  1. His fair share of criticism on 2BD? He receivers VERY LITTLE of that on 2BD. What website are you even looking at? And he receives little to none in the media. He's just now starting to receive VERY FAIR criticism in the media by guys like Dan Orvlovsky who have always been in his corner. He and others who watch the film and actually study it see Allen's regression this season and are finally starting to call him out on it. I know Allen hears the noise and I hope he takes it to heart and continues to work to be the best version of himself. I have full confidence that he will turn this around!
  2. I don't have a personal beef with Allen at all. I've been one of his biggest supporters since he came into the league, even when a good portion of posters on this message board were ready to write him off with his 50% completion percentage his first season. I'm just saying it's okay to criticize his play. He has NOT played well this season for large portions of games and has yet to put together a great game for two halves of football (maybe you can count the Jets game where he didn't have to really throw the ball at all in the 2nd half). I love Allen, am happy as a lark he is our QB, and am fully in his corner and expect him to bounce back this Sunday when the team needs him the most. I fully admit he needs better receivers around him, a better offensive scheme, better coaching....the list goes on and on. But he is also part of the problem this year and would tell you the same thing. He has set the bar really high for himself and his play this year, so far, leaves a lot to be desired and a lot of room for improvement. I FULLY EXPECT HIM TO improve AS THE YEAR GOES ON. He has earned the benefit of the doubt!!
  3. I didn't say he sucked all game. I only said he sucked in the 1st half. He was 6-13 (46% completion) for 66 yards and was sacked twice. He also ran it one time for a 1 yard td run. What do you call that half if you refuse to say he sucked? I mean maybe you can say best case scenario it was well below average??? That's just the Panthers game. When I get more time I'll post numbers from two other horrible/sucky halves of football he's had recently as well.
  4. Who said Allen sucked in the 1st half and was great in the 2nd half? No one that I know of. I said he sucked in the 1st half but played quite a bit better in the 2nd half. It's just shocking to me the number of people who fail to admit Allen IS currently part of the problem. Regardless of the surrounding circumstances, he isn't playing good football right now and I'm quite sure he'd admit that behind closed doors as well. To answer your question, It's become comical that almost no one has the stones to ever say a bad thing about Allen. No way can the all mighty Josh Allen play poorly without it having to do with other circumstances. It's just crazy to me. I've talked to fans of other teams who have noticed that it's almost an unspoken rule, you aren't allowed to criticize Allen in the media or in public. He hasn't played good football this season. He IS NOT the biggest part of the problem but he IS a part of it. He isn't seeing the field well, he's bailing clean pockets far too quickly, and he has regressed with this footwork. Again, I'm sure he would admit that behind closed doors as well. He has proven that he is good enough to bounce back from this type of funk as he has done so many times in the past. I expect him to show up and play better Sunday.
  5. Why are you so averse at saying Allen sucked? Would you say he simply 'under performed' in the Texans game last year or would you agree he really, really sucked in that game? For what it's worth, I don't think Allen has sucked for a full game this year. But I think he certainly has sucked at times, including the great majority of the first half of the Panthers game. Just dreadful and missing open receivers. But as he normally tends to do, he bounced back in the 2nd half and played quite a bit better. Hopefully he puts together two good halves of football this Sunday, something he has not done in over a month.
  6. If you don't witness with your own eyes how poorly Allen throws the classic 'bomb' throw, I don't know what to tell you. This has been discussed on this board for years at length and it's pretty well documented and accepted that it's a very poor part of Allen's game. Even guys who study the film a lot more than I do, Joe Marino for example just this week, talked about Allen never having good touch on those bomb throws. You want to see a pretty bomb thrower who was normally really accurate with them? Look no further than prime Arron Rogers or Tom Brady. It's just not a good part of Allen's game an that's okay. No QB is great at everything and they all have their flaws.
  7. I believe he's referring to the classic 'bomb' throw, not the 20 to 30 yard frozen ropes that Josh is so good at throwing. When it comes to bombs, rainbows, balls that have to travel with some touch 35 to 50+ yards in the air, Allen has never been great at this throw. He lacks touch and would badly overthrow his receivers early in his career and now seems to underthrow them more often.
  8. They just held the Raiders to 98 total yards of offense! That's incredible defense right there. I know the Raiders are only 2-5 but still....
  9. With you 100%. If we lose to the Andy Dalton led Carolina Panthers, the season is over and things need to be blown up from the top to the bottom. That will be as rock bottom as we've seen the team since the drought era.
  10. What does Buffalo do if Palmer is out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. All of a sudden our glaring need for more talent at WR, especially on the boundary, is magnified.
  11. I agree with most of this but let's be honest, Buffalo is NOT guaranteed to make the playoffs. Maybe they turn it around like they did last year after the embarrassing losses to the Ravens and Texans, but maybe they don't. I just don't see the assets necessary to bring in a wr or a cb/safety to help boost the talent level at spots of glaring need right now. The defense can't even wrap guys up and make routine tackles right now. The hallmark of a McDermott defense, scheme over talent, everyone acting as a unit and doing their job, and absolutely taking care of the basics like flying to the ball carrier and making the tackle....these things are are just not there right now and I don't know if the team has it in them to flip a switch and get it back on track. We'll know a lot more about the trajectory of the season in two weeks with a gut check game at the all of a sudden surging Carolina Panthers. Lose that game and things will get ugly real quick....
  12. agree with this 100%. unfortunately it's a little hard to do that when a team is up against the cap like the Bills are. But people like to say the cap isn't real and can always be manipulated, so maybe??
  13. Some people will defend Allen as if he pays their mortgage. He is a great QB and we are lucky to have him. But he makes mistakes sometimes and he does seem to have a proclivity for making them in high leverage moments. Love him to death and he isn't the only reason for the loss. But he definitely was a big contributor last night.
  14. Josh Allen played a poor game. He didn't make great decisions in high leverage moments last night. It happens. I fully expect him to bounce back next week. Even the greats have bad games from time to time. No one is saying Buffalo lost the game because Allen didn't play well. He is not the only reason for the loss. But people need to grow a bit thicker skin when it comes to Allen. He isn't perfect and he does make mistakes like everyone else does.
  15. I don't have access to the ALL-22 film and I'm not going to go back and re-watch the entire game again just to give you examples. I know what I saw from watching with my own eyes. Collinsworth mentioned on 3 or 4 occasions that Allen seemed to be bailing from clean pockets, and Joe Marino who does have access to all-22 made mention of it several times on his podcast this morning. It's okay to admit Allen didn't play up to his standards. I would expect him to say the same thing if asked.
  16. People who criticize Allen for having an off night are no different from people saying Allen can do no wrong. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Allen had some really nice throws last night and extended some plays and kept drives alive with his legs. I don't think his recovers did him a lot of favors either. However, he bailed from clean pockets several times, threw the bad red zone interception, and clearly made the wrong decision to keep the ball on the read option that surly looks like would have been a walk in TD for Johnson. By Allen's standards, he had a sub par night and I think the film is going to support that as well.
  17. Most Definitely not a good game overall by Allen and well below his standard. I think the film will show that as well. At least to me, it almost seems like he is so used to his receivers not gaining any separation once he gets to the top of his drop, he knows he most likely will have to hold the ball and wait for someone to 'get open'. He had happy feet last night and bailed way too early multiple times. Poor play by Allen but I get it. No one is getting open off the line and he's having to buy time for any little bit of separation and he's pressing because of that and bailing early. I think Allen has to shoulder part of the blame from last night as do the receivers.
  18. The Panthers, as a team, averaged 5.64 yards per carry against New England which is a GREAT rushing average. Some context here will help. The Panthers were down by multiple scores at halftime and largely abandoned the run in the 2nd half. The Steelers had 53 rushing yards against the Jets, 72 against the Seahawks, 64 against the Patriots, and 131 against the Vikings. The ONLY team not to go over 100 rushing yards against the Vikings was the Bengals who fell into an early hole and was forced to abandoned the run early. That's all to say the Steelers do not have a good running game so far this season. A little context goes a long ways sometimes Any given Sunday applies to every game. Of course the Patriots could come into Buffalo Sunday night and walk away with a win. Absolutely they can. But this air of being overly confident right now after only being a play or two away from being 1-3 is baffling to me. I hope the entire team walks into Highmark with as much bravado as most of their fans seem to have right now. Humble pie is ready to be served piping hot!
  19. Through the 1st 4 games of the season Maye is tied for 3rd for most QB sacks taken at over 3 per game. I know he likes to scramble and extend plays like Josh does but he also will hold on to the ball waiting for a deep shot to come open while hanging in the pocket. Opportunities for sacks will be there.
  20. It sounds like we're supposed to get blown out on Sunday. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for what is to come. Does anyone actually think we have even a 5 to 10% chance of pulling off later home upsets vs the Chiefs, Bucs, and Eagles? We still have a decent chance to sneak into the playoffs as a wild card team after the Patriots win the division, right??
  21. I really hope news of this thread makes it to the Bills lockerroom! The players and coaches need to know how dangerous the Patriots are and that we will be lucky to win this one at home. Does anyone know McDermott's email address?
