  1. I'll admit it, I'm a King addict. Have been ever since junior high school. Not quite his "number one fan" ( ), but I've got just about everything he's written. (Yes, even the crappy ones.) And Different Seasons might just be my favorite out of all of 'em. IMHO, his novellas are his best work - long enough to really dig into, but not so long that his comic-book-style writing tricks start to annoy me.
  2. Considering how much cheaper Thai got his for, now I'm jealous.
  3. Damn funny accent for a Mexican. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....
  4. Yeah, but isn't Gash's knee still FUBARed? That's the last I heard - it never came back after his surgery in June, and the Saints released him because he couldn't pass a physical.
  5. I think somebody asked a question similar to this last week. Anybody come up with an answer yet?
  6. BF, a troll? Heaven forbid. (Although the folks over at the Sabres board might disagree. They let you back in there yet after that last Sabres/Pens series, Indiana Banana? Just pickin'.......) Then again, this board isn't designated as a Yankees or Braves board, so I have no more problems with BF posting his love for the Redbirds than I do with the legion of Yankees and Red Sox fans duking it out here. Couldn't care less about any of 'em, even though I know a kid who pitches in the Cardinals system. Will he still be around if they lose? Well, he's already been here a heck of a lot longer than you have, and he's still a Bills season-ticket holder, so I wouldn't bet against it.
  7. Sorry, Rob. I do have Bonnies season tix, if that makes you feel any better......
  8. Yeah? I may be a Reds fan (although more of a bitter EX-MLB fan these days, to be honest), but I don't see anything wrong with any of those statements......
  9. Think that's where EZCrew and those guys are. R.Rich is over that way too. Lot more season-ticket holders on that side, so I'm guessing it wouldn't be quite as fractious as the scoreboard side.....
  10. Well, yeah, if you're into that kind of stuff..... I believe, though, that the "friend" was referred to as 'she' in the original post. That could make a difference.... although from my seats in 109, I've seen quite a few alleged 'ladies' mixin' it up in that end zone. I just know that, personally, I'd rather go to a game to WATCH THE GAME than to break up fights started by the drunk kids right in front of me. That's why I only lasted one season in 221 (club level, tunnel EZ) before moving to sideline seats. But hey, that's just me.....
  11. Relentless, p. 243 Relentless, p. 252. Knox was officially hired on January 11th. In his foreword to Relentless, Sal Maiorana says much of his research was done from scrapbooks of local newspaper clippings compiled by the Bills PR department, so your guess is as good as mine as to where those stories originally appeared. Aside: I WANT TO SEE THOSE SCRAPBOOKS. Man. I'm drooling at the very thought of their existence.
  12. How about in the fieldhouse before games? Sal was in there pretty much every week last season, auto'ing copies of his AFL book at the Booster Club table. (Did some of my Christmas shopping with multiple copies of Game Night, then took them in to have him personalize them.) Your book has a Buffalo theme, and includes stories about Hunter and Doug Goodwin. Might want to think about chatting up the Booster Club about that possibility. (Unless you'd rather just tailgate instead. That works too. ) Oh, and Coupe de'Ville? You said it, bro. Can't do any better than this:
  13. Scoreboard EZ, or upper-deck 50? In January. As long as you plan ahead for the wind-chill factor, I'd take the upper deck. Especially considering that I expect the scoreboard EZ to look like Heinz Field, with all the Steelers fans sitting there. That's what happened the last time they played up here. Also, factor in that those are the least expensive seats in the stadium - (relatively) cheap tix equals more money for beer. Rival fans + mass quantities of alcohol, NOT a good mixture. And one more thing, it's almost impossible to see the scoreboard from there - you're turning around and looking almost straight up. Just my opinion.... others may disagree completely.....
  14. Lessee - Lou Saban was a proven winner when he came back in '72. Too bad he quit in the middle of the season, AGAIN, a couple of years later. After giving Jim Ringo a chance for a year, the Bills tried to get Bill Walsh, but he said he wanted to stay in California. So they signed Chuck Knox, who had just coached the Rams to their 5th straight NFC West title. When Knox left after '82, Kay Stephenson got the job. OK, that was a mistake. Stephenson got whacked in mid-85, so Bullough took over as interim HC and got a year to prove himself, much like Ringo. Then came Levy and Wade, then GW, then Mularkey (who reportedly got a 5 year/$7.5 million contract. Interesting definition of "cutting corners".) Let's add that up. Eight head coaches since 1972, three (Saban, Knox, Phillips) who had previously taken teams to the playoffs.
  15. Oh, Jennings isn't a bad player. When he can stay on the field, that is. That seems to be an ongoing issue with him, and it's how he got the nickname "Jennings a la Cart" a couple of years ago.
  16. Hmmm.. OK, that was the game I watched on tape after I got home from work that night. I must be blanking on that play. Actually, even though the announcers kissed up to Belichick and thought it was a good challenge on the Moulds TD, I was surprised about that one. On the radio, think it was Alex who said "if they overturn this TD, there ought to be an investigation". I rewatched the tape of that play after I got home, and I can't imagine what he (or whoever told him to challenge it) was thinking. As it turns out, throwing away their last challenge didn't end up burning them - but if Fletch doesn't cough up the fumble return, WE'RE certainly not going to review that pass to find out it was incomplete.....
  17. Really? I haven't seen a challenge from MM I've disagreed with yet. Is that left over from GW?
  18. You know, our last two HCs also lost their first three games. Wade won in his fourth game (San Fran '98), GW his fifth (Jax '01). There is hope. As for Gray, we'll see what happens when Milloy comes back. (Good players make coaches better, no?) I know, Vincent's out now.... but to be honest, I think McGee has the step TV seemed to have lost. Yeah, Patten was his guy on that one TD, but NE did a good job of running crossing patterns and picking McGee off - he had to detour around another one of our DBs, didn't catch who. Not a lot of deep safety help all day. Agreed, though, NO more prevent defense. Argh. That was definitely on him, even if Clements blew the 4th-and-14.
  19. I would hope so, considering he started yesterday. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/gamebook/NFL_20041003_NE@BUF
  20. I realize it's Vegas and all, but isn't it a little early in the day to be this drunk?
  21. Who hired Levy? Polian, right? Who hired Polian?
  22. I knew that, I think. Hence the "Razor" nickname. Oops. I'm guessing I know how you voted. Overall, though, I'm absolutely shocked to see more votes for the Fishies than the meteor. My fellow Wallers disappoint me.....
  23. Yup. Saw Aiken come in for the beginning of that one drive, and immediately yelled "C'mon Travis!" even before the ball was snapped. And if we know that......
  24. The Wire move is pretty much a given at this point, and has been ever since they sent Baker onto the field yesterday. Coy's still a great kid, a tremendous athlete, and I'm not ditching my #27 jersey, but even I can't handle watching him get toasted on a weekly basis any more. Get well soon, Lawyer. (One minor correction re:Wire, though. Baker was the one called for offsides on the FG, not CW.)
