Yeah, I made a post responding to someone else where I felt bad reading it like I'm dunking on Spector. He came in in a tough spot against an offense that relies on motion and misdirection, and he did OK and yeah, you may be correct that he got better as the game went on. (I was responding to a chap who claimed Spector played better than Bernard has. No. No, he did not)
-
Read some of the stuff other people have posted. There were plays Spector messed up on - took the wrong assignment himself after the snap. He was slow to make the read and the call. It's not that Bernard stood out making "splash plays", it's that he makes the right decisions and gets the D in the right place to be effective. I wasn't impressed with Deion in preseason and I had such hopes for him, too. I think you can count on it the Beane Team is gonna be spinning the rolodex and burning up the phone lines this weekend, to backfill on PS if nothing else. I think we need to wait on news about how serious Bernard's injury is, though.

Week 2 - Bills at Fins - Post game thread
Beck Water replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ten quick points after the game: 1) BILLS WIN! Can't say anything sweeter than that 2) Happy Birthday To Me (was yesterday, but I'll take this as a nice belated present) 3) Ladies and Gentlemen....tread softly now BUT THE BILLS SEEM TO HAVE A PASS RUSH! Under pressure dum du da dum da! 4) Let James Cook!!!! 5) Along with that pass rush...WE SEEM TO HAVE A RUN GAME! Concerns: 6) Allen gave me heart palpitations with a couple of those throws late in the game. It's hard to argue with 68% completion, but he really does need to throw it away or eat it at times. We're lucking *****y we didn't have some picks. Yeah, push it but "know when to say when". I hope they read him the riot act in the film room.... 7) ....though Allen IS a mother*****in' One Man Riot. OMG the athleticism of that man - elevates right over the Dolphins bench AND the trashcan behind it! My heart! 8) I saw so many guys reading wrong and miscues on our D (yeah, even me, even on the televised broadcast). Hopefully we can continue to improve week to week. And even so, we had enough ..... in part because WE SEEM TO HAVE A PASS RUSH! 9) WTF was it with our players slipping and sliding all over the place out there? The Dolphins didn't seem to be having as much problem. I saw Cam Lewis slip and fall on his ass on that Achane TD, other defenders as well. Do our equipment guys need to go to Cleat School or lay in a different set of cleats, or do we need to spray down our practice field so our players get used to it or what? And finally: 10) Love Poyer but he's no longer "All Pro Po", made me a bit verklempt even though it's good for our team I think Bass was kind of a "slip sliding away" victim on that late miss Two words: Pass Rush. They were not expecting what they got from us. And even so Tua hit the hot read and they broke contain on us what, half a dozen times? Then we adjusted to that and Tua had to start running, which was.....Not a good idea. -
There are teams and schemes where McDermott has not, historically, "had their number" However, with McDaniel (and if I'm not mistaken, other Shanahan tree coaches), McDermott seems to be channeling a little "Tommy TuTone" I think what impressed me the most was how many mistakes and miscues I saw (yeah, even me) from the defense on broadcast TV and yet....

Are you naturally this much of a douchenozzle or is this the result of regular, extensive, and meticulous practice? No one minds if you make the point that small players who are playing at the high end of their physical capabilities all the time get hurt more than larger-framed players, but coming in a thread about an injury just happened to "count coup" and claim prescience is the worst of crap taste.
-
I mean, that is what the Dolphins do. Lots of eye candy, lots of misdirection. Seeing it on film is one thing, seeing it when you're responsible for the calls is bound to be a learning curve. No. No, Spector did not look better than Bernard.
-
That would likely be why they have Nicholas Morrow on the roster But let's wait a minute and see what the injury and its timeline actually is.

9/12/24 GAMDAY Bills at Dolphins TNF PREGAME THREAD
Beck Water replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Now that's the kind of football talk I wanna see For now, I'm cool with Keon just focusing on catching the ball and putting it away. He doesn't need to be re-adjusting his feet as he's catching it. Just catch the ball. -

Von Miller proves the doubters wrong
Beck Water replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I felt positive about his game - But It's One Game. We need him to string together 16 more regular season, and then hopefully Playoffs -
I think the 49'ers have a Purdy good QB
-
No, technically it's not, but practically.... ....2 point conversions have a 49.4% success rate. And the 9'ers get a chance to eat clock in between Those 3 points make it a difference between 2 TD plus a normal kick win it, to needing 2 TD plus 2 2pt conversions - big change in the odds
-
But they pretty much ended the game anyway. 16 point game. Jets need 2 TD and 2 2-pt conversions to tie, while in the middle there the 9ers get a chance to eat clock. Theoretically, it could happen, but Rodgers would need a lucky horseshoe wedged up his ass for reals.
-
OK, so the 9'ers took the safe play of kicking the FG and making it a 3 score game. Can't fault that, but it's disappointing to get to the 5 yd line and settle for 3

Actually this isn't correct. Poyer was out, and we had Rapp and Hyde as the safeties. Yes, we had Tre, who was injured about 2/3 of the way through the game, but he was paired with Dane Jackson. IMHO Douglas/Benford is a better pairing than White/Jackson and certainly than Benford/Jackson. We did have Bernard and Milano as our LBs though and Taron Johnson as our nickel On the other hand, in the close, we-shoulda-won-it 2022 "Heat Stroke" game, we had Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin at safety, Tim Settle and Brandon Bryant at 1TDT, and Kaiir Elam with Benford then Ingram at CB -
You really better bite your damned tongue and go take a look at the depth chart before you wish harm on those guys. You really wanna see Baylon Spector trying to play for Matt Milano? Seriously?

Why the personal foul on Kyler Murray Slide happened.
Beck Water replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
This. When you got a guy who will stiff-arm onrushing defenders and turn into a runner (then hurdle defenders), the refs keep their laundry to themselves. -

I mean, you're not wrong, but I thought we got some "make up" non-calls as well -
With anyone else, I would say "that's nuts" but Allen has demonstrated amazing body control and body awareness time after time
-
Thing is, he had a really good pre-season so we thought he may have worked his way up the depth chart. But it looks as though his place on the depth chart is backup Outside DB, whereas they are seeing Ingram as more versatile - able to play dime, nickel etc and, in fact, used him in that role. It could be that if Elam masters outside corner, they will start working him in at nickel or dime, but here's my issue with that: to play in the box, smaller guys have to really be willing to hit hard. The "F = ma" equation means, less mass, need more acceleration to get 'er done. Elam just doesn't seem like that guy who is willing to sacrifice his body to tackle Derrick Henry or similar This is it, with the added proviso that it may be, as others have said, that when Ingram came in, he played nickel while Lewis played dime. Either way, your point stands - Elam has not been getting any looks at nickel or dime. Set the kid up for success, don't throw him in the blender and watch him whirl

Montgomery was a Force indeed. Agreed it can’t be written off as bad run D
