  1. You're right, it looks like it has an 81% on RT, and over 60+ reviewers chiming in...that makes me feel a lot better about the film. We'll have to compare notes after we've seen it, cause it'll be interesting for sure. I see that FAssbender was in Inglorious Basterds and Xmen First Class, but for some reason I'm having a hard time envisioning his performances...looking forward to seeing his portrayal here! I really wanted to like T3, but when all was said and done I was disappointed by it. The special effects were excellent, but the film needed better editing. It went on and on and got so drawn out that I really had a hard time feeling engaged by it. I did enjoy the premise, and at times I was right there geeking out to it, but just lost me in the end. And honestly, I've had enough of Shia. I'm just tired of the kid, and I fail to see any range whatsoever to his acting. The guy from Eagle Eye, to Transformers, to the one whre he was on house arrest with the crazy neighbor...it's the same character in all three. I didn't like him in the last Indiana Jones film either, and quite frankly I really wish people would lose their infatuation with him entirely lol. But yeah, I've learned to have complete trust and faith in J.J. So far I've loved everything he's done and I can't wait to see more - particularly Star Trek 2! I'm actually looking forward to revisiting one of his more controversial films - Cloverfield - because, as I've mentioned before on here, I consider it one of the top Ten best home theater experiences of my life. I won't be able to crank the bass now like I could before when I was in a house instead of an apartment, but this film on a projector (or large flat screen) with a proper sound system is a great ride, IMO
  2. Exactly, they have music that sort of transcends the radio and enters into other areas of our culture, such as sporting events. That's exactly what I was trying to get at, thank you lol And I agree, those videos are amazing quality. It really did feel like you were getting a feel for what it must have been like to see Freddy live. The crowd is just completely enamored and captivated by the guy!
  3. My only concern about Viggo is that he tends to be Cronenberg's choice like every time he makes a film lol. I know sometimes that tends to work out well (e.g. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp) in certain situations, and I do like Viggo as an actor, but he's really gonna have to show some range here I think. As for the subject matter, gosh, I honestly don't know what to think because I never even fathomed that a film like this would be marketable. I know it's an Indy, but you have some big names on board here. I just hope they actually keep the meat on the bones, so to speak, and not let it get all caught up in some silly chick flick. I'm nervous about that, cause Viggo would be a good choice to attract the ladies, so it makes me wonder if Cronenberg is going for the character actor (which is what he SHOULD be going for), or just the "easy choice" and sort of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. I know that this subject matter will be more important to me than it will be to others, but I'm really hoping for some good results! What's your take on it? Do you think these are the right choices for the project?
  4. WOW!!! As a summa cum laude graduate in psychology and a huge fan of psychoanalytic theory (although I personally subscribe to cognitive-behavioral therapy in terms of validity and efficacy), this film sounds AMAZING! Thanks for the head's up, VAder!
  5. Those are great songs for sure. I'm not explaining my point well, I don't think lol.
  6. Can't wait to read it, Sage I agree with Billsfan...if you don't enjoy the Muppets, you have no soul!!!!!
  7. What about the music itself, though? Some of Queen's tracks have basically become anthems. Save for "Born in the USA", I don't know that Bruce can compare in this regard. That's what I was thinking about in terms of being iconic, more so the music than the performer. I see what you mean about working the crowd...even on just the few video clips I've seen, it's almost infectious watching him on stage in terms of the energy he brings. I can't wait to see the entire Montreal show on bluray! Anyone know off hand approx what percentage of Elvis' music he wrote or co-wrote?
  8. Wow, I wish I were a bit closer to having a vinyl rig set up...Amazon has the vinyl version of that album for sale Interesting track list...several of his own cuts combined with covers of James Taylor and the Beatles...nice!
  9. Buftex, that's a great story about JD, man! Loved your line about how music is your constant companion...I'd say that's true of a lot of us on here, and that's why I LOVE our music threads. Like you guys, I have a lot of memories about the guy, as well. We had two or three of his 8-tracks in our woody station wagon when I was a kid. Aside from Debbie Boone, who my mom loved, JD probably got the most playing time. I still remember how the 8-track looked. It was black in color and it was one of his greatest hits albums. It had four or five songs that we always sang to while driving...gosh, I haven't thought about this stuff in YEARS!! I tell you which song always sort of hit me in the emotional department, it's Sunshine on My Shoulders. I have no idea why, but it seems to trigger something from my youth. It really showcases the timbre of his voice, which actually is very nice and perhaps a bit underrated. I was really sad when I heard of his passing...
  10. I"m not a Clooney fan, but tend to enjoy his films. Looking forward to seeing this one. Last one I saw with him was probably one of my favorites - The American. Saw Super 8 last night...did nothing to take away from my ever-growing interest in the mind of Mr. Abrams! Was very excited to see Star Trek 2 get a release date...can't wait to see what direction he takes that franchise. The way he rebooted it was very smart, IMO.
  11. Great points...all I know is that they're both well represented in my music collection, and always will be
  12. I couldn't resist, I went ahead and ordered the blu ray version of LiveAid/Montreal, and the DVD version of "Live at the Bowl"...these clips you guys posted are absolutely amazing, and I just realized another gap in my Freddy experience - I haven't seen enough of him LIVE! I have put a lot of time and money into a great home theater/audio system, so Freddy deserves nothing but the best! Can't wait to get this... For some reason I didn't think there was a lot of live footage of Freddy and the boys....but now I know why those clips that you, Levi, and others posted are such good quality! I feel like a moron....I had no idea they were this amazing live! Gotta definitely keep Bruce in the conversation since (I believe) he wrote most of his own shiit, just like Freddy and the boys did. Freddy still stays in the top spot for me since I think he was more physically gifted in terms of his vocals, and also because Queen has arguably been more iconic. Just my opinion...and I grew up with Bruce more than I did with Queen.
  13. I was listening to some of the 30 sec cuts on Amazon...I may pick up this album for sure. Pumped Up Kicks is pretty dark though! I'll see if I can find the link to the interview with the lead singer...it was interesting.
  14. That one's on me, brother...Happy T-day
  15. I know, lol...it makes you wonder if anyone ever listens to the lyrics. At first I thought I was misinterpreting them, but then I looked up an interview with the band's lead singer and he pretty much confirmed that it was a dark song and that the lyrics were exactly what I thought they were. YOu're right, it's very inappropriate for those events! Here ya go: Roger Taylor
  16. lol, pumped up kicks is pretty catch too...oh, and I was referring to the original version of 'car'....I saw RogerTaylor talking about it on the "Queen: A Night at the Opera" documentary and it sort of stuck in my head. I dig that guy's voice, too...almost like a more rock version of Rod Stewart.
  17. That's something I've been realizing more and more is that there is so much great Queen music that never hit the radio and that I never heard before. Even that Roger Taylor song, "I'm in Love With My Car" has really gotten some air time with me lately cause it's sorta catchy. I'd never heard it prior to a few months ago and it wasn't on the Queen compilation (2-disc) that was sort of serving as the foundation of the Queen tracks in my personal library. I want to go back and pick up the first two Queen albums and give a complete listen to both, cause I'm sure that MOST of those tracks I'm not familiar with. Funny you say that about the age thing and my posts lol...I've heard that a few times...and sometimes I feel about ten years older than I actually am
  18. Well that's too bad man, cause that episode deserves better
  19. Dude, we went to four Super Bowls with a less imposing version of Dark Helmet at free safety.
  20. I LOVED that movie the first time I ever saw it and still do today. As soon as it gets a bit more nipply in here, I'm gonna watch it (*standing in underwear holding tube*, "SCHITTER'S FULL..." )
  21. This sounds majorly gay in retrospect, but I'll take one for the team since it's Freddy... When I was growing up in the 70s/early 80s (born in '72), my friends and I would go to this roller rink/arcade place. It was basically shaped like an oval donut, with the donut hole being occupied by a really cool arcade. Anyway, I remember we'd go there every so often, and the BEST time to get out there on the skates was when they played a Queen song. Another One Bites the Dust, We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, etc...that's when just about everyone got out there and just got into the music. I'm really thankful for this, because Queen was basically my first real exposure to a rock ban, and I became a fan of theirs from a very young age. At home, my parents were going through a WICKED disco phase, and all we had there were 8 tracks and cassettes of disco music. Not that there is anything wrong with that...after all, it was the farkin 70s....but I feel as if Freddy and the boys were part of my life from early on and I've grown to appreciate him as an adult even more than when I was a kid. BTW, the Night at the Opera documentary is available on Netflix streaming for anyone who hasn't seen it....it's fantastic! Wow, I happened to have my Sennheiser headphones sitting here, so since I had NFL Network on and I wanted to hear Freddy on the video, I put the headphones on. If anyone else has a pair, toss em on while watching this clip...sounds like you're there live as it was being performed!
  22. My memory sometimes isn't the best, but I'm PRETTY sure it was you who helped me to see the finale in a different light, to the point where I was overwhelmed with how brilliant it really was. Did you have some sort of write-up or article from someone that sort of broke down the episode? The way Chase wrote it, it was almost like a tribute to the biggest fans of the show, because there were a lot of subtleties and such that needed to be recognized in order to sort of "decode" the episode. The casual viewer wouldn't understand or appreciate it as much without being mindful of this stuff, which is why at first I didn't get it. If that was in fact you, do you still have the link to that article/write-up? Meazza (and others) might really enjoy reading that and it might give him different perspective on what happened as it did me. True, valid point...I guess I'd just rather he take an off-season if he doesn't have something really great already in mind, you know? This show has become special to a lot of us, and I'd hate to have a rushed season at the end that didn't do justice to the first four. I rarely have any trouble delaying gratification, and would choose that over a season that fails to meet the bar that has already been set...cause that sumbitch has been set HIGH. Definitely...would love to check that out! And just for the record with regard to Lost, I didn't mean to hack on the show above...as I admitted in the Lost thread, I cried like a BABY during the finale. They took me to a place I was NOT expecting to go, and they tied things together in a way I never saw coming. It blew me away, and just the thought of watching it again has me feeling emotional...that's the impact it had on me. Yeah, I think you will see the Sopranos finale in a different light, man...honestly, there was a LOT to it...I couldn't believe it when I read the breakdown and then watched it a second time. And yeah, I know my criticisms are probably unrealistic, I guess it's just my personality to have a clear path of where I'm going before I take the first step, and knowing that this isn't always the case with tv sort of turns me off to it.
  23. Tom Coughlin
  24. The only problem is that he created an ending for S4 that he just won't be able to match, lol. If he finds a way to top it, I'll be forever in awe of the guy. Most of us don't need him to top it, just keep the quality of the show at the same level. I dunno, I just don't want to see behind the curtain sometimes, and this is one of them. If Tgreg were working on a really big project, even though he's here posting actively and even if he were willing to talk to me about his ideas, I wouldn't want to know. I'd rather just forget about all the behind the scenes stuff and enjoy what ends up on my tv. And I sure as hell don't want to hear that Gilligan has no idea where to take the show
  25. What that idiot did today was disgraceful. If he's not suspended either internally by the Lions or by the NFL - or both - then the NFL is run by hypocrites. This guy isn't a football player, he's a thug and a liar. Detroit is having their best season in a long time, but this fugtard is going to put a big shat streak all over if if they don't do something about it now.
