not draft for need lets draft the sexy player of the draft in spiller, ignoring the glaring needs of the team.....oh no, spiller sucks and team still sucks, hmmm...lets install a new field change the colors a little and get new uniforms cause sales took a huge hit....well teams gonna suck in 2011, so lets see what next year brings....thats TBD.

Did you watch the draft. Please spare me your ignorance. When he took over Buddy laid out his plan and he hasn't deviated from it.

1- He said we would build through the draft. That we wouldn't be a team likely to trade around our draft picks, but would always look to acquire more.

2- He said he's not looking to make big free-agent splashes and prefers to re-sign productive players.

3- He said the process would most likely take about 3 years and he understood that would frustrate people.

Last year they drafted for offense and those guys have yet to step up, but there's nothing that we can do about that. This year's draft was clearly predicated no fixing the defense and they have done that. The worst thing a franchise can do is hang on to and overpay players who has passed the prime of their careers, or never produced. We got rid of Whitner, Maybin and Evans this year because they were unlikely to surprise anyone with a productive year. I don't understand how 2 months ago people were saying we should get what we could for Lee, then turned around and acted like the sky was falling when we did.

  4. Straight from the article:

"Regardless of anything else, I’m sorry to Merriman for causing him unnecessary grief, forcing major media outlets to investigate him further and causing anyone to question his character due to an inaccurate report. He’s worked hard to get ready for this season and deserves the unwavering support of all Bills fans....

For what it’s worth, I also apologize to the Buffalo fans....

Lastly and most importantly to me, I want to apologize to media members and some Bills players themselves that I know were let down."

They were near the bottom of the article and I count 3 apologies in there.

Anything he writes after this qualifier is not an apology:

"However, before going any further if for no other reason than my sanity—– what I published was NOT completely untrue. Though my erroneous coining of the word “steroids” is emphatically wrong, this was more than just the “routine” border incident most of us have experienced ourselves."

He's saying, yeah I lied and said steroids, but I wasn't really lying. He is apologizing so people will stop berating him on twitter (which they have not) and to try and salvage his "reputation" (which is non=existent). After all the swagger and bravado he was exhibiting on twitter after the article ran I'm not buying this. He obviously didn't realize he was going to catch so much hatred over writing this garbage, got flustered by it all and is hastily trying to get out of the doghouse. If you go to Chan's video interview on the official website, the one where he talks about Torbor to IR, Moran asks him a question and Gailey responds "we don't get to talk about that." Moran, immediately self-conscious for no reason asks "I don't get to talk about it?" and Gailey looks at him like he's growing a second head cause the response was so out of left field.

Eh, or maybe you're right. I don't know the guy, so I don't really feel the need to forgive him because I don't care about him as a person. I think he's slimy and disgusting and I'm not feeling bad for the crap he's taken or forgiving him just cause he asks for forgiveness after writing an article that had the potential to mess up someone's career and really screw the team.

  5. Some people might bash him.....I commend him for writing this when a lot of hack journalists would just wait and hope the thing would blow over.....

This actually GIVES him some credibility in my eyes.....I am a big fan of character

Nowhere in that rambling, incoherent schlock, did I actually see an apology. All I read was a person standing on a soapbox and pretending to be magnanimous to all his haters by giving a half-assed justification for writing what he wrote. Hack writer, scumbag person (read his twitter post stating "if I'm lying may my eight-year-old daughter get hit by a car") and all-around loser.

  6. I posted the link merely because it substantiates (albeit weakly) what I am saying, and the "starting to break," was intended to be taken as the beginning of sites reporting it, not as sufficient proof by itself.

Dude we get it, you think you're a very special person. "I am very important, but I have so much integrity I can't really reveal everything that I know. However, I will still let you know that I know something so you can all see how important I am."

How about this: either state your little bit of info or shut up. I'm tired o everyone tooting their own horns around here

  7. On that note, Aaron Williams better play well else the twitter mafia will be all over him. See the frequency of his twits errr.... tweets

Nah, he is actually entertaining. He and Brad Smith were needling each other back and forth over where they went to college. That kind of stuff is fun. I follow a bunch of the guys and it's actually cool to see that the team seems to genuinely like each other.

  8. Never understood why Donte gets so much hate on this board. I mean, he had absolutely no control over the fact the Bills reached for him at the 8 spot. None. It's just funny to me because if the Bills had taken him in Round 2, everyone would probably love him here. He plays hard. Speaks his mind. And is a solid starting safety in the NFL. Is he spectacular? Nope. But it's not his fault he's not Ed Reed. Dude plays his heart out every Sunday -- this despite the fact he has been stuck on a team that has been horrible for his entire career.

Blame the regime that picked him so high, not the player.

It's just funny that people get so heated over him. Like this post! I'm not even a huge Donte fan yet I'm taking the time to post about it. It's just a weird psychological thing for Bills fans (or maybe it's not unique to Buffalo and rather it's just a sports thing). I'm always fascinated by it.

I've been saying the same thing for years. Donte is one of the best tackling safeties in the league. I wish he were better in coverage, but he is solid at the point of attack. That said, he needs to grow up asap, cause his mouth gets him into trouble a lot. I would be very happy re-signing him at around $4M.

  9. Carey is due about $5M this year. If they cut him I think we could pick him up for around 3-3.5M. Clabo signed a 5 yr contract for 25, he's better and younger, so I don't think it's unrealistic to think we could get him on the lower side of my estimate. They went after Clabo, so you know we're interested in the position. That said, Pears is only making 640k this year and if they only see it as a slight upgrade in Carey, I think they don't pull the trigger.

  10. I'm sorry, but this is only a need because we created it. I'm not saying we should have paid poz, but this doesn't really jump us up that much from last year. Also, this guy is just as injury prone and only became available after he was cut late and the market dried up. It was between us and the Lions and they just backed out.

Sorry, but this doesn't prove much to me on behalf of the front office. This was a gift and we don't know how much we paid either.

Btw, we run a 3-4, which requires a ton of linebackers. We are now just back to par plus a draft pick. We weren't even close to capacity last season.

I'm not trying to be negative with this, just looking at the facts and what can give me hope to be better than 4-12. We have no depth at linebacker, no pass rusher, subpar safeties, and still no RT.

For not trying you are succeeding! We have DL players like Troupe/Carrington, LBs like Moats who have just finished their first year and could develop into solid starters. We don't know what we have in Batten yet, but there's no reason to write him off. We drafted 2 rookie ILBs and I expect Kelvin Sheppard to start; we upgraded our veteran ILB position with Barnett over Pos, Merriman should finally be healthy, we drafted the best DL player in the draft, picked up a big physical rookie CB and a young SS. Oh and we picked up a developmental guy who is the largest human in the NFL who has great athleticism. That's just on D. We could win 7+ games this year.
