What FA Signings Have Directly Lead to SB Wins?
MikePJ76 replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
yes it absolutely would not. It would have had he stayed healthy in 22 and the bills won the super bowl. That would be an exact answer to what this thread is about. This thread is about a free agent signing that led directly and impacted directly the team getting over the hump and winning the super bowl. It has almost never happened in one season via free agency. The closest thing is Deion, Demarcus ware, Tom Brady-Gronk.....but even each of those have a number of other additions that helped the team. basically this thread shows that a free agent signing will not get you over the hump in one year to a championship and that is all. Trades have been more productive and team building takes a lot of time. Free agency is best used to fill holes you have and you get your core players from the draft. Its pretty much always been that way. -
What FA Signings Have Directly Lead to SB Wins?

The thread is about Free Agent Signings that put teams over the top. I pointed out that Charles Haley Was not a free agent signing. Haley brought an element Dallas did not have for the most part in 90 and 91 when they turned it around. However their defensive line was pretty good, it was their secondary that needed the most work and that is why Detroit with that unique for the time Run n Shoot offense was a mismatch. Detroit also was impossible to beat at the silverdome that year. Since you want to take this approach with me I will respond accordingly. I started watching the nfl as a kid in 83. I am well aware of that era of the nfl. Dallas had another excellent draft in 92 which added to the team Kevin Smith, Robert Jones and Darren Woodson. Smith was outstanding, Jones was the rookie of the year and Woodson had a hall of fame career. Woodson is still the modern day prototype safety, Big and strong to play the run but quick and agile enough to cover the slot. He should be in the hall of fame. During the season they traded for safety Thomas Everett. They completely remade their secondary in 92 and it was unique for the time with a guy like woodson playing in Dallas mostly Cover 4 scheme on the backend. Haley was brought in right before the summer and fit right in providing the edge rush they needed but Dallas defense improved tremendously that offseason Haley withstanding. I remember that Dallas draft so well because they drafted a player from Tennessee who went the rival high school of my high school....He was from Rome Free Academy (Rome, NY) and I was in 9th grade at the time at Proctor High School (Utica, NY) RFA and Proctor were rivals especially in baseball (my sport). Both had (Have) excellent baseball programs. so again the thread is about free agent signings and you are mansplaining (somewhat incorrectly) Haley's importance to Dallas defense. So one more time, Charles Haley was not a free agent signing that led to a championship because he was not a free agent signing. that was 4 seasons later. The packers underwent a ton of change in those 4 years before they won the superbowl. They got beat by Dallas in each of those 3 playoff losses in part because their big time free agent signing, Reggie White got manhandled by Dallas right tackle Eric Williams. Williams owned white. -

Umm. Charles Haley was traded to Dallas in 1992. He was not a free agent signing. -

Reggie White got his azz whipped as a packer playing vs Dallas in the playoffs. He lost to Dallas in the playoffs in 93, 94 and 95. He was not the difference maker. GB won the nfc in 96 because SF and Dallas were beat up and run down from years of deep playoff runs and veteran players getting old. -
The exact same thing they did with cook last year. This team is built to run the ball and if they get a big time wr in the draft that is going to open up the running game even more. There are plenty of touches to go around. IMO this team needs another legitimate running back. I imagine they draft one in the middle rounds. A guy who can play right away. To go one step further if they are to use say 9 of the 11 picks, I would try and find a stud blocking tight end, off the top of my head I can not name one in the draft because I essentially hate college football at this point but they are always out there. A running game cures all ills. Defense struggling, run the ball slow the game down, bad weather run the ball, have a big lead and do not want to throw the ball, run the ball....redzone, short yardage etc. they have all the major components of a great running game already set adding just a little more to it will be great for the team and imo will protect Allen a little more during the season...I do not want to see allen running the tush push multiple times a game every week going forward. That is a recipe for disaster to me so continue to build the running game. IMO another good running back and a great blocking tight end continues to build this. I also know they like to use the third tackle as an extra tight end so that works for me too.

Haley was a trade. Dallas had all the parts already, they had another excellent draft in 92 adding guys like Darren Woodson and Kevin Smith. -
if you want your safeties to be better, build a great defensive line that disrupts the game. This is the year for this organization to rebuild the defensive line and this time get big time production from this group, particularly in the playoffs. This team should have excellent linebackers and corners next year. If they build an equal defensive line they can get by with just good safety play from a rookie or mid level veteran. Then go after a big time safety next season. This off season to me is all about building a new defensive line much like last year was improving the offensive line safety is way down my list to worry about. Allen needs a big time weapon at wr if not two more and the defensive line has to be rebuilt and not just with average players.

Deion plus like a dozen more guys. The niners cheated the cap that year and used signing bonuses and other things no one was doing to sign all these all star players. Deion, Gary Plummer, Ken Norton Jr., Charles Mann, Tim Harris, Richard Dent, Rickey Jackson, Ed McCaffery and Bart Oates. They literally signed a pro bowl team of free agents. They could not stop Dallas offense and this was their only way to win and had Dallas not been banged up they probably lose the 94 nfc championship too. after this season they were never close to this level again in that era. -

yea in effect it was Manning and then Demarcus Ware later. Ware dominated in that championship season. He did what chris jones did this year, he impacted brady on the most important drives of the game denying them touchdowns. -
I know it can't happen but Barkley could have a historic season in this Bills offense. Barkley and Cook would be a fascinating duo. Barkley might have 15 receiving Touchdowns here. I was hoping the Giants would have made a friendly deal to trade him here two years ago but the Giants started fast and made the playoffs. Barkley would create so many mismatches for defenses here it would be fantastic to watch. I hope he stays in the NFC. It doesn't get talked about much but I believe this team needs another running back to go with cook. Not a change of pace guy or big bruiser, another legitimate full time back.

Who Would You Trade Up For, And How Far Would You Go Up To Get Them?
MikePJ76 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
Dane Brugler's most recent mock has Buffalo trading with Dallas. I will just say I am not of fan of UT players. They all seem like spoiled brats. 24. Buffalo Bills (from DAL)*: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas Projected trade: Bills send No. 28 and No. 99 to the Cowboys for No. 24 and No. 213 I am not 100 percent sold on Mitchell being a culture fit for Buffalo. General manager Brandon Beane wants super competitive players, and Mitchell showed flashes of that, along with the talent to become a top-15 receiver in the NFL. Based on talent and skill level, Mitchell would be an upgrade at receiver — but how he interviews will determine everything. Beane will never be shy trading up for a player he thinks can be a difference-maker. -
I will miss him. The Old guard of the NFL is completely gone. The game has changed and the people who cover it have changed. Now we have backwards hat youtube guy who watches film and are all draft experts and scheme experts. The Peter King, Rick Gosselin, Will McDonough's etc etc...were writers who along with nfl films told stories and made the NFL more than it ever was. The players and coaches used to be characters in these stories and there was something magic about all of it. Now we have backwards hat youtube film watching draft experts arguing with players whose whole life revolves around dating instagram influencers and all that comes with that. It's all kind of boring to me and everyone in the nfl just seems really uncool....maybe that's not the best way to say it but they just seem like spoiled rich kids or something. anyway. I will miss reading peter king. I will also miss reading the funny stories about peter king. He once was invited to spend draft weekend in Dallas in the war room to write a piece. He kept falling asleep during the meetings and only was awake and talkative when the food arrived. Then he wrote this big piece on Dallas draft! Pretty funny. I remember watching him make appearances on the MSG network way back when he was a beat writer for the Giants. He was the last of his generation essentially.

Allen, the Super Bowl "window," and the KC hurdle
MikePJ76 replied to T.E.'s topic in The Stadium Wall
yes the injuries at linebacker were just incredibly poor timing. The defensive line was 100% healthy and they got pushed around at home all game. I just don't trust this front office/head coach to find DL talent in the draft. They seem to ironically have an excellent record drafting offensive players recently but the defense just has to be better. They can not continue to get pushed around at home in the playoffs. I don't know how they pull off what they need to do on defense in one offseason. It seems like a 2 to 3 year process -

beating the chiefs is 100 % on the defense. Mcdermott's group comes up short every year, low scoring games, high scoring games...doesn't matter his defense comes up small. and now they are essentially starting over on the defensive line which will take up precious resources, replacing precious resources that have already been spent on the defensive line. it feels like mcdermott is in the same spot tony dungy was in when he was in tampa...he just had no answers and could not get over the hump. hopefully they have an A+ draft and find some productive players in mid level free agency. So far their answer to the defense not getting over the hump was to overpay for von miller who then was injured and is not the same player anymore and they are stuck with him. He was supposed to be their charles haley, reggie white or jevon kearse to get them over the hump and he has been an expensive dud. They have dug quite a hole with the roster defensively and with a bad contract to miller. I am not sure how you rebuild an entire defensive line in one offseason.- 63 replies

Bills to add Ronald Curry as quarterbacks coach (updated)
MikePJ76 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
I will never not stop saying this but as long as Josh Allen is here Coaches will line up to coach here. If McDermott were to walk away next year The bills would have their pick of whatever coach they wanted. all the more reason to make sure the organization, the roster and the staff are fully behind him and he is given enough tools to do his job.- 93 replies

Should the Bills trade up for their own “Julio Jones”
MikePJ76 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
They are not in a position to trade up. They need to fill the roster with players on rookie contracts to alleviate the miller and diggs contracts over the next 2 years. They should definitely draft and sign a wr for sure but they need to rebuild the defensive line and find a safety. You know because the defensive head coach and the gm who works for the defensive head coach who spend most of their resources on defense....need to find defense again. We have to hope they hit on at least 4 guys who can play right away next year and find at least 4 mid level veteran free agents who can play right away. Have to just get through this short window where diggs and miller have these high salary numbers. -
seems kind of like Carolina is that. They have the new Dan Snyder and missed big time on their qb.

I guess but the rams were awful and He can not be held responsible for that giants season. He did the interim label as a favor more than likely to gettleman. It would be interesting how he would do in washington with a rookie qb and a young OC or a proven OC to install their systems while he runs the defense. maybe he is just a coordinator but you can make the case that quinn is also just a coordinator.
