Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
<bills4life> replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup. Play not to lose instead of playing to win. Most if not all dominant defenses throughout nfl history have been attack style defense that dictate the game of play and disguise coverages. That is how you limit great qbs and force them into making mistakes and getting them out of rhythm . This bend but don’t break, prevent, complimentary football crap is beyond infuriating. In all my years of watching football I have never seen a team so consistently give up 3rd and longs for a 1st down. I use to love dick lebeaus style of defense. You never knew what was coming and when. -

I would add Hamlin, strong, and Codrington to that list of bad. -
If you are cutting Hamlin, do it now...
<bills4life> replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this is the case then beane needs to get on the phone and package epinesa plus a fifth for someone who can come in and start without being a liability. Because here again it will cost again in the playoffs against better qbs. -

If the “incident” never happened he would have been cut the following year. -
So it should be clear we won’t get there rushing 4

Agree with everything you said. But damn if they could just improve on that stupid 3rd and long defense giving up first downs all the time. It’s beyond infuriating. Unacceptable and inexcusable. -

It’s so true. Would love to see a guy come in and have a Bryce paup type impact and a Ted Washington type on the interior. -

So sick of our 3rd down defense. It’s a joke. -
Rams extend RB Kyren Williams - 3-year, $33 million
<bills4life> replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im not advocating to dump him. However he is not a top 3 rb and should not be paid as such. Another couple of seasons with last years production is a different matter. But the body of work is simply not there yet. I’m sure beane is not happy with his antics either. If he continues on this path and the bills offer a similar contract commensurate to Williams, and he refuses a fair offer, I would not be shocked if he is moved. I would take a prime Fred Jackson, marshawn lynch, or lesean McCoy over him. But that’s just me. -

Yeah and the two years previous he averaged 800 yds and 2 tds per season. Cook had 1 great season. Let’s not act like he is a bonafide superstar. While Davis may not have the home run capability, as a full time starter he would easily replicate cook’s first two seasons. Especially with this line. -

Should offer him same deal. Take it or leave it. -

Now if only that marketplace was commensurate with ticket prices for the average middle class family in the western ny area. Its going to be interesting to see what ticket prices are in 10 years. -
Literally spit up my coffee on that one. Thanks.

Peoples interpretation and definitions of those two words determine perception. The charger’s team of Philip rivers and Lt. for example. To chargers fans that team was historic for a few years. In the annals of nfl history not to much. Just another great team with great players, who couldn’t get over the hump. Philip Rivers had 8 pro bowl selections. I think Josh is way better than him. To have never appeared in at least a superbowl is underwhelming to say the least. Especially when Josh’s playoff stats are other worldly. Maybe this year they get over the hump. More optimistic about this team, than any team since the “historic” team of the 90’s.

Shocking. Who would have ever thought?

The difference is Ladd can separate. Coleman has not demonstrated that on a consistent basis at all. This was his biggest concern when he was drafted and continues to remain so.

Bills 4th Round Pick : Deone Walker - DT - Kentucky
<bills4life> replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Something needed to be done. I don’t follow the beane walks on water crowd at all. However I have to give him props for addressing the problem, with youth as opposed to washed veteran retreads. They got bigger on the front end, faster at cb, and younger. Got to give the man credit. I hope it pays off. -

This might end up being one of Beanes best draft classes outside of picking Allen. At least they are adding size speed and youth to that defense.
