The orange and black is a good color combination. But the red on the front of the uniform? No way!

How well did Justin Bannan play?
KurtGodel77 replied to KurtGodel77's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can anyone tell me whose fault it was when Willis lost 8 yards on that one red zone running play? -
You know, it looks like St. Louis could win this game after all.
-
You guys are right. But if the Pats were to lose today, the Bills would only be three games away from the division lead. They could cut that to two games out with a win next week. Oh well.

how are the pats stopping the rams?

Unfortunately, our game against NE will be an away game. But I agree with running the ball a lot. -
We'll just have to put an end to this little winning streak next week.

I loved that call, and I loved the fact McGahee made it stick.

Part of the Travis/Willis record difference is who we were playing. Two of Willis's wins have been against the likes of Miami and Arizona. If Willis delivers his usual 100 yard performance/win on the road against NE, then that part of the argument will be laid to rest. Another part of the record difference is because our team as a whole is doing better later on into the season; especially the offensive line. But then part of it is because Willis is a better runner and a more complete player than Travis. Travis is great if you want to run the ball between the tackles. Problem is, the best way to get to our QB is to blitz him up the middle. Having your RB run between the tackles doesn't exactly discourage the other team from sending an extra guy or two up the middle. With Willis's ability to break the ball to the outside, break tackles, and move the pile, suddenly the simple strategy of always blitzing up the middle doesn't look so good anymore. The other stuff that people mentioned--blitz pickup, catching passes, etc., helps too. Put it all together, and our offense is harder to defend against and harder to stop with Willis on the field.

Those words are right on the money. Travis had success when we were a passing team, when defenses were looking for the pass. If you hand even a below-average running back the ball enough times, he'll get over 1000 yards for the season. Jimmy Johnson proved that in Miami. Travis isn't a no-name back like those guys were. But if you look at the running backs in the league over the last few years, there are usually 12 - 15 guys who are better than Travis. That makes Travis about average for a starting RB.

McGee Not ready to replace Vincent
KurtGodel77 replied to LABILL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The question is, can McGee eliminate his problems with time and coaching? If so, then Troy Vincent at FS would really give us a solid secondary. -
Makes you wonder why we didn't just sign Trent Dilfer in the first place. Oh well. Now we have JP.
-
Both are physical runners, but I'd say Willis seems to be the more physical of the two. I like the way he fights for the extra yard.

I don't want to hear ANYONE from the Jets complaining about bad officiating. In the first game between the Bills and the Jets, the Jets only had one TD drive. One. On that drive, 50 yards came from bad calls by the officials. Take away the bad calls, and the Bills are 2-0 against the Jets.

I'm impressed. I hope you're right about the second half of the season. If we get to 9-7, it means we'll have beaten some pretty good teams under some tough circumstances. Which this team just might have the ability to do.

Microwave. I'd forgotten about that. -
Do we really want run WM this much???
KurtGodel77 replied to col_forbin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
37 carries is absolutely ridiculous. McGahee is better than Travis, but if you want McGahee to be fresh down the stretch, you have to give Travis some of those carries. No running back can maintain the same level of play as the year wears on if you give him the ball 37 times a game. -

Whose fault was that 8 yard loss that McGahee had near the goal line? -
This game is exactly what TD must have been hoping for when he brought MM in to coach this team. 'Nuff said.
-
Is this guy a contender or a pretender?
-
Back in preseason, MM said the o-line would gel, but that it was a "pipe dream" to expect it to gel by the first game of the regular season. He seems to have hit that nail right on the head!

Bills Will Beat Cards & Jets
KurtGodel77 replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good work, Bench. I wish you the best in your future predictions, but I sure hope you're wrong about next week. -
The reason Losman isn't RJ is simple: in college, RJ wasn't known as a sack waiting to happen, because his offensive line was good. In the pros, he never had the chance to play for a team with a good offensive line. Losman, on the other hand, had a lousy offensive line when in college. He demonstrated a Flutie-like ability to mask the weakness of his team's line, and an RJ-like ability to throw the deep pass. Putting Losman in when he's healthy would make sense.

You say that you should go with the proven veteran, instead of with a 2nd year player who has only played a few games (albeit good ones). By that logic, Belichick made a mistake when he chose to give Bledsoe's starting role to Brady. Travis Henry is our Drew Bledsoe. And Drew Bledsoe? He's our Drew Bledsoe too.

So, when Teague is healthy..........

Bannan might be our best candidate for LG. -
As someone pointed out, it's best to have the bulk of your portfolio in index funds. Avoid anything with over a 1% annual fee like the plague, and try to get the annual fee as small as possible. Past outperformance of the market does not predict future outperformance of the market, so never pay a management fee for a mutual fund. Over time that fee will kill your performance. If you do want to buy individual stocks, try to stick with companies that you know something the market may not know. For instance, let's say that you're in the shopping mall, and you happen to notice that there seem to be more people in a particular store than usual. You've noticed this pattern for a few months. Chances are the market doesn't know this yet, because the company only has to report its earnings once a quarter. So buy stock in that company. If later on you see that the crowds are starting to thin out, sell the stock before the market realizes what's happened. If you do things this way, and if you do a little digging, then odds are you'll make money more often than not. Just keep in mind that no investment strategy is successful 100% of the time.
