  1. or we could just re-sign crowell and stop creating holes. but i'm sure that thought has yet to penetrate the concrete between your ears.
  2. Good post. Unfortunately, too many people look at the draft and declare, "If we do not draft position X, the draft is a failure," or "if we do draft position Y, we're going to go 4-12" instead of looking at the talent we did acquire.
  3. I'm sorry that your Bills myopia prevents you from being able to distinguish the difference between the way the Bills were run for 5 years under TD and the way they have been run for the past 2 years. Lumping them all together is a simple minded answer.
  4. We have a gaping hole at #2 WR, and you consider a WR a "luxury item"?
  5. And because 1 or 2 teams find gems in the late rounds, that means everyone can and you shouldnt spend any high picks on that position.
  6. No one said it must. But the Bills may have WRs rated higher than the "experts" do, and there might not be much to choose from when our 2nd round pick comes around. Picking someone at #11 when the dumbass "experts" say they shouldnt go until 17-18 isnt a "reach"
  7. Because it would force the other team to NOT play 9 in the box and might actually give Marshawn some room to run? It might also give another weapon to our young developing QB, who sorely needs them.
  8. Or you just keep Crowell and instead of walking on a treadmill, you fill another position where you need players.
  9. No one here is saying the DL is unimportant. Its very important, which is why the Bills brought in 2 new DTs this offseason. I am arguing the premise that the only way to be successful if to draft DTs early, and the premise that drafting a WR this draft will somehow guarantee the bills will go 4-12. And his "statistical analysis" is so full of holes its laughable.
  10. i like that draft fairly well. It would allow us to put greer at nickelback, where he's better suited. Then we get our WR, TE, and some defensive help. Later rounds can be used to grab some OL depth.
  11. AKC tends to ignore facts that refute his nonsensical point.
  12. just running some simple numbers from your studies shows me that when it comes to DL, the teams you listed have an average of 23% of resources, thay also carry a standard deviation of 9%. Thats a fairly high deviation and does nothing to support your argument. As for WRs, they have an average of 14% with a deviation of 5%. Notice how the bills easily fall within 1 S.D. of your "good drafting" teams. Thsi simply shows that its not what position you draft, its the fact that you need to draft good players. And again, this argument is worthless with no control group (the rest of the league, and league averages) to compare it to.
  13. As the above few posters have said, until you compare the top teams to the rest of the league, your "analysis" carries no weight at all. Whats really amusing is how you insist that no WRs in this draft will be good. And, for the record, the Bills dont need to draft a WR at #11. We could go CB at 11 and grab a WR in round 2. The point is, if we draft a WR at #11, we are NOT doomed to go 4-12, and it isnt the end of the world. It will be an upgrade to the offense.
  14. Remember that Chris Kelsay is overpaid, even though Antwan Odom put up the same numbers as kelsay and received the same contract.
  15. so, you admit that your analysis is basically worthless, because you have no control to compare it to. Without the league average, and the tendencies of the rest of the teams, there is no definitive conclusion that can be reached. Anyone that has done any statistical work will agree.
  16. thank you for proving the point that its not the position you draft, but whether or not the player is a quality player. If you draft good, regardless of what position you draft, you are going to be a good team.
  17. Show the numbers for the entire league. Show league averages. Because the super bowl winning teams %'s means nothing if they are statistically similar to the league average or to some of the bottom teams.
  18. While it would be nice to pick up a DE, here are some thing to consider: 1. we havent upgraded a horrendous offense, but have aded 3 solid players on the defensive front 7 2. Stroud can go a long way helping McCargo and helping free up our DEs 3. In 2006, our DEs alone racked up 26.5 sacks. They can still do it.
  19. No matter what you say, you're still cherry picking data and massaging the numbers to make your point on something that is impossible to prove as statistically valid.
  20. Yawn. Another drawn out post thats full of bluster but ultimately shows nothing. Interesting that you choose to lump "super bowl teams" into 1 category without breaking down how each team does it. I'm wondering where Indy fits into all of this, because their 1st round picks since 2001 have been : WR-DE-TE-D-CB-RB-WR. Doesnt exactly fit into your little percentages now does it. They have a 2:1 WR:DL ratio, so by your standards, they should be going 4-12 every season. Also, i'm interested to see if you included their 2nd round pick of larry tripplett in your little "study." Becuase you are quite fond of trashing tripplett's horrible play when he was on the Bills. And then there's pittsburgh, who has spent 9 of their last 18 1st and 2nd round picks on WRs and DBs. In that same span, they've spent all of 2 picks on the DL. And finally, you;ve yet to explain how the Buffalo Bills, who have drafted 1 WR (at #13) in round 1 since 1996, are the equivalent of the detroit lions, who have drafted 4 WRs with top-10 picks in the last 5 years. EDIT: with regards to the bills, going back to 2001, we have spent 1st and 2nd rounders on WR Lee Evans, WR Josh Reed, and WR Roscoe Parrish. In that same span, we have drafted DE Aaron Schobel, DE Ryan Denney, DE Chris Kelsay, and DT John McCargo. So, i ask, how exactly have the Bills spent a larger portion of top picks on WR than DL when we have drafted more DL in the same timespan?
  21. Wow. how come you havent mentioned this before? "CBs and the Cover-2" is quickly turning into pyrite gal's 2008's version of last year's "Rookies are too stupid top play from day 1" mindless, repeated rant.
  22. green bay got almost zero production from its 2007 draft. James Jones was the only player that did anything of note consistently, and deshawn wynn was a couple of decent games. And as for the giants, they got timely production from their rookies, NOT consistent year long production. Everyone is all over kevin boss, because he has a great catch and run in the super bowl. It was 1 of 4 post season catches for him in 4 games. Again, it was timely contributions, NOT consistent contributions.
  23. due to extreme owner inactivity, and lack of enough time until the real draft, the 2008 mock draft has been suspended at the completion of round 2. Thanks goes to the few owners that did participate, and to those owners that provided a great assistance to me in running the draft.
  24. newengland* selects Cliff Avril, DE
