Demetrius Bell - Now an Eagle

I really don't either - but if Dan Snyder's not gonna overpay, who the heck is? (Do Bell and his agent realize that Al Davis died last year?) -

Wow...so in addition to having a torn-up wrist and being a bit on the slow side physically (ranked 10th among CBs in the 40 at NFL combine), dude's pretty stupid too. -

Not a very risky bet, since his agent said two days ago (after Philly sent him away w/out a deal) that they'd try to get a contract done with some team this week -

I think you're right - he could go as high as round 4 (there hasn't been a 10th round in years - if he's not drafted by round 7, someone will likely take a shot on him as an undrafted free agent). -

...then, given the Bills' cap room and the size of their payroll, a couple hundred thousand is like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic, ferchrisssakes...just get the deal done! . -

I dunno, Doc - I tend to think if anyone was gonna offer Bell more money than the Bills, one of the four teams he visited would have tried to close the deal w/out letting him leave town. In general, I tend to be one of the bigger pricks on TSW when it comes to not giving in to guys trying to bilk the Bills for more cash - but in this case, I really think that if Buffalo can strike a reasonable, one-year (possibly with an option for more), incentive-laden deal that motivates Bell to stay healthy and creates some desire to get on the field, get some reps, and prove his worth once and for all, then Bills need to get the deal done. And one of the things you don't want to do - in any negotiation - is have one side walk away from the table feeeling like they've been totally defeated. I just don't see how that creates any motivation for a player to want to excel and do his best in the coming season. I also don't have any real animosity toward Demetrius here - his contract was up, and the guy wanted to test his value in free agency. Maybe he overestimated his worth, maybe - as a young player - he got bad advice from a greedy, incompetent agent, maybe a little of both. Now he knows. I'm ready to welcome him back into the Bills' fold with open arms. We need more than just Hairston and Levitre at LT - and beyond USC's Matt Kalil (who will likely go in the top 5), all the other LTs are a reach at #10 and have huge 'bust-potential' (IMHO). In any case, there is NO left tackle in this year's draft (beyond Kalil) that you can 'plug in' as an immediate starter this September. Best to get the deal done with Bell so we can go to OTAs and camp with an experienced (and even competent, when he's playing well and not hurt) left tackle who knows our players, coaches, system, etc., and then go BPA at the #10 spot in the draft (which would be Stanford RG/C and future perennial All Pro, David DeCastro). Again, JMO... GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! . -

Well it would appear that opportunity has now passed for Demetrius... Link - After visiting Eagles, Bell is still a free agent He came, he saw, he left without a contract. Demetrius Bell was still a free agent when he departed Philadelphia after visiting with the Eagles over the weekend. The left tackle has met with four teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Green Bay Packers, since the start of free agency last month. But he remains on the market even though the Eagles were scrambling to find a starting left tackle after Jason Peters suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon last week. It was unclear exactly why a deal wasn't struck Sunday, although one source close to the situation said that Bell was impressed with what saw and heard during his stay at the NovaCare Complex. It would seem the Eagles were not equally impressed with Bell. (Nor, apparently, were any of the other teams he visited.) Link - Demetrius Bell's agent tells NBC10 he'll decide on team this week He visited teams, will talk deals this week. Birds looking at 1 year deal. Yeah...right. In other words, "Hey Buddy, I think we might be ready to make a counter-offer." I'm reminded of another famously strong negotiator... US troops were about to throw a hand grenade down into the spider hole when they heard the most improbable words, "I am Saddam Hussein, the president of Iraq, and I am willing to negotiate..." The response from the US soldier was, "President Bush sends his regards." . -
WOW - he's like one of the 40 or 50 players ranked in the top 5 of this year's draft class! He would be a real steal for the Bills at #10-overall... GO BILLSSS!!!! "I expect to be undefeated...I expect to win every game." - Chan Gailey 19 and 0 baby!!!!!

50/50 - either it'll happen, or it won't. Seriously though, the Bills WERE in the driver's seat until the recent Fat Boy debacle in Philadelphia. The Steelers don't have the cap room to offer any serious bidding competition... Link - Steelers not equipped for serious bidding on Bell ...and every other team the Bell has visited (Arizona, Washington, Green Bay) has let him walk away without a serious offer. (I wonder if the guy presents himself badly in workouts and face-to-face meetings, or if he and his agent are just making ridiculously unrealistic contract demands?) Anyway, it IS pretty much down to two teams now - the Bills and the Eagles - so 50/50 is probably the right answer. I have to think if Bell and his agent keep jerking the Bills around right up to the draft, then his days here are done. Love to have him back, but his going elsewhere will in no way keep the Bills from going... 19 and 0 baby!!!! GO BILLSSS!!!! "I expect to win every game." - Chan Gailey

You know, I remember thinking to myself when Hal gave that speech, "What a freakin' bunch of phonies these English Nancy-boys are...real men don't talk like that." But then, that's me. (I think Fox News panned it too, though.) . -
I believe he's one of the 70 players projected to go in round one.

That's what happens when you're a fat, lazy, outa shape, tub o' goo that doesn't take care of your own body! I'm just glad it was the Eagles' money.... GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! .

I am always thrilled when an AFC rival makes a horrible draft day decision.
-
Um...yawn. Of course there were lots of teams there looking at Tannehill...and all the other A&M prospects as well. I'd be shocked if they guy was left standing by himself the whole time - this was, after all, a freakin' Texas A&M Pro Day!!!! (Not a private team visit.) Why is is everyone thinks that every team absolutely covets every single player they have a conversation with at a Pro Day, and maybe decide to break bread with later on and extend the conversation further, as a first round pick???? Tannehill will get picked somewhere between #66-100. .

Justin Blackmon was in town last night
The Senator replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, I got no problem trading up for a CB that ran a 4.5 40 at the combine, and had surgery on his wrist a week ago to repair a torn ligament. Just remember, he probably won't be able to participate much in any of these: Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 13 – Rookie & First-year players Mini-camp Tuesday, May 29 - Organized Team Activities Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 - Organized Team Activities Tuesday, June 5 - Organized Team Activities Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 - Organized Team Activities Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 - Organized Team Activities Thursday June 14 and Friday, June 15 - Organized Team Activities Tuesday, June 19 – Thursday, June 21 - Mini-camp (Mandatory for all players) What should Buddy offer for a chance to move up and draft the speed-challenged gimp? Our first and third round picks, and our 2nd 4th? -
So what exactly is this 'Facebook' you speak of?

Jeez, I'll bet Mario's pretty pissed too

Here's the math - The Bills have visits scheduled with 30 draft-eligible players, plus local prospects; the Bills have 10 draft picks... Every year, roughly 2 or 3 of the draft-eligible players that visit OBD are drafted by the Bills, the other 27+ are not. Just sayin' I don't think a visit by anyone to OBD is any sure indicator that means Buddy means to trade up. (FYI - Cam Newton visited last year.) That said, Blackmon is a great steal for the Bills if he falls to the #10-spot! And hey, anything can happen on draft day... GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! . -
Never say "never", Never... I understand that my vision of rounds 1- 3 may seem ridiculously optimistic to some - however if one were to consider all the collective opinion of ALL the various NFL draft web sites, player evaluation sites, mock drafts, NFL draft gurus, TSW posters, etc., etc., you'd be left thinking there are at least 70-80 players that will all be gone by the end of round one. The tyranny of the numbers indicates otherwise - clearly, some of those 70-80 players will fall out of round one and into round two, and some even into the third round I'll be ecstatic if we get 2 of those guys in rounds 1-3 - we get all 3 and I'll be booking my flight to New Orleans... GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!!
