  1. there's the difference. If I owned nothing, I'd find a different path to prosperity.
  2. crying out loud....never ignore verifiable truths. invent conspiracies instead. They're not out to get you. No one cares.
  3. He's not part of the group that wanted to kill its own vice president...you have a very strange idea of decency. Wondering if you think raping women in dressing rooms or bonking a porn star while your 3rd wife is pregnant is decent. How bout lying about your profession?
  4. You've got it backwards: Amazing that this board is so atypical re education and ideology😉 https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2016/04/26/a-wider-ideological-gap-between-more-and-less-educated-adults/
  5. I should have excepted collective knowledge from MAGA's. We saw their knowledge deficits during Covid...Lot's of stupid people thinking collectively might be worse than a single stupid person.
  6. Wow. Did you call any fellow molecular biologists this? I'd never heard the term til coming on this board. It strikes me as a bit defensive. perhaps your sexuality is in question. wrong. fascist haters.
  7. From the national archives: Since the Electoral College process is part of the original design of the U.S. Constitution it would be necessary to pass a Constitutional amendment to change this system. The ratification of the 12th Amendment, the expansion of voting rights, and the States’ use of the popular vote to determine who will be appointed as electors have each substantially changed the process. They weren't always correct. That's why we have amendments.
  8. Now that's just silly. The only people that don't like dogs are delivery people. I don't see the appeal of cats but would never vote to restrict their choice. Some people have to deal with rodents. A black rat snake here does a pretty good job but occasionally freaks me out - like yesterday. seriously, collective thought has been repeatedly proven better than individual thought. Our constitution protects us from mob rule by checks and balances.
  9. Define mob...people who live in cities? people who don't look like you? They are the image projected: Tough, aggressive, violent, male. Am I wrong?
  10. I'm expecting political fireworks... Hell, Taylor Swift might even show. No doubt there will be artists and hollywood people to entertain as well. Wrestling vs art...strange choice but different strokes...
  11. No, it would mean that the majority of the people control everything. How is that bad?
  12. What did Hulk Hogan look like? And the guy from ultimate fighting? They're appealing to the barbarian in all of us...Isn't that nice?
  13. Why? It's stupid. It's unfair and it wrongly weights your vote on which state you live in. What's good about it? I didn't watch but it seems it was booooooorring per this report https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/07/18/rnc-live-updates-coverage/trump-mentions-biden-00169702 This is interesting tho. R's are still science deniers it seems Former President Donald Trump says he will “unleash the power of American innovation” to get the country on the verge of curing Alzheimer’s and cancer — a topic that is increasingly of interest to patients, regulators and the health industry. The issue of research has been highlighted through the campaigns, including by the Biden administration, which has touted its Cancer Moonshot initiative. Funding cancer research has become an increasingly partisan issue in Congress, and the Biden administration has urged the National Institutes of Health to prepare for a future Trump administration by safeguarding its work from political interference, our colleague Erin Schumaker has previously reported.
  14. A pride and joy of Eastman Music
  15. The piece says the lawsuit was dismissed. kinda different from the recent decisions against the R monarch (nominated 3 f'in times in a row ). I voted for Bernie in the primary but never felt he had enough core votes. He's still fighting the good fight. Wish Howard Dean still led the DNC. I voted for him in primaries too. Very effective DNC leader. Very bright dude.
  16. You do realize "the machine" for D's is run by many, many people including local pols. We don't have a coronated leader. There's debate and argument. That's a good thing.
  17. Ummm, no. You left out the response option "all of the above". Plus he's sick, old and sometimes incomprehensible. Where there's smoke, there's fire...
  18. This is exactly how my Oncologist friend characterized Biden at the debate. Sadly, he knows much about death.
  19. He'll be out soon. Then the fun begins. any D but Biden makes it a nail biter. For me it's Whitmer. Michigan is a must. Michiganders are generally very proud of their state.
  20. No one except trump knows what his net worth is. I just wonder why he had trouble getting someone to post bond for his Jean Carrol rape case. He clearly didn’t have the liquid assets himself.
  21. Chicken or egg? What kind of person mortgages their child's future for $700/month? Desperate, evil or both? Either way, they're likely irredeemable when they get to this point. I can't imagine any federal program that would fix profound character flaws but starvation isn't a good look for the richest country on earth.
  22. very true. also, there are towns in Appalachia where 100's of oxycontin pills per resident per month are dispensed. There's a saying in those parts to "not rise above your raising". I think Vance quoted it in his book. That said, there are plenty of very fine people in Appalachia (the majority) and many that are improving or have improved their station through education and/or hard work.
  23. Fascinating interview. Illustrates his formation in his own words. He sounded more like a D than an R here: https://www.npr.org/2016/08/17/490328484/hillbilly-elegy-recalls-a-childhood-where-poverty-was-the-family-tradition
  24. This reminds me of the time a fellow parishioner asked if I had a gun and a bible. When I said yes, he told me I couldn't possibly be a liberal.
  25. "I can't stomach Trump," Vance said in an interview with NPR at the time. "I think that he's noxious and is leading the White working class to a very dark place." After the "Access Hollywood" tape emerged of Trump bragging about being able to grope women, Vance wrote in a since-deleted social media post: "Fellow Christians, everyone is watching us. When we apologize for this man, lord help us."
