  1. http://www.cnn.com/cnnsi/2006/football/nfl...n.ap/index.html Living in New York, if the Bills were playing the Jets, and I came to work in a McGee jersey, I'd likely be fired for violating the dress code. But if I could wear a jersey, I'd be willing to take my lumps, I mean, that's half the fun of wearing a rival jersey, you get people riled up.
  2. Are any pages sponsored? Belichick wasn't, Favre wasn't...
  3. You can make some people happy, all of the time, or all of the people happy some of the time, but you can't make all the people happy, all the time. You can, however, make all the people unhappy all of the time.
  4. Well, if we go 0-16 with Mary Kate and Ashley at the coordinators, we get the #1 pick in the draft! Wohoo!
  5. I was only 7, but I remember watching NFL Primetime after the game, and after the Raiders kicked their figgie, Berman said "And it's good! The Raiders have cut the lead to 7-3. But if you were a Raiders fan that was....it."
  6. As assistant HC, is he available to us?
  7. How and where do I sign up for V Coach, anyway?
  8. For all that spending, this was the Redskins first winning season since 1999. A win last year against the Steelers could have gotten the Bills to a similar place. They look pretty good for next year IF Brunell stays healthy - they made a big trade for a risky Jason Campbell and Patrick Ramsey makes JP look good. In recent years, they've gotten starts from Rob Johnson and Tim Hasselbeck. Ugh. They've done a solid job this year, but they really might have just gotten lucky - I'll wait a little while before heaping too much on Dan Snyder. And this is all beside the point about how damaging he is for football, trying to push out small-market teams.
  9. Seems like they're reaching, though...if they wanted Sherman, they would have stopped by now. Seems they're still digging.
  10. DC candidates out there right now: Jim Bates, Dick Jauron, Donnie Henderson, Dom Capers, Jim Haslett OC candidates: Mike Martz, Mike Tice, potentially Heimerdinger if Mangini doesn't retain him... I haven't heard many more names thrown out there than these - any choice picks?
  11. Rivera might be the real deal - probably the best D coordinator out there looking for a job right now.
  12. What happened to their old OC?
  13. Is "Juron" a nickname or something that I don't get? It seems like everyone spells his name that way today.
  14. Good move, wrong organization. He'll be on the market by the next time we're looking for a coach, I think it'd be a good hire.
  15. Playing devil's advocate: Brett Favre vs. Shane Matthews, Cade McNown, Jim Miller, Kordell Stewart, Chris Chandler, Henry Burris and Rex Grossman.
  16. Sorry, what the hell did this report say?
  17. Yeah, but the Saban run wasn't anything special either. It was preceded by a 22-0 (0!) loss to the Browns, then the hapless Raiders, um, us, The Chargers (quality win), the Jets, Tennessee, and New England behind Matt Cassels. And four of those games were within 4 points. It's a good first year, but it's not better than Mularkey's. We'll see how he does in the fall.
  18. That's just raw speculation...something to make the story "Jauron had an interview" more interesting. This is not, unfortunately, not say that they won't hire him.
  19. I've had London Pride and Bombadier, they're both "hand-pulled ales", aren't they? I don't know, maybe it's an acquired taste.
  20. Saying we do hire Haslett, is there any reason that we wouldn't pay him a salary of $1 for his first year, then whatever we can negotiate out between us? I mean, unless he's demanding more than that $3.3-$3.7 million, why don't we just let that money come from Benson?

  22. I forgot to mention Mike Sherman. He is significantly better than the rest of the lot, but he had #4 the whole time, and when he went bad, the team couldn't play it's way out of a box.
  23. I know we're all frustrated with first time coaches, but these three bums aren't the way to solve that mess. Why in the hell would we want a coach who's been *less* successful than Mike Mularkey? Capers has one winning season in his entire career, and went 7-9 and 2-14 in seasons where MM put up 9-7 and 5-11 records. Haslett hasn't had a playoff season since his first, and also posted worse records than Mularkey in 2004 and 2005 (8-8, 3-13). He probably deserves a pass for 2005, but they embarassed themselves this year, bad. Mediocrity, plain and simple. Fassel had his Super Bowl run, but it seems like the real success story there was John Fox. The team only had one playoff appearance after he left, that embarassment vs. the 49ers. After that, they went 4-12, losing eight straight games. Other than 24 points in their last game that season, they were held under 14 for the rest of that stretch. They quit on him, and that's the last thing we want. Meanwhile, Fassel went on to be the OC for the Ravens, who despite having a great offensive line and a top-shelf receiver in Derrick Mason and a great tight end in Todd Heap, totally crapped the bed in 2005. Fired coaches have been fired for a reason. The only hope is to drag someone out of retirement (Dick Vermeil's made noises, and there's always the puker of Jimmy Johnson.) We don't want someone else's trash.
  24. What's with all the love for Haslett, Capers, Sherman, and the rest of the Washed Out Crew? It's one thing if it's the case of a younger coach who has to go back and study for a little bit longer (Belichick, potentially Williams) or a coach who has truly been fired unfairly from his last job after a long pattern of success (Coughlin), but the coaches that we've missed during the Williams and Mularkey hirings have been top-flight coordinators. Lovie Smith, Marvin Lewis, John Fox. The best veteran coaches out there are usually only to be called out of retirement: in this case, Dick Vermeil.
