  1. True but AJ still has to work on his gap integrity and rush lane awareness.
  2. I'd like to see the people of St. Louis made whole. They got screwed and that city should have a team. Cali fans are not as rabid as East Coast or Midwest fans but NorCal fans are considerably more rabid than SoCal fans. For better or worse, "deserving" has only to do with the degree to which a community is willing to force their politicians to build new multi-billion dollar venues. Dodgers fans are notorious for arriving late and leaving early.
  3. Spencer Brown has improved this season but I'm always concerned that he's gonna give up the big play at the worst time possible. We're very lucky that Josh is the league's best at avoiding sacks... it often seems like he sees the problem rusher, pre-snap.
  4. Hamlin started 13 games last year due to missed games from Hyde (15) and Poyer (2). Hamlin has started 0 games this year in spite of missed games from Hyde (3) and Poyer (1). Unlike last year, Hamlin is not the top reserve safety. His role on the team has been deeply reduced.
  5. For those wondering (it hasn't yet been mentioned) most of the books have the Bills as a 13 point favorite.
  6. The award is voted on by sports writers... it's not awarded by the NFL. To the bolded, not even. in 2022 he had a total of 922 snaps. This year he's had a total of 111 snaps. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HamlDa00.htm
  7. I totally agree with your opinion... I don't think he deserves the award but my blood pressure won't spike if he does.
  8. The reason Fournette played is because Ty Johnson was medically unable to play. I don't buy your theory though I think Fournette played well enough to be considered for more playing time. I would be surprised but not shocked if Fournette displaced Murray on game days. Murray is the leader in the RB Room and a respected veteran but I believe that because he's a team player he would step aside without causing a disruption. Is this a guessing game?
  9. So you click on a topic about him and post about him. Maybe next tine ignore the topic? Regardless of how you feel, this is actually an interesting conversation to many. Any particular individual come to mind? That is unclear... see below. Re your bolded ("to return to remarkable performance"), the Wiki entry includes that language but when you click on the footnote link in their bibliography that bolded language doesn't exist (here are the two links to compare): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_Comeback_Player_of_the_Year_Award https://web.archive.org/web/20100113081439/http://www.football-almanac.com/awards/NFL_Comeback_Player_of_the_Year_Award.shtml Adding to the confusion is that the award is given out by both the AP and the PFWA. The AP started voting on the award in 1963 but didn't vote on the award from 1967 to 1997 whereas the PFWA has voted on the award every year since 1972. This raises the questions, which one is "the official award" and what is the official criteria?
  10. Yes last year had lots of abnormal stuff happen too but somehow the Bills were able to keep up their winning ways until the Cinci game. I've thought this for awhile now... not to jinx it but it's felt at times like the Bills are a team of destiny.
  11. The true path is in the middle. He'll never recover his form unless he gets an appreciable amount of game snaps. Everyone's dogging Von now and based on his play, justifiably. But I'm hoping he regains the confidence to push his body to the limits soon. I believe most of what's holding him back is mental. Marshall law in combination with corporal punishment! And a big reason it was a nail biter is because Josh was not sharp. Brady wisely recognized the need to alleviate pressure from Josh... not compound it.
  12. Imagine DQ and Linval Joseph together in short yardage and goal line situations.
  13. No doubt his benching is 90% financial but also, the times I watched Russ he looked like crap and that's the other part of the story. The only time I saw him where he looked good was in the 4th quarter of the New England game. His numbers are misleading at best... he never passed the eyeball test. Russ has some nice skill position guys that he wasn't able to utilize... Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, and Jaleel McLaughlin are talented backs and Sutton, Jeudy, and Mims are talented receivers. He never established a rapport with any of these guys. Had Russ been able to assimilate into the Payton system and lead the team to the playoffs, I don't think it's a certainty that he'd be getting jettisoned. Yes he's overpaid but that's because his performance hasn't come close to his compensation. Finally Payton inherited Russ... it was clear from his early season statements that he wasn't a big fan and I thought from the start that this relationship wouldn't work out. I actually expected to see Stidham earlier than week 16. JMO.
  14. You compared Russ Wilson to Patrick Mahomes but some one else comparing Russell Wilson to Geno Smith is bizarre?
  15. It's interesting. Carroll is a defensive coach and yet he was able to create an environment where Wilson was very successful and where Geno resurrected his career. Both Carroll and McVay have somewhat rebuilt their reputations. That's a good question. The egotistic Payton is not the kind of guy who's going to build an offense around a QB... especially one who he inherited and is overpaid. Payton is gonna want to find someone to run his system. That's pretty funny. On January 27, 2022, Hackett was hired to become the head coach of the Broncos. On March 16, 2022 Wilson was acquired by the Broncos. On September 1, 2022, Wilson signed a five-year, $245 million contract extension with the Broncos. On December 26, 2022 Hackett was fired by the Broncos. On February 3, 2023, Payton was hired by the Broncos.
  16. It's still not too late for Josh to win it based on his performances in these last two weeks. Also, though I'm not a fan, Aaron Rodgers went to bat for Josh this week: https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/39187572 But it's a true description of many games this time of year where a contender plays against a team which no longer has anything to play for. How else would you characterize such games? Well played! So you're basically saying that this game is the Patriots Super Bowl. Honestly and it hasn't been talked about much. There might have been a big silver lining to Dunnegate. For one thing (though it's hard to separate from Brady's ascendence) it seems the players came out in support of McDermott based on the game results. The other possible benefit is that McDermott took the criticisms to heart and has done some soul searching.
  17. So this guy will get two weeks of evaluation so Denver gets more clarity if he's a viable developmental starter (select the Watch on Youtube option): I liked Stidham and thought the Raiders made a mistake letting him go and putting their eggs in the Jimmy G basket.
  18. Very much alive? Not really. And as others have pointed out his numbers are pretty deceiving. Russ has definitely not passed the eyeball test this year. It seems that Russ is not a good fit for Payton's offense. Drew Brees on the other hand... Payton has a big ego for sure but I wouldn't dismiss him as a football coach. He inherited Russ and gave him virtually a whole season to grow into the system. Russ has gone 1-3 in the last 4 with the playoffs in sight. During their 6 game win streak Russ didn't play that well. It was really the improvement of the defense which was the story. Let Russ stew. I thought so too. His act had worn out in Seattle and then last year's debacle with his personal trainer being in the building and high-stepping workouts in the airplane... When Payton took over you could clearly feel that Russ was on a short leash. Signing Russ was a bad move by the organization and it was a contract that Payton inherited. Denver fans were wishful that Payton could salvage Russ' career but Payton never embraced that narrative. He was lukewarm about Russ from the start. Better? Yes. Much better? Well he was horrible last year. This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yes he will. But will he be a starter? As another poster speculated he might have to settle for being a bridge starter.
  19. I moved from WNY in 2002 but I feel like any parade would be up Delaware Avenue. It's nuts that Purdy is ahead of Josh after last night's stinker. Incorrect. Correct. By virtue of Cincinnati losing, the Bills control their own destiny.
  20. That might be the case but the D is playing as well as they have all season right now. I think Poyer has bounced back a bit and both Lewis and Rapp have been better than I expected. My biggest concern on the defense is that they not incur any more injuries. I agree that long term the Bills have to successfully transition to a post-Poyer/Hyde era.
  21. I doubt he misses much time. He could be considerably less effective though.
  22. Thank you... to complete the picture: Fournette has 4 fumbles on 1449 touches which is one fumble every 362 touches. Cook has 5 fumbles on 358 touches which is one fumble every 72 touches. Put differently Cook fumbles at a rate about 5 times more than Fournette. Latavius Murray has 11 fumbles on 1798 touches which is one fumble every every 163 touches. Ty Johnson has 4 fumbles in 324 touches which is one fumble every 81 touches. James Cook's development has been one of the really nice stories of the season but he has to protect the ball better and while he's doing that, it would be nice if he cut down on his drops.
  23. The bolded above is where you and those that see merit in your idea are mistaken. There's lots of downside to your suggestion: Having a bye (not playing) is not the same thing as resting your starters. With the size of game day rosters, you are now playing starters alongside non-starters. In football where units choreograph their assignments, this can lead to lots of blown assignments and injuries. Football is not a "halfway" sport. Resting starters sends a mixed message to the team. Not going all-out to win is very problematic. IF Miami beats Baltimore there might be some benefit to resting the starters. But if week 18 is for the 2nd seed there's no decision to be made.
  24. Question: "You watch NFL games?" Josh Allen: "I watch them all." But @KDIGGZ would rather have Aaron "Ayahuasca" Rodgers as his quarterback. Who's your defensive end KDIGGS? Mark Gastineau?
  25. Exactly. This was a ridiculously easy decision for Shanahan to make. Reasons to shut Purdy down for the night: He was having the worst game of his career. The team had a 99% probability of losing. He had just gotten injured. Darnold seemed to give the team a spark. Darnold deserved a chance to show what he could do. The team needed to take the opportunity to evaluate what they have in Darnold. There was no good reason to risk further injury to Purdy... to either his body or his psyche. Reasons to allow Purdy to continue playing: He threw 4 ints but none of them were his fault? Okilies...
