125 places to have a beer before you die....
gmac17 replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in Off the Wall Archives
There is nothing wrong with it, but it is one of thousands of similar bars across america. Lots of beers on tap, young college kids all around, bar food etc - just doesn't stick out in my mind. -

been there a few times, and the view is cool and all but I wouldn't think of it as a place to have a beer before you die. They probably needed to get something in Vegas. maybe. they say it is the oldest continuously running bar, since others took some time off during prohibition. nobody really knows for sure. my favorite is the Ear Inn, which feels just as old as mcsorleys without the lines outside and the tourists. My second favorite, Chumleys closed down last year unfortunately. -

Pete - I would have bet $1,000 that you would come back with the exact post that you did. but seriously, what a horrible list. The ghost bar in vegas??? Sunset bar and grill in Boston? the entire list loses all respect for me just because of those. and only 2 bars in NY? ugh. -

I have a question about this web site?
gmac17 replied to BDW1968's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
classic. I like the board a lot and wouldn't change it. The absolute worst board on earth is Big Blue Interactive. If it wasn't for all those pesky super bowl wins i'd feel sorry for those guys. -
interesting. I could buy it until the part about the "well organized group" that was behind it all- that part seems tough to believe (not sure why...)
-
I think that is largely a fair assessment. I am also almost always on the side of the police in these situations (including this one).

not a big deal, the article says he "is extremely remorseful"

For hockey lovers, you might not like my Penguins

the first goal you didn't even know someone scored if it wasn't for the horn. i don't think silly terms make a good announcer. good play by play with a good voice make a good announcer. -
I agree - I really enjoy kimmel. Can't stand leno, like letterman enough, conan is funny but not for the masses and not every night. I also like the new nightline, so the 11:30-12:30 fall asleep time is great for me.

classic stuff...I have a few stories along this line. 1) A girl I know saw a guy without shoes in NYC in winter begging and went and bought some boots for him. Next day, guy wasn’t wearing the boots. Probably made 3x as much with his shoes off. 2) Along the lines of plzn – I’ve seen one lady who is great at it. She is dressed well and has bags in her hands and her purse out as if she is looking through it and says “somehow I left my wallet at home..do you have $2 for the bus?”. Very convincing. 3) Last year on 34th street some lady asked me for money. I was walking into dunkin donuts and felt kind that morning, so I said no but I’ll buy you breakfast. As I start opening the door to Dunkin Donuts she says - I kid you not - “no…I want McDonalds”. For some reason I still got her breakfast at DD, should have told her to f off. 4) A few years ago on a REALLY cold morning near my house (sub 10 degrees) I make eye contact with a 65 year old homeless guy as I’m leaving to get some coffee. I get my coffee, come walking back and we make eye contact again…for some reason I felt like I had to say something so I open my big fat mouth and say “it’s cold out, huh?” and as I realize what I just said the guy goes “I KNOW IT'S COLD – I LIVE OUTSIDE”…I gave him my coffee and my donut and ran home ...

Time For Another Meeting Of The WNYTBDGPS

at the risk of sounding ignorant, what does the gps part stand for... -
good points, i'll try to see how they set it up. I'd imagine they compared the same varietals or otherwise all bets are off.

Olivier - This study wasn't done by idiots, it was done by people who understand wine. I'm sure they weren't serving year old cabs or bordeaux that were supposed to be opened in 10 years. We see the same results all the time when we choose our wines - when we taste blind people pick the $14 bottles just as often as the $30 bottles.
-
not sure - read the paper in the link above, it was a pretty thorough and statistical analysis. I'm just about positive they didn't pick strangers off the street, ie the people were wine drinkers of some sort. People who had formal training in wine were the only ones who preferred more expensive wines, but the difference was minimal. the range in prices was $2 to $150.
-
From the abstract: Individuals who are unaware of the price do not derive more enjoyment from more expensive wine. In a sample of more than 6,000 blind tastings, we found that the correlation between price and overall rating is small and negative, suggesting that individuals on average enjoy more expensive wines slightly less.

What do you think the Bills "War Room" is like?
gmac17 replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a friend who works for the bills, he sent me this picture of the war room. They are pretty excited over at OBD - ralph just sprung for a big upgrade of the computer system. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd187/alx55/war-room.jpg -
in relation to our previous thread on wine, I saw a great study the other day about how the price of a wine has no influence as to the enjoyment by the drinker when done blind. It said that only trained wine experts enjoyed expensive wines more, and even then the difference was barely significant.

ESPN radio discussed possible teams moving to LA

fwiw, mike and the mad dog were both arguing the other day that the NFL wouldn't let the bills flat out move to another city for the same "strong fan base" reasons.
