  1. Based on what I've seen so far I think Darnold is going to be better than Allen, and for that reason I'm voting for the Jets. But I'm a Jets fan so take it with a grain of salt.?
  2. We shall see. Strong up the middle. Bad DBs but very good safeties. OL iffy at best but Osemele should make it better. They had a lot of cap room. Mac was trying to save his job so I guess he thought he had to use it somewhere.
  3. I'm thinking that Douglas will be a stabilizing figure if the Johnsons can stay out of the way.
  4. Their OL stinks but Bell's pass-catching and Darnold's mobility should mitigate that somewhat. They are strong up the middle defensively. Much like the Bills, it all depends on whether their QB takes a leap forward.
  5. Maybe I'm nuts but I think the Jets are going to be pretty good this season.
  6. He's not exactly on the trading block. It's just offset language. They will work it out. Probably before Thursday.
  7. Didn't know that. I'm disappointed they haven't gotten it done. With the slotted contracts, this should be pretty much perfunctory.
  8. Your point is well-taken about completion percentage not equaling accuracy, but I'm not sure there's a better stat available to gauge accuracy. I'm looking forward to the division games. Even if I'm not sold on Allen yet I think the Bills are building things the right way.
  9. That's a good point about Cam, especially because there are some similarities in their skills. Hey, if I'm going to say you can't judge my guy (Darnold) by his rookie year, the same would certainly apply to Allen. It's going to be fun to watch them develop in any event.
  10. Understand that this is coming from a Jets and Darnold fan, just to put my biases out there. And I fully expect to be flamed for this. Allen is a rare talent. Superior arm (among the best in the league), great wheels, tough as nails. Will make plays that will make your jaw drop. And seems like a good kid. But I'm not convinced that he will ever be accurate enough to be a top level QB in the NFL. I'm a big believer in past production. He completed 55% of his passes in high school. 47% of his passes in Junior college. 56% at Wyoming. 52% last year. In the modern NFL, 60% seems to be the floor of where you need to be to succeed. He needs to get there. Maybe he can if the OL gets better and with better skill guys. But that would be an unusual jump, as the vast majority of guys' completion percentages don't improve when they get to the pros. If he does, though, he could be the cream of the crop.
  11. I view this very differently. Only one guy said no, and that was before even interviewing. They got the guy they were rumored to want for months (after some successful negotiations). In my view it was a sought after job, for only one reason: Sam Darnold. As a Jets fan, I think the Bills are ahead of us in virtually every department except QB. And that may be enough for the Jets to finish ahead of the Bills this season because it is probably the most important element. Time will tell. He likes Gase. They have worked together in the past and Gase undoubtedly recruited him.
  12. The Johnsons stepped back for four years while MacCagnan and Bowles did a lousy job. I don't expect them to get in the way of Douglas and Gase either.
  13. Just because he had a fistfight on the sideline with his coach in college? But I do think he is going to be a great player.
  14. Apologies. Only made it because of the other news that came out that the Bills gave out that number and because I found it so unlikely that the Jets would trade him in the division.
  15. I wouldn't agree that it makes no sense. They gave Macgagnan five drafts. He has done a crappy job, outside of his high first round picks. That's a plenty big sample-size. Arguably, it was a long-time coming. Not on ly did he get virtually nothing after the first round but there were total head-scratchers that virtually everyone else seemed to know were bad (like Hackenberg) but him. So then why didn't they fire him when they fired Bowles? I think Chris Johnson though it would be too overwhelming to do a search for the Coach and the GM at the same time with free agent season coming so soon. And time is of the essence in getting the top guys signed. And it is very tough for a new GM to do a draft on two or three months notice. They don't have their scouts in place. They don't know the entrenched scouts well enough to know if they can trust them. I can kinda see why he did it this way. But he is taking a PR beating.
  16. Agree that he could be much better if used correctly. I think the Jets will keep him this year and if he plays well, they will try to sign him.
  17. I don't agree that Gase ruined Tannehill. He had his best year and a half under Gase and even made the playoffs in his first year but Tannehill kept getting hurt.
  18. No. He's a solid run-stuffer. A valuable contributor but not the stud we Jets fans had hoped. But maybe playing with Quinnen will free him up a bit.
