  1. They also kept reiterating that 9 points meant it was a 2-score game. Are there really that many casual fans who are THAT casual?
  2. I love the Bills, but I probably would have had to have gone against them if someone told me that only one of Buffalo, Cleveland, Indianapolis or San Diego was going to win at home against NFC opponents this week.
  3. Let me start this by saying I'm still pissed about the ESPN Sunday Night crew's coverage of the Bruschi stroke game 3 years ago. You should all know what I'm talking about. Remember when they came up with a new stat called "hits" or something and tracked that for Bruschi? He had a bunch of "hits" in the game but few tackles (if anyone remembers the fake stat, let me know). That is the backstory. I'm in a fantasy league with individual defensive players where the bulk of our points come from solo tackles. Early in the season, I sift through all of the box scores to see who is getting a bunch of solo tackles. Along with solo tackles they also list assisted tackles. Assisted tackles are vague and players usually don't get many of them. For instance, London Fletcher had a good fantasy day today with 12 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles. It's normal for the elite linebackers to often get about a third to a half as many assisted tackles as solo tackles. Five assisted tackles was highest in the NFL this week. Well almost highest. Rodney Harrison had 7 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles for New England. That was only second highest. Bruschi had 2 solo tackles and a whopping 10 assisted tackles this week. I searched around for background on awarding assisted tackles and found this: "Tackles (solos and assists) are not an official stat, as you noted, so every stadium's stat crew awards them differently. Some crews (STL, ATL) award assists extremely rarely, others award assists to the second player in on nearly every tackle. The only consistent aspect of assisted tackles is that, while two players may be given an assist (and no solo awarded) on a given play, there's no more than two players credited with an assist on a single play and never more than one assist when a solo tackle has already been awarded. There's probably some criteria for judging assisted tackles given to the stat crews, but I don't believe it's been made public and it's clearly applied differently by everyone anyway." Since it was a home game, I'm assuming that any time those two are near the ball, the New England stat crew gives them credit for an assisted tackle. It's low on my list, but just another reason to hate them.
  4. I'm a Louisville fan and while looking on their message board I noticed this post that might interest some of you (FYI, Bob Valvano and Will Wolford do a local morning show in Louisville)... http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=17#s=17&amp...9&t=2577743 Posted: 6/13/2008 4:34 PM Anybody hear Will Wolford this morning on Bob and Will? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob Valvano was talking about the Mets coach how he is still on thin ice with his job. Then Bob asked Will if he ever played for a coach on the hot seat and if it made a difference with the players. Will says yes and talked about his rookie year with the Bills. He said the veteran players hated the coach (Bullough) and were purposely playing bad to lose games so he would be gone (Levy took over the following year). Will was saying that players were saying things like “you better not make a tackle at the goal line” and such. Will was just a rookie and said he wasn't exactly sure what to make of things. It’s not surprising to hear this stuff happens, but it was a little surprising to me to hear Will freely talk about a specific instance where this happened.
  5. It's true that he hasn't recovered, but I watched every game of his college career (and even a couple of high school games) and never realized he was soft. Please fill me in as to how you reached this conclusion. I'm assuming you've studied quite a bit of film.
  6. That movie is the most painful thing you will ever watch. I was so excited to find out he had a movie, but ended up watching it in 10 minute sessions because it was so painful.
  7. Jim Rome is a moron. Morons often say things that are incorrect. It is incorrect to say someone who can use their arms is a quad. Is it starting to add up?
  8. filmthreat.com is another good site for reviews of indie films.
  9. You are right, I just wish it were more like fantasy basketball and baseball where it's virtually impossible to win without actually having the best team all year.
  10. It annoys me when people care more about their fantasy team than any real team. I just wish their wasn't so much luck involved in fantasy football so those of us who actually understand it and have been playing it a while could cash in on all of the novices just getting into it. However, the short season and playoff systems usually allow too much luck to enter into the equation and the best team doesn't win as much as it should. Oh well, I guess part of the reason its so popular is because you don't really need to know that much about football to win (as long as you have a little bit of luck).
  11. He's good at not taking a sack. Not necessarily because of his size, but because he will just throw the ball up for grabs instead of actually taking the sack.
  12. Cool, the trailer looked like it had some of that in it, but I assumed everyone was in on the joke in the movie. By the way, the government of Kazakhstan has been complaining about this for a while now. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=1315240
  13. I want to get my hopes up, but I watched Da Ali G movie (from England) and it was the most painful movie-watching experience of my life. I have a feeling his brilliance comes when he is in a situation where no one else is in on the joke and not in a scripted movie. Of course, I hope I'm wrong but his first movie was just awful. Even if it sucks I'll always have the Season 1 DVD of the television show.
  14. Here's where I got the Shelton info (obviously a biased source) http://mb25.scout.com/flouisvillefrm4.show...cID=27902.topic
  15. He was in a very, very crowded backfield his senior year but was great when he entered games. Hopefully he turns out to be a steal. Eric Shelton, one of the guys ahead of him at U of L, is apparently coming back strong from injury and turning heads in Panthers camp. Michael Bush was also in the same backfield and has been as high as number 2 in some of the 2007 mock drafts.
  16. I watched Balkman in the SEC tournament and a few games of the NIT (bad year for my Louisville Cards). All I know, is the guy played like his life was on the line in the NIT. It might have been a reach, but it couldn't hurt to have someone with that attitude around jackasses like Steve Francis.
  17. As a Louisville fan, I watched UConn not even really try last Saturday and take my Cardinals' best punch. I'm not at all surprised that they lost the first game of the Big East tournament, because they seem to know that they have a #1 seed locked up. I expect the Huskies to make a deep run in the real tournament.
  18. Good to know I can start smoking as long as I do some puzzles as well since they net each other out.
  19. - Didn't really think about whether he would ever get another head coaching job - Wanted to take care of whatever job he had at the moment - For it to work, entire organization must be on same page, and get lucky in terms of injuries and the way the ball bounces - A chance to win is all you can ask for - Couldn't answer how the team needs to change to win in AFC East, has only watched a couple of tapes - Most of the pressure to win is internal - Has always enjoyed being around football, especially a team where everyone is committed to the team - Doesn't feel like he's ever been overwhelmed by pressure - Hasn't met with players yet - When he meets with the team the first time he will tell them the rules he will enforce - First order of business is to hire a staff and then evaluate the talent on current roster, then free agents, then college - Every position is open to competition - Would not say who would be QB So, nothing new or groundbreaking at all.
  20. Not bad enough to leave the game. He was well enough to try to get at Vick on the way to the locker room at half time. Vick's arrest was the lead story on the Louisville newscast last night whereas it probably would not have been mentioned prior to the Gator Bowl. He seems to have become public enemy number one.
  21. I wouldn't use the term "almost unwatchable." It was completely unwatchable. I'm a huge fan (have watched season 1 episodes 9 or 10 times each) and had to break the movie into 10 minute increments per day (just to see if it had any hidden funny moments) just to make it through it. Hopefully the Borat movie will be better.
  22. I just moved from the East End of Louisville to Northern KY for a new job around a year ago. I loved it there (Brownsboro Road area) and I recommend it if you can afford it. A great number of people have had the Oldham County idea, and the I-71 really can't handle the rush hour traffic. It received a Grade of F as a highway in some state study a few years ago. It's a nice area, but traffic is a complete mess during rush hour. As far as Southern Indiana, if I can't say something nice I won't say anything at all.
