  1. Well, since that was a factor both in the Bengals debacle and the loss to the Jets....maybe the receivers need to be practicing their catching skills with wet footballs and a juggs.
  2. I hope you're right, and certainly the contract the Bills offered him makes it clear they think he's got more to offer there than McKenzie did. But the problem we've historically faced with smurf players who have better skills than most opponents, is that when it comes to playoff football where the refs put their whistles away and "let the players play" (aka let the DBs mug the WR) they get neutralized. Early reports are that Sherfield is playing gunner on ST opposite Neal. The question with Sherfield isn't "is he a game changer on offense?" but "has he shown himself to be a better offensive contributor - a better WR - than Kumerow was?" The answer is pretty clearly "yes. Yes, he has."
  3. I think if you could combine Benford and Elam you'd have a heckuva player. Elam is still getting "lost in space" in zone coverage. He's still thinking about it and not just see-and-react, it makes him a step slow. He can man up though. Benford has the zone coverage down. He understands what he's supposed to do and when and why. He's got "zone eyes" (so does Dane). But he's not gonna win against the top receivers in man coverage.
  4. I don't think Kincaid will have the blocking chops to act as a fullback, not first thing as a rookie, anyway. JMO based on scouting reports pre-draft. If he learns to release off the line against press man and outfight physical NFL play as a receiver, that will be enough.
  5. I mean yes, but during the days when the Bills WR were John Brown, Cole Beasley, and Isaiah McKenzie, physical press man teams just mugged them in press man, and took them away. A small guy can play bigger than his size, and a big guy won't necessarily play physically enough, but other things being equal, size does matter.*** ***obligatory "That's What She Said"
  6. This is contradictory. "(Dorian) Williams with the 3s" from Brown; Dorian Rapp and Bernard with the ones from Buffalo Fanatics.
  7. LOL What, you don't believe Stefon when he tilts his handsome 'lil head to the side and tells the media "I missed you"?
  8. I gotta find the rest of this interview and listen 👀🍿 Wow. Just....Wow. I guess when you're Sean Payton, you aren't too worried about burning bridges in the "small world" of the NFL.
  9. I mean what, do you want them to hand Elam the job if he isn't progressing in understanding his role and how to defend in a zone defense well enough? Reports from camp yesterday was that he was giving up receptions in coverage, while running with the 2's. People have a Jones here talking about how McDermott won't play rookies (or young players) for mysterious reasons even though the poor trodden upon rookies are so much better than the guy who is out there. News flash, when rookies have been better than the alternative, they've played. Tre White: 16 starts as a rookie. Dion Dawkins: 11 starts as a rookie Zay Jones: 10 starts as a rookie (no, he wasn't good, but he was better than the alternative) Tre Edmunds: 15 games as a rookie (again, made mistakes, but better than the alternative) Ed Oliver: 7 starts as a rookie, including being benched for a few games. Phillips was better. Cody Ford: 15 starts as a rookie As a team overall improves, and is more attractive to FA, it becomes harder and harder for a rookie to be "better than the alternative" But the truth is, rookies get playing time if they deserve it by being better than the alternative, and lose playing time if they don't. And deserving isn't limited to a few good plays fans see, it means understanding the play call and their role and being in the right place doing the right thing every play.
  10. It's raining, it's pouring
  11. OK, this issue is settled. So, that's how we came to have a TikTok of Stefon Diggs dancing in the streets with a group of young Orthodox Jewish guys. Overall, pretty cool story. Question: is there such a thing as a non-Kosher campfire?
  12. Does anyone know what the blue object Diggs is holding in his had might be? He had one in his hand as he came out of the tunnel yesterday, as well.
  13. And here we go with "JPAFootball" citing "ProFootballTalk" as a source instead of independently verifying the situation or keeping quiet. It is contractual that in the case of a "non football injury", the team is not obligated to pay salary for the lost season, although they can, and sometimes do (it counts against the cap if they do). I'm not sure where the stuff about "could possibly even owe the Bills money back" comes from. No examples of other cases where this occurred have been given and it's stated as hypothetical.
  14. So I know Mike Florio is a polarizing guy, but I think when he cites "sources" he probably has them. According to what Florio says, the Bills are playing hardball with Hines contract https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nyheim-hines-bills-at-odds-over-financial-consequences-of-his-non-football-injury Some of what Florio says about the Bills pursing the signing bonus paid by the Colts seems bizarro land, though.
  15. This seems like a weird response to me. Where did anyone say anything about Diggs (or anyone) "hurting Josh Allen's feelings"? You expressed concern about Josh Allen sitting there looking like his dog died. I pointed out that we've seen that look in other top QB - Burrow, Mahomes - when their team is getting its butt whipped, and that it's an awful feeling for a competitive athlete to know they're getting physically beaten and don't have the chops at that moment to change it. That doesn't have to do with getting your feelings hurt by someone. As Josh Allen attributes to his college coach, "Football is a man whupping man game". Getting whupped does not feel good. However, that said, there are constructive/helpful and unconstructive ways for teammates and coaches to try to change the momentum. And Diggs standing there yelling at Allen while he's sitting with his QB coach trying to diagnose plays on his Surface is not constructive. It has nothing to do with Diggs hurting his feelings, and everything to do with, it's just not useful.
  16. That's not at all my memory of what happened with Spencer Brown, so I actually looked it up. It's true that Brown saw a few snaps on ST - 25%-ish- to start the season But the OL that started the season in 2021 wasn't getting it done. Darryl Williams was not looking good at RT. Cody Ford was looking worse at RG. Feliciano wasn't looking like "all that" at LG, then was injured and "out" going into Game 4. So the team started Boettger at LG, slid Williams inside to RG, and started Brown at RT in Game 4. And the R side of the line looked better, so they kept it that way (Feliciano got his job back until he was injured) Brown only played 3 games before sustaining a back injury that kept him out 2 games, played a game, missed two more, then played the rest of the season.
  17. Subscription, but good article from Joe B in The Athletic. Some concerning inaccuracy from Allen. . Joe B attributes this to "slight rust" and points out that offense is often behind defense at the start of camp. A couple other interesting points. On Benford/Elam, Joe feels Elam needs to step up his game: Joe also liked some of what he saw from 2015 1st round pick and 2 season CFL player Shane Ray. I'm kinda skeptical - it's a tough break that he had torn ligaments and needed surgery and maybe tried to come back too soon, and it's a tough break he ended his Argonauts season with a torn bicep, but that's A Lot to come back from at age 30.
  18. I mean, would you honestly try to defend that split between the way Diggs was behaving (gesticulating and yelling at Allen on the bench while Allen is trying to look at stills, storming out of the tunnel without gathering with the team) vs. "good little soldiers stone faced on the sideline"? Seems to me there's a lot of space in between. One of the worst things for any athlete is knowing that he's getting beaten and he can't do anything about it, because physically he's lacking the chops. It must be unimaginably worse for an elite athlete playing at the highest level. That seems to be a very hard thing to change around during a game. We saw that same thousand-mile "dog just died" stare out of Joe Burrow, by the way, during the AFCCG against the Chiefs and during the Chiefs SB loss to Tampa Bay. In Allen's case, it's possible there was a factor of his elbow injury making him physically unable to make some of the throws he needed to be able to make to change things around
