Why do so many people say McConkey has a high floor? He has injury concerns, production concerns and size concerns. I dont see that as high floor. I could see him barely seeing the field in the NFL. Maybe I am wrong on him, just never been impressed. Seems like a solid dude that works hard but not a guy that will translate to the nfl unless in the right system.

I see a lot of Copper Kupp in McConkey.  They play very similar games.

I had heard about needing to control the diabetes. I wonder how closely related the behavior issues are, and how much is it a convenient excuse. If that is “all it is”, I’m a bit less concerned.

From my understanding, he doesn't take diabetes seriously.  Kind of in denial one may say.  Changing a mindset like that may be more difficult to deal with.

I wish I knew more about the AD Mitchell “character issues”. Purely based on play I think he’d be my choice, but I’d have to know more about the person.

If that’s a deal killer, then Franklin.

A Steeler's source before the draft was saying that he didn't take care of his diabetes which would cause him to not pay attention in meetings and not know the game plan or play book.

He also has mentioned about not running routes at full speed and it definitely shows on film where he is a little off on where the ball ended up.

We have Shakir and Samuel. I dont think the WR gets better with McConkey. We need Mitchell, Polk or Franklin .

McConkey plays a bit different than both these guys.  I personally would rather partner McConkey with Baker.  Baker is one of the best deep ball guys in the draft.  I would even take a flyer on Burton with all these picks we have.

I like this idea. #33, I'd get Coleman first. At #39, I'd have my choice between Franklin or Mitchell. Say what y'all want about Coleman, he's a playmaker. Mitchell/Franklin can be my outside speed guy.

Another option would be Washington.  They have 2 seconds, and 3 thirds.  They may not mind dropping back to 60 from 36 or 40, to get a pick for next year.  They then could move back up from 60 by using one of their 3rds.

Every year there seems to be a massive run on WR in the 30s-50s.  I don't think we can wait till 60 to take one.

If we stick at 33, guessing it's DeJean.  I have him ranked #19 in the draft and he screams McDermott.  2 things I could see happening:

    #33 DeJean

#45 (trade up from 60 using 2 of our 5ths) Franklin (I think he may last to 60 and the Bills spent more pre-draft time with him than anybody else)

#95 Baker or Burton (off field isses with Burton but the talent is very high)

    #33 DeJean

    #60 Baker

    #95 Burton/McCallister/Rice

I think you are spot on.  I think they take Cooper and trade up from 60 to take Franklin.  I think they have wanted Franklin for months now.  I also think they will take another WR in 3rd, probably moving up again.

5th year options are calculated for each position using salaries at that position.

There is less variance between safety positions, meaning they don't have the mega highs to bring up the avg.  So essentially, the 5th year option is probably going to be more than what you would give a safety, unless the Safety will be the top 2 paid in the entire NFL.

So what I mean, right now a safety with 2 pro bowls from the 2021 draft that meets the playing time would be getting 17.12 million.  A WR on the other hand would be getting 21.82 million.  A WR with 2 pro bowls will get more like 31-32 million a year.  So you would save close to 10 million on the 5th year option.  Derwin James is the top paid safety at 19 million.  The 5th year option is saving you less than 2 million.

Odunze may have the character the Bills look for in players but I just don’t see the elite talent from him. I have to think this guy falls outside the top 10 and don’t see him in the same tier as Nabers and Harrison. He had tons of targets in his offense to rack up stats and high volume does not necessarily equal elite. I struggled to see what elite skills as a wr he brings to the table. Often very little separation from defenders leading to having tons of contested catch opportunities. I just don’t see any elite burst/explosion from this guy and it shows up in his inability to separate in his routes and run away from defenders when he has the ball. His jumping ability in contested catches seems average, certainly nothing special. Hands are good but not great as there were many dropped passes on tape. No real elusiveness when ball in his hands and he had several fumbles. Speed, burst, body control, route running, hands, vertical, elusiveness all seem to be just good but nothing jumps out at me.

I would absolutely hate to trade up near top 10 for Rome. A player like Chase took me 2 games to watch and be able to see the elite explosion, speed, body control. Not a big fan of trading up unless for a qb but if so, wr has to clearly portray elite traits to make his ceiling worth it. Should not give up picks just because he has a low floor.

I think Thomas and Franklin are actually better players/prospects than Odunze. They both display elite speed on the field and the ability to separate from defenders. I’d much prefer those options and Franklin can probably be had sitting at 28. I really don’t see much of a difference in overall talent between Polk and Odunze. I like Polk a lot as a 2nd or 3rd round player and I would feel the same if Odunze were to be drafted in the early to mid second.

Very well said.  Don't forget to mention he played with an elite play caller and an elite long ball QB.  Allen isn't in the same tier as Penix with the deep ball.  Odunze also got to play with Polk and McMillian, two very good WRs.

I also can't get his last game out of my head, where he was wide opened, turned the wrong way and dropped the ball.  Reminded me of Gabe Davis.

Much tougher jamming a guy on the move.  Dolphins started it last season, and others were using it by the end of the season.  Just put the guy they want to jam off the line and let him take off laterally before the snap.  All of a sudden, the jam gets really difficult, and if you miss, you man is running free in the defensive backfield.

I completely agree with you there, however, going in motion and creating separation is not as easy as it sounds.  You need to have elite ability to change direction at the same speed which your running, the reason why Hill is so good.  The WR is running horizontal across the line, if they can't change direction on a dime, the CB will have zero issue staying with the WR.

Hardest players to jam are small quick guys. Easiest are big guys.

Its not about size and strength, its about technique and understanding what the defense is trying to do.

If a defender misses on a jam, thats on the defender, not the offensive player being too quick.  These rules now days allow the defender to literally be right at the line and to mug the crap out the player for 5 yards.  Try jamming DK vs jamming Chase.  Much tougher to do anything to alter DK than Chase.
