You don't visit the gameday threads much (which makes you better and smarter than me :)), but you'll find those folks in there.

I do visit them and I was super critical of Allen last night for the first few quarters because he was playing like a meathead.  But trade him?  My goodness.  I haven't seen that.

I want to shout out Ryan Van Demark. He had to come into the game cold when Dawkins left for a couple drives, playing one of the most critical roles on the offense. Last year in a similar situation we had Quessenberry replace Dawkins and our offense couldn't even function. With Van Demark we didn't miss a beat. The kid was ready when his number was called.

    And Dane.  Dane was HUGE.

Or was he calling out Brady.

Because if McD wants Allen to throw it into the endzone, WHO does he want him to throw it to?

There was not a single Bills receiver in the endzone!!!!!!

    Not a single one!!!

That’s because he threw it too quickly - the receivers hadn’t even had a chance to run their routes.

I agree with you, but I was responding to a poster who said we’d get in trouble with the league which is not accurate.

McBeane are experts at revealing the least amount of information they need to about pretty much every aspect of the team, injuries especially. They want teams to scheme against Diggs likes he’s 100% which opens things up for other players. I’m sure most DCs can see what’s going on with Diggs and will scheme accordingly but McD isn’t going to give them any extra help/info if he can avoid it.

Obviously I’m just speculating like everyone else. We’ve got a lot of history with Diggs though, so unless we think he all-of-a-sudden checked out, isn’t giving his all, or slammed into the Father Time wall in the Jax game, I think the combo of him being dinged up/Josh’s shoulder/Brady run game emphasis explains a lot of what we are seeing. I don’t think this is a behind-the-scenes Diggs vs Buffalo drama that is playing out. I think its the war of attrition that is the game of football along with a new OC emphasizing the run.

I think Brady knows he needs Diggs to be more involved to make it to the playoffs and make a run when we are there. I expect to see it start Sunday

But yet - if he’s truly nursing something, calling an inside running play for him in a goal-to-go situation last week was … bizarre.

As a total smooth brained NFL outsider, I get the sense that McDaniel is a good coach and a good x and o’s guy. Whether he sticks around as HC forever, I don’t know. But I think it’s a little unfair to put all their success on their WR. They’re fairly well coached too.

I think Tua is a tier 2 QB. Good but not great. Whatever tier Kirk Cousins is in. I think once they pay him and they can’t afford the weapons around him they’ll start to struggle a bit more.

They gave us fits with Skylar last year. I think McDaniel could have some Shanahan lite in him.

Agree 100%.  McDaniels needs to win this game (and make a statement doing so) to cement his reputation as the new McVay/Shanny.  He needs to coach up the game of his life and I’m sure he know that.  We are gonna get their A game tomorrow night and had better be ready.

Yeah I think this is true.

Here are the 3 reasons I think it’s so:

    1. Josh Allen is highly variable, and highly scrutinized. He has a penchant for turning the ball over. At the same time he makes plays. Almost every interview he does is about managing his risk taking, the constant pecking on his mental state. I just watched his interview with Michael Smith, and that’s the whole interview, ditching “low positive” and getting back to himself, but it ultimately circles back to turnovers. Allen said it - he’s viewed as a “turnover machine”.

    2. I think the Bills don’t have enough offensive firepower. 2020, 2021, 2022 and now this year - we’re short another dynamic WR. So in my mind this is why this team seems to lose its way seemingly out of nowhere (48 against the Dolphins, 20 against the Jaguars). We have a rocket armed QB that wants to throw outside the numbers to WRs and our best WR is a high level possession WR (Greg Cosell) and the rest of the options are just guys.

    3. Our defense is old - Safety - a lot of age on the defensive line - and because of that we’re always managing injuries down the stretch. It adds a layer of stress. Add into that this coaching staff over the years have had poor defensive showings in the Playoffs, playing 17 yards off every WR. This leads to a bunch of nail biting games.

    Good post.

Once again this season they gave themselves the tiniest margin for error on offense.  Almost no playmakers and Allen has to do everything.  He lateraled successfully to Shakir on Sunday in a high-risk play; he almost fumbled the game away trying to do it again later (can you imagine the narratives about Allen if the Patriots recovered and scored?).  Beane is a decent GM but his mismanagement of the offense borders on a war crime.

Sorry to upset some folks, but this is as Billsy as it gets.  2 seed or out of the playoffs. All because we lost to some bad bad teams

Yup and it’s exactly what fits this 2023 version of the Bills: they totally deserve either the #2 seed or to miss the playoffs entirely.  It’s oddly fitting.
