The Chiefs had only scored 30 once in regulation all season. So, yes, letting them score 32 is hardly impressive. Whereas the Chiefs have only allowed one team to score more than 27 on them in the same time period, excluding the week 18 backup blowout. And the majority of those points were Josh making superb plays with very little support mainly, as you say, down to play calls but also execution.
-
The defense made key stops when needed. What did the Bills defense do? Like when they had the chance to get the offense off the field on three and out at the end? The game wasn't necessarily over on the Kincaid drop until the Chiefs exposed the weaknesses once again, like they have done before. Like so many teams have before. I do think Josh is partially responsible for yesterday. He wasn't at his very best, but it's hard to be against a defense as strong as the Chiefs. The fact the Bills got to 29 has a lot to do with him; most other teams would have been blown out on yesterday's performance on defense and offense. And that's why I believe he should be near the bottom of the list when it comes to blame.

Josh said it was on him in the interview.

Well he was running for his life because he was fooled. But... the drop is horrible from the angle. It has to be taken.

Still cracks me up that we gave Mahomes to the Chiefs

Houston because of Diggs. Yesterday because of the prize. From the second drive onwards he had settled but a lack of run game in the first half is a concern nonetheless. -
And yet it should be questioned why KC only had three. It would have been two had Mahomes not inexplicably fumbled the ball. Their defense is stronger than the Bills; faster, stronger, the O Line completely disappeared. Switch the QBs and Mahomes would have been running for his life whilst Josh would have had more time. With the closeness in the scores, I don't think it's a reach to say it would be Josh going to the SB with the Chiefs and Mahomes sitting at home.

Reid eased Mahomes into the game with easy passes and a run game. Where was it with Josh? I can only think Cook had an injury issue, the lack of use last night. He was toasting them when he had the chance. -
In all seriousness, I think Josh was good enough last night, excluding the opening drive. I acknowledge he came out badly, and it was a shame because I thought that had been sorted. But at the same time, there was no run game or easy pass to help settle him (see the start of the Chiefs first drive to assist Mahomes). The run game didn't make a true appearance until the third quarter. Question one, where as it, followed by... why persist with the QB sneaks? But he did enough to move the chains. He did enough to win. Opposite a far better defense than Mahomes was facing. With far fewer options than Mahomes had. He got us within three. If Kincaid or Samuel could catch, maybe things would be different. Was he at his best? No. Did he play well enough to win considering the inbalance on both sides of the ball? Yes. How often do we see QBs play at their very best against this Chiefs defense?
-
OK. So Josh was good and got the Bills to within three. If he was great, they would have one by at least a score then. If he was MVP level it would have been a blow out. 50-32 maybe. If only.
-
To be honest it's the response of fans who are laying it at Josh's door which make me want him to be traded. If we can't be grateful to have one of the best QBs in the game, and who hardly let the team down yesterday, then send him to a franchise who would be.

So Josh was average yet got the Bills to within three? If he was good, they would have one by at least a score then. If he was MVP level it would have been a blow out. 50-32 maybe. If only.

I was trying to draw up a reply but you did it for me. Does anyone honestly think Josh would have looked so flustered against the Bills defense? And vice versa. As you say, when Mahomes was put under pressure he looked anything but cool. -
Josh was bad on the opening drive. After that he played more than well enough to win. Unfortunately the other things you mentioned conspired against him and the Bills. You also forgot the drops - Kincaid two and Samuel one.

We'd probably be talking about Mahomes in the same way we're talking about Josh right now. Future HoF QB but the team cannot get over the line. Would things be that different if the Chiefs then positioned themselves to take Josh the following the year? With him having Reid instead of McD, Spags and Chris Jones instead of Frasier/Babbich and the ever injured Milano? Mahomes being called on during his first season rather than being able to sit behind and learn from Alex Smith? I grudgingly admit Mahomes' key strength over Josh is mental strength. I thought he had sorted it out but the opening drive last night indicated otherwise, albeit not helped by playcalls. But I don't think the difference is that stark that switching the QBs would be enough to get the Bills to one SB, let alone four. -
The stubbornness to continually run the QB sneak....

Especially as the officials were short spotting the ball all night and everyone should know the Bills were not going to get any favors. -
As he was earlier in the game, to Coleman. The immediate response in the GDT was "Why are we throwing behind the sticks?"

I agree. I think the issue was Jones was that side, and it would have left the ball less protected than going to the left. -

If so, it's up to the coaches to pull him up on it if it's not working. Pull rank. Call another play. Do you honestly think Reid would have allowed that to happen? Sneak after sneak, failing time and time again? -
If Allen asks for a new staff he should get it.

Unless Josh is traded. That seals it. The Bills should go all out to get Zac Taylor. What could go wrong? -
Bull. Partially on Josh, I accept, but not all. Low or not, it was still a catchable ball. I said it at the time, and will say it again, it was akin to Jackson to Andrews last week. The ball wasn't in the sweet spot, the receiver had to adapt but still should have come up with it. At lot is being made of this one, but didn't Kincaid also drop one, may have also been that drive? I thought he had to reach slightly (it had to be high to avoid a Chiefs player) but it was also catchable. As I said before, it can almost be guaranteed the likes of Kelce, Brown and Worthy would catch those kinds of balls for Mahomes and no one thinks anything more of it. The darts to Hollins yesterday were supreme throws but not the easiest of catches, yet he made them. As said on this thread or elsewhere, Daniels had at least five off throws yesterday yet his receivers made something of them. It cannot and should not be all on one man. And, along with the usual awful play off defense, a key reason the Bills are out is because they abandoned the running game for too long. Too much was placed in Josh's hands, and Cook was used sparingly.

Thank you. I appreciate they come as a pair, but if there is anyway Pegula lets Beane go but holds on to McDermott - is there anyone in the league who you would rate as a good replacement, and would be available/happy to come here?
-
Thank you. But wouldn't McDermott have a say on who to choose? Or is it all on Beane, and he basically tells McDermott to work with them? It also sounds like Coleman was chosen at Josh's insistence. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/josh-allen-pumped-bills-took-keon-coleman-qb-texted-wr-before-draft-youre-the-guy-that-i-want/ Of course, that's not to say Josh wanted him chosen ahead of Worthy, or at 33.
-
@GunnerBill - with no offence intended to anyone else, I rate you as the most knowledgeable poster on the board so would really like to know your full opinion on McDermott over Beane, as you disagreed with keeping the current GM over the HC.
-
I'd keep Beane ahead of McDermott. Decent GMs are harder to find than decent coaches - not that the latter is easy either.
