The National FIXED League
Long Suffering Fan replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure, but in real time it is actually pretty close...and they have not been calling it all game. It is like they say, you can call holding on every play - meaning that there is definitely holding going on in every play, but they don't call it. They only call the most egregious ones. That is why it is next level ridiculous when they say - oh, that was definitely holding. By the written rules, sure, but by the way they call the game, no. Especially the way that they called that game. And the Taron Johnson one was the definition of ticky tack. -
That's the rule, if there is more than one person in motion, you have to come set - nobody moving - for a full second before you snap the ball, or even put someone else in motion. This is the cause of some of the illegal procedure penalties you see called - only one guy is in motion at the snap, but they had multiple people in motion before that and did not get set for a second.

Myles Garrett broke the sack record...but not really...

No disrespect to Deacon Jones - in general, I tend to give more credit to the older generation of players who did what they did without knowing what we know now about nutrition, weights, etc. - but it was literally legal for him to hit his blocker in the head as hard as he could at the start of each play. -
Best memory of a defensive pick six

This. I love this 7 minutes of video coverage on it from Turning Point. I probably watch it once a year. -
Okay, you can pass protocol, fine. I don't get why the concussion spotter didn't call down every time his head bounced off the turf like a basketball. It seems like he was evaluated only one time. Yet, it is very obvious that his head is smacking the turf, he is getting up holding his head, and he is coming off a concussion.

Time to Retire Mr Briteside

Yeah, but they changed their tune (see what I did there?) when they actually got old. I'm talking about this generation. -

Crabby old man, back in the day, rant - ON Aside from the lyrics of the song being stupid and depressing, this anthem of a generation stuff is...something. While it might actually fit this generation - I'll let others judge - playing it for a football game is crazy. American Pie was an anthem for my generation. It is by every metric a vastly superior song to Mr. Brightside. We would gather with arms around each other and sing it in a circle on the dance floor. It meant something to us in a way that was undefined and went far beyond the actual words of the song. But we would have never played it to get ourselves psyched up in the 4th quarter of a football game! And get your dog off my lawn. Crabby old man, back in the day, rant - OFF -
This is a terribly heartless thing to say, but I view guys like him, Samuel, and even Cooks as lottery tickets. They have shown flashes in the past, will they blossom here? Who knows. I'm never mad when we sign them (and I was actually cautiously optimistic about Samuel). If they don't pan out, it is time to move on. You don't keep lottery tickets that don't win. Of course, it is a valid argument that we shouldn't be in such desperate straights that our strategy appears to be lottery tickets. The fan in me says...maybe one of them will hit.

Agee that coaching is the problem - play calls, being coached to finish plays, etc. Disagree about Keon being the most talented. He can't get separation.

Dawkins giving up on blocks
Long Suffering Fan replied to Uncle Monkeyhead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, I noticed that too. Here is what makes it worse. Allen is amazing at avoiding the first rusher...if there is only one rusher getting through. What is much harder is avoiding that first guy and, because someone else begins to ease up on a block, there is no where to go. You don't even have to give up on the block completely for this to be a problem. You just have to lose a little intensity. Finishing your blocks should not be just for run plays. Stay engaged/connected to your man. You know Josh can scramble so your job is not done when you stop the initial rush. Make the guy work hard to get off your block before he can chase Allen. -
For those who are saying that rest does not matter, they get plenty of rest, etc., remember McDermott is 9-0 playing games off a bye week. His teams do better with more time to prepare. Yes, we should not use it as an excuse and we should still beat bad teams, but it does matter. If the Bills had the bye week before the next Patriots game instead of the other way around, I know I would feel like that was an advantage.

Survivor Pool Week 11.......Who Ya Got????
Long Suffering Fan replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
This was my exact line of thinking. Thursday night, when I saw how Denver was playing, I was pleased that I had switched to Carolina...then they ended up winning anyway and Carolina lost to the Aints. -
Is he really that undersized? He is 6'4" and 240lbs. That is about the same size as Brock Bowers, George Kittle, Sam LaPorta, Trey McBride, and David Njoku. Pass catching TEs mostly seem to fall in the 240s. Of course, he is not as big as Kelce or Hock. Also, it is not like his size is what caused his hamstring injury. I'm frustrated with the game and with the injury too, but that's because Kincaid is good.
