  1. In my opinion the first game didn't prove that the redskins were beter than us ... it just proved they tried to win the game more than we did. In my opinion the second game didn't prove we could beat (or even play on the same field) the colts ... it just proved we tried to win the game more than they did. In my opinion the colts/packers game said nothing about the "skill level" of either team ... it just showed which team wanted a preseason win more than the other.
  2. I wouldn't go as far as declaring that Chan is the right coach for the Bills into the future ... I hated the hire when he was hired, but after seeing him in action I've decided he is the right guy for this team right now. I believe he can change the culture the team had developed over the last ten years or so, I believe he will be a good teacher to the influx of rookies we're going to need to rebuild the team, and I believe he'll be a more animated head coach providing "sound bites" for the media. However, sometimes a coach is good taking a bad team and making them "respectable" but can never seem to get over the hump and make qa respectable team a great team. A prime example is Jerry Glanvile, he was great at taking a bottom feeder and making them competative, but for some reason his teams never got to the dominating stage. Some coaches are great at building a team from the ground up to league leaders ... Levy and Parcells come to mind ... some are good at maintaining the status quo ... Wade Phillips comes to mind ... some just stink ... Juron comes to mind. My point is ... I think Chan is the right guy for the here and now ... and I'm excited to see if he can be the guy for the future, but I have a feeling (that I haven't had in quite a long time) that we are starting on a fun chapter in the Bills story.
  3. because the telecast is beamed from a satilite silly .... didn't you watch that superman movie where he flies around the world faster and faster until he reverses time??? Same concept with a satilite .... they just speed it up until yesterday is today and today is tomorrow ... or is it tomorrow is yesterday .... or ... forget it haven't you ever heard of the international date line silly .... they just position the satilite where tomorrow is today then Sunday will be Saturday then they can broadcast an event live before it's even been played ..... wait a minute ... that can't be right Maybe somebody just read the TV listing wrong.
  4. In another thread I posted my opinion about "motivations" different teams have depending on the situation of a particular preseason game. IMHO ... Buffalo is not as bad as they looked the 1st game, nor is Washington as good as they looked. Buffalo is not as good as they looked in the second preseason game nor is Indy as bad as they looked. It is also my opinion that both Washington and the Bills are low to mid level teams overall talent wise, and will end the season with appropriate records, Indy is an upper level team and will end the season with their usual double digit wins.
  5. If I were the type of man to say "I told you so", now would be the time I'd be saying "I told you so" ... but since I'm not that type of guy I won't say "I told you so". LOL out loud
  6. No offense taken .... and I am a Bills fan after all .... so of course I'm talking myself into optimism ... that's what I've done at this point of the season for the majority of the seasons since the 60's. Old habits are hard to break
  7. Actually .... our 1st team O-line never took the field. Our 1st and 2nd (or 1st and 3rd depending on how you rank them) running backs were out after the first series. I'm not even sure we HAVE a first string set of wide recievers yet. but that's not my point .... what I saw was a lack of intensity in game planning, coaching, and playing for the Bills, and just the oppisite for the deadskins. I don't have the knowledge or insight to know if the reason was because we suck so darn bad across the team ... or that each team was playing with seperate "motivations". and my follow-on point was that as far as I can see the Colts "motivation" should more closely align to what I suspect we were playing with last week .... and our "motivation" should be similar to what I think Washington's was (we're out to make a statement ... Colts are out to just survive the game) .... This isn't a prediction ... just a gut feeling
  8. I rewatched the redskins game last night (I know I'm a glutton for punishment) with as much of an objective eye as I could muster. While I agree we pretty much sucked, I wanted to try and figure out why we were at such a level of suckatude. While I agree we have "talent problems" in a number of areas .... and we have "new philosophy issues" on both sides of the ball ... and even as early as the first series we had "injury issues" but something about the game just didn't sit right with me, so I had to take another look after my emotions settled down .... were we really as bad as we looked???? Was Washington really as good as they looked????? After watching the game the second time I've come to the conclusion that the Bills approached the game just like a glorified practice against different colored uniforms ... they were looking to block a little bit ... run a little bit .... throw a little bit ... and catch a little bit while they evaluated players/gameplans/situations/etc. The deadskins looked like they were playing a "statement game" it seemed they were throwing more varied blitz packages more often .... hitting a little harder ... running a little faster. I really can't put my finger on exactly what it was .... it just seemed we were going through a "walk through" while they were playing with playoff type of emotion. IMHO .... Chan is pi$$ed and the players are (or should be) embarressed about last week ... I think the Bills come out tonight with THEIR "statement game". The Colts on the other hand should be more concerned with keeping their starters healthy .... Dare I say it???? ........ I'm looking for a BIG night from our Bills .... there I've said it (but it's still only preseason)
  9. I agree .... just because this new fangled inter web thinggy allows one to be a jerk doen't mean one should be a jerk.
  10. I don't think different opinions are the problem with the board ... as a matter of fact over the years I've learned quit a bit about the Bills (and football in general) by considering the viewpoints of people with different opinions and following their discussions. For example It could be my opinion that player X will be a superstar. poster #2 could think player X doesn't even have the skills to even make the team. I don't think anybody has a problem discussing the atributes or stats of the player and how they do or do not fit in with what the team is trying to do. The problem is when poster #1 say "gee I sure like player X because ______ ". And poster #2 only adds "Hey jerk-off you're an idiot and don't know squat about football". IMHO .... As far as the "+" and "-" suggestion, the board would become useless if I post "gee I sure like player X because ______ ". and every resulting post just said ... yep ... I agree ... right on
  11. I think that they are done WITH the Washington game .... does that count???
  12. Let's think about this a second .... our QBs pretty much stink ... at very best we have two that stink, and two that are question marks. Now why on Gods green earth would another team ... no matter how desperate ... trade us for one of our cast offs????
  13. I admit that preseason game is the extent of my knowledge of Nelson .... but He looked like everything I had hoped Hardy would be. I could not only see him make the team but I could see him contribute this year.
  14. IMHO I think it's a combination of all 6. In light of full disclosure I was a big Trent fan ... still am a fan but I'm losing the faith. My fears are that item C. may have lasting effects throughout his career (whether it's 3 more preseason games, or 20 more years) and item D. needs to be corrected by Trent himself .... but the combination of items B. and F. very well may make that impossible. Bottom line is ... we can put up with bad QB play caused by the lack of surrounding talent ... because we know that can be fixed eventually. But we can not put up with a physically impared "dizzy" self doubting guy behind center because failure will only feed those short commings.
  15. Maybe there is no "I" in team ..... but there IS "ME"
  16. I think it all boils down to what does the team need to practice more .... Fourth and short to accomplish a possible game changing play or A punt We can all rest assured that when "crunch time" comes Mooreman will be able to take the field with full confidance that he's seen this situation in preseason.
  17. No you're not .... you're a racist
  18. I'm an Itailian-American and I hate the Dolphins ...... no connection .... I just hate the dolphins
  19. If the league was constrained to one year contracts then the market would determine if he deserves one ... in a league of multi year contracts .... only the team and his agent can argue if the player deserves it or not. and I guess that is my point ..... exactly what does a UDFA contract "pay for" as far as player performance .... that would be the determining factor in if the existing contract was out of scope or not.
  20. I've been avoiding this thread because just the thought of millionaire players trying to squeeze more millions out of billionaire owners depressed me .... but I'm wasting time at work so I thought I'd give it a read, which has started me thinking (always a bad thing). What exactly are the contracts for the football players for anyway? We can safely say the contract for a first round draft pick is a contract for that player to contribute to the team. But isn't the contract for a .... oh say .... a seveenth round draft pick really a contract to eventually work his way into the line up. And a contract given to an UDFA only a contract to try and make the team. Lets take my point to the extreme for discussion purposes .... A UDFA signs with team "A" and no one expects him to be more than "camp fodder". The UDFA not only makes the team but because of his stellar play ends up as the starter. At the end of the season he is statistically the best player in the league at his position. Could it then be said that the original contract that he signed is now considered "out of scope" and he therefore deserves a new big buck contract?
  21. The question I wonder about is ... Did D.J.'s teams consist of a bunch of bad players who Dick got to "overachive" ... or was there talent there somewhere that looked "grossly inept, misguided, incompetent, directionless and just plain bland" because they had no direction, organization or workable game plans. My hopes as a Bills fan is that we do have some "hidden" talent in the likes of Mcargo, Edwards, Maybin, Hardy etc etc etc and they will begin to shine from this season onward. Then again I did say I was a Bills fan so I'm totally prepared if everybody does in fact stink .... such is the life
  22. It sort of kinda does matter when the team is to the point it can not afford to (or is unwilling to) give those UDFA's a lucrative contract because the 1st and second round dratees are sitting on the bench collecting their dough while the UDFA is playing every down, and three or four years later, the now experianced underpaid UDFA leaves for greener pastures. Case in point do you think Jason Peters would still be here if his initial contract was for Mike Williams dough?
  23. I agree with what you have to say, with the exception of the middle part. IMHO this forum has gone through an evolution from it's D&C days to now. As you say there were always (and always will be) "good guys" and "bad guys". For every opionion there will ALWAYS be people who disagree, and a certian percentage of those people will be from the "bad guy" camp and express themself in a totally disrespectful often offensive way. Where the problem lies is that we used to be a forum of mostly "good guys" that took the "bad guy" comments with a grain of salt often times seeing humor in the vitrol. Today it seems the "bad guys" are far out numbering the "good guys" to the point that an opinion isn't discussed near as much as it's ridiculed even to the point of personal attacks. All of the good guys have ALWAYS belonged here, they are what made TBD the best of the Bills forums, but since the "bad guys" are starting to outnumber the "good guys" maybe it is time they left. The sad thing is, once they leave, this site becomes a bunch of self importent bores calling each other an idiot and correcting each others grammar and spelling. This response isn't just about Lori, or Tim .... in my years here I've seen many many people run off by the "bad guys" ... to borrow a phrase from another old timer .... all of this "poster bashing" just makes me kind of ... well ... nervous
  24. Remember ... just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!!!
