What is really underrated in his game is his ability to set the edge...he was near the tops of the NFL for TFLs last year for edge defenders because he uses his arms to really fight off blockers in the run game.

I don't agree they looked pretty good...mostly meh, had an amazing quarter and their D gives up the most yards per play in the NFL.  Maybe if you watched the highlights they have but if you watched both games in full I don't think you could really get there

Basically not a sustainable way to win over the course of a year

I watched both games in full which is why i used the word ‘pretty’ before good lol if they can scheme guys open tua will find them but he still seems pretty gun-shy and doesn’t even attempt tight window throws. His two really nice throws from the ravens game were the classic throw the ball super high in the end zone so the defender has no chance and maybe your guy makes a great play and comes down with it.

they should not have had any offensive tds against NE but the patriots blew two tackles on that play to close out the half

I’d want to seal up a win against them early though before they get Byron jones and Xavien Howard healthy

Of course Allen is better, if not the best. However, that doesn’t mean Tua hasn’t improved. I think too many here are underestimating the impact of McDaniel who has structured an offense to support Tua. Since they’ve only played 2 games, I’m sure they are getting better as a whole.
I expect this should be a shoot out that Allen and the Bills win, especially given the injuries on D.

I’ve watched just about every second of the dolphins two games this season and I think people are overestimating the system being kinder to tua actually.  Not saying he isn’t better but he’s certainly not much better.  Tuas performed about the same against decent coverage as last season…that ravens 4th quarter is going to be a crazy statistical outlier because of how bad that secondary was communicating down the stretch.    He’s a mostly one read qb who just won’t throw the ball in tight windows and it showed for 7/8 quarters of the season.

he’s laser accurate when his receiver has a step but he seems pretty hesitant to try to throw guys open.

They have had plenty of drives stall out dumping the ball out in the flats and losing 4-5 yards when he has receivers open downfield.

he looks like he’s still holding the team back to me so I hope people keep talking him up honestly.  Lamar would be pretty scary with that supporting cast and I’ve heard that rumored.

Yes, really. We're talking about 2022, now. The Dolphins defense is pretty good.

The 2021 dolphins defense was pretty good, they were middle of the road in yards and points allowed.  They’re very boom or bust because they like to play man coverage without a lot of safety help and if they can win their matchups they do great but if they can’t they get torched.

they literally can’t play man coverage with the guys they have healthy now though against a team with a lot of potential receiving threats.  That’s pretty much their whole defensive identity so they are going to struggle for awhile.

they had two matchups against teams without a lot of weapons at the wr position and haven’t looked great in either game.

    They haven't faced a D of Miami's quality???? Really???

People just look at how good the defensive depth chart is it seems and they don’t really consider individual matchups.  At full strength Miami maybe has a chance to play man against us which is what they prefer to do but I think they’ve got nik needham or igbinoghene replacing Byron jones and they aren’t very good.  On top of that Howard isn’t 100% healthy

Their linebackers aren’t particularly good either; the strength of that defense is the secondary and they are missing an important piece of that.

Any given Sunday and all that but this current Miami defense is considerably worse than the titans and rams defenses we’ve faced

True on that second Miami game last year, but that game was the start of the offensive funk the team went through in November, with the infamous Jags game the following week.  It wasn’t until the second half against Tampa that the offense started to show signs of getting it right again.

I think they had Byron jones and a healthy Xavien Howard in that game if I’m remembering correctly…they love to play man coverage without a lot of safety help so having banged up corners should be a bigger deal for them than us. I’m sure Howard is gonna play but they’ve got a big dropoff on the other corner spot compared to that game last year and who knows how close to 100% Howard is

The kickoff was just the initial blunder. Our coaches played the last 13 seconds like they didn’t understand that KC had timeouts remaining.

I think Levi Wallace admitted on someone’s podcast that he played the sideline when he shouldn’t have on that last play before the fg….I can’t remember what he said word for word though so I may be misremembering

I don’t think those are wild takes.

With a beat up secondary, we’ll need a big showing from our DL to help give our DB’s some slack against a good WR pair.

The not as much talent on the 53 seems absurd. But he is right saying that whatever their talent level is is contingent on Tua keeping up pace from last weeks Q4.

It’s matchups though not comparing overall how good a defense is.  They like to play cover 0 man which has disastrous results against us.  Our defense will be much better against their offense than their defense is against ours.  Doesn’t matter that they’ve got good guys on paper it’s still a terrible schematic matchup for them

Take away his first read, make his sustain long drives and I love our chances.

Tua is for sure a one read guy…unfortunately for the ravens their miscommunications were oftentimes leaving his first read wide open lol.

he doesn’t seem great at keeping his eyes downfield when he buys some extra time in the pocket either

IMO the Dolphins are so 1-dimensional when it comes to actual threats that we can balance out the chance of miscommunication by beating it into the Safeties heads that "when in doubt, get deep". It should always be their first priority. We'll happily take Gisecki catching 6 yard passes, and leave the front-7 to stop the run. Take away the deep threats and they are done.

I don’t think they’ll have time to even get deep…baltimore had the double whammy of zero pass rush and horrendous communication in the secondary going last week.

Armstead has been solid in both pass and run blocking and that would be a big loss. The weak pass blocking link on that line is the center, Williams. If the Bills can get consistent pressure up the middle, it would make it more difficult for Tua to work the middle of the field in the intermediate range where Waddle has done most of his damage.

You think it’s Williams ?  Austin Jackson is pretty bad and he’s on IR and their replacement RT is even worse.  Robert hunt is bad, eichenberg is bad.  Idk why they slid Williams to center though he’s a pretty high quality guard

Broken down by actual quarters played...

Tua - 739/8 = 92 passing yards per quarter.  When you add in his 1 rushing yard, his average moves up to 92 yards per quarter.

Allen - 614/7 = 88 passing yards per quarter  When you add in his 66 rushing yards, his average moves up to 97 yards per quarter.

Allen has produced 5 more yards per quarter of football played.

Tua was also very average in 7 quarters of the season so far and great in one

I'm already keeping a wary eye on the Bucs.

Maybe I'm soft, but it's hard for me to look forward to a SB against that team, with that QB.  Too many years - he's still the monster in the closet for me.

Sure, it would be the ultimate to finally beat him in a game like that (and feel a lot like our win over the Pats last year in the WC).  But is it worth 2 weeks of talking heads talk about how one-sided Brady's record is against the Bills, and all of that baggage?

Just give me a normal SB, psychologically.  That will be stressful enough.

Bucs offense is not looking very good so far…that defense has certainly bailed them out though.  Pretty surprising they’re 2-0 right now

Glad he showed the one great defensive Titan stop, not just Bill "highlights".

That was a perfect playcall by the bills that goes for good yardage if shakir just slows byard down a little bit…it didn’t even have to be a full on block…I don’t think byard brings josh down one on one if josh has some space to operate

I mean any given Sunday and all that jazz but it’s pretty illogical predicting the dolphins win this game as an nfl analyst.  The defense is mostly unchanged from the last few years except for a few rookie linebackers that haven’t had any real impact and they’ve never demonstrated they can slow down josh Allen.

Miami has been weak on the offensive line and the bills defensive line has seemed much more potent since von miller came over in the offseason.

Also if the game ends up turning into a shootout I think that heavily favors Allen not tua.  Miami is an objectively better team than a year ago but they don’t match up particularly well against buffalo

the patriots are closer to being on the right track to compete with the bills than the dolphins are at least schematically speaking. Dolphins really need to load up on bullies on the offensive line and defensive front 7

It's still early in the season, but we did just face the best DT in the NFL last week in Aaron Donald and another top 10 one in Jeffrey Simmons.

I think that may have a bit more to do with the situation, in addition to wasting snaps on Zack Moss. If I hear one more person say he's a power/physical back my head might explode.

Also we were great on third down last week…why are people jumping a whole calendar year to last year to establish this narrative and skipping the other game we played this season 😂

we were 9/10 on third down against the rams and the one we missed was a medium yardage situation.  That’s the big reason why the sloppy turnovers didn’t hurt us so bad we were unstoppable on third down

3 minutes ago, without a drought said:

The sooner everyone realizes that Moss is a backup all around back and not a short yardage specialist, the sooner they will get better at short yardage plays.

Not to say moss is good but I don’t think singletary would’ve picked up any of those firsts last night either…there were no running lanes.  Moss finds his way into the lineup because he’s a good pass blocker

It says a lot but we really don't know how good this team is yet until they play another serious contender which could be this week.

I think the Titans window has closed although in the AFCS it could be one of those years where a 7-10 team wins the division and makes the playoffs.

Rams I think are still a very legit team as the defending world champion but they almost blew the game last week against a bad falcons team that most feel will be in the #1 overall pick conversation this year and time will tell if the Rams are still elite or not.

Either way it's a good time to be alive and enjoy this ride because personally I've waited since the mid 90's for this type of team again.

Titans front 7 played great last night and we still whooped them…that’s the exact kind of team that would have given us trouble in the past.

people seem to be sleeping on the titans because they choked against the giants…the titans were the much better team in that one.  This was still a quality win.  They’re not 1 seed in the afc good (and werent last year either) but they’ll likely win that division

This is not an excuse for not being able to move the ball on 3rd and 4th and 1.

    Exactly.

I mean I wouldn’t call it an ‘excuse’ per se…but there’s certainly many easier teams to pick up a tough yard against so i don’t think it’s cause for alarm yet but maybe that’s just me.  We lost Mitch Morse for a few of those early 3rd and shorts against a really tough front 7 and later in the game when we had a comfortable lead we weren’t going to risk Josh’s health and run the designed qb run plays that worked well a week earlier

one of the third/fourth and shorts was a rookie receiver just not knowing his responsibility and completely whiffing on a block

Not sure how us picking up 3rd and shorts at a 100% clip the week previous isn’t relevant though…you’d have to explain that to me. The only third down we missed in that one was a third and 5.

  17. We really evened out the schedule disparity against us and Miami early on.  We’ve only got one non afc north/nfc north game to go and we’ve got a decent chance to go 3-0 in those games.  I think Miami has got the harder schedule going forward

I keep thinking of the game there last year we went after Tua and almost killed him before he got mercifully hurt and removed from the game.  To me sustained constant pressure from all angles is going to be the key - he won't be able to hit Tyreek deep with defenders invading his personal space with extreme malice, or from the ground.  Won't matter who the CBs are

Their offensive line doesn’t seem any better this year…they have some big time weak links there especially now with Austin Jackson on IR.  Unfortunately Kyle Hamilton kept rushing the passer when he was only supposed to simulate pressure and drop out so tyreek hill was wide open pretty much instantly on a lot of plays last week.  The corner kept thinking he had safety help and handing him off to a safety that just wasn’t there.

Tua made some great plays that were well covered in that game but a big chunk of his stats were peewee football level communication mistakes by the ravens secondary

that’s pretty much the exact game you’d want tua to have the week before playing us…he’s gonna consistently look to tyreek to bail him out when the pocket is collapsing next week because it worked for him this week and he will be consistently double covered

the ravens actually did a good job shutting down the screens and quick passes to the outside which was putting the dolphins in a lot of third and long situations the whole first half and tua looked like the tua we always see.  They fell apart when Humphrey went down in the second half though.

I agree we have some inside WRs, but aside from Diggs and Davis, there’s nobody that’s more than replacement level outside and that’s making the assumption that Davis is more than he has produced thus far in his career.  The Titans are a solid team, I think they are kinda like catching KC early in the year last season.  They are obviously not where they want to be yet.

Oh yea everything else was a train wreck for them…but that defense presented some challenges last night.  Their front 7 was dominant early on which is the kind of game we usually lose since it makes us completely one dimensional.

  19. 3 hours ago, DCofNC said:

    Nailed it.

Adding on, this ONE WR injury points out what a lot of us have been saying, the illusion of WR depth all off season was/is a joke, there is none.  It’s Diggs and a bunch of nobodies.  Kumero exceeded my expectations, good game.

I stand by my original statement of Cook being a wasted 2nd round pick, he may be fine, but it was a bad pick for value, need and just the flat out obvious, the scouts on this team don’t know what a RB looks like.

Really good game overall. Was really happy to see them stop selling out on the run after the first series and magically they were good all night.

There have been times when we needed them and were out bc of stupid usage.  You don’t know when wasting one will cost you a game.

Crowder looked good week 1.  McKenzie had some huge games in the slot last season.  I think we are writing off the titans as all around horrible because we absolutely obliterated them but that front 7 is nasty and they have some of the best safeties in the league.

Hey Turk, I really hope you're right but it all comes down to winning the Super Bowl or everything else in meaningless.

The 2007 Patriots had the greatest regular season ever, they went 16-0 and ultimately won 18 games in a row.  Had the highest point differential in history, +315.  They had 12 games where they scored more than 30 points, again the most in NFL history.  Four consecutive games won by 20 at the start of a season, most ever.  And then they lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl.  They would be considered the greatest NFL team ever if they had won that Super Bowl.  Now they don't even get talked about very much.

Let's hope the Bills can have a season like the 2007 Pats and finish it the right way.  It would be incredible to have the 2022 Bills team become legendary.

Right but they won quite a few other superbowls during Brady’s tenure though lol on an individual season basis winning the superbowl is a very tough task even for the obvious best team in the league. A single game elimination playoff format is so high variance and you need some good fortune (see the David tyree helmet catch)
