Played flat. Still won. This is a good thing. `
CincyBillsFan replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The total lack of production from our TE group is what kills us here. Today at least the RB's showed signs they could be solid down the stretch but the TE's combined for 2 catches for 5 yards. Typically TE's combine for 60 - 70 yards for their teams. This is a real problem with Brown out. I'm not sure they can fix it until the off season. -
Week 12 Post Game thread Bills vs Chargers

My three goals for the Bills this season were: 1) See Allen continue to improve which he clearly has. He is our franchise QB unless one of the "we should have drafted Mahomes" sad sacks on 2BD makes a time machine and we go back to the 2017 draft and convince the Bills NOT to make that trade with KC. 2) Win the Division which we are positioned to do. 3) Win at least one playoff game. This team is clearly good enough to win a playoff game. -
Week 12 Post Game thread Bills vs Chargers

I second that. The Bills led 17 - 6 after a solid workmanlike first half. Then the Bills looked like a division winning playoff team when they came out of the locker room and had a nice 6 minute TD drive to go up 24 - 6. At this point you had to be ecstatic at the Bills solid performance against a solid team. Then the weird stuff started happening. It began with a cheap unsportsmanlike penalty on Allen after his TD run. Then the D faces two 4th downs and allows LA to convert both. Stop the Chargers at midfield on the 4th & 2 and the game is over. Then we had a nightmarish 4th quarter. Leading 24 - 14 Singleterry rips off back to back 10 yard runs only to lose a bad fumble. After throwing a beautiful deep ball to Gabe giving the Bills a 1st down at the LA 22 leading by 7, Allen fumbles the snap and instead of just falling on the ball tries to recreate the Dallas game. A huge run by Moss is mostly eliminated by a 2nd chicken sh## sportsman like penalty. This time on Moss. Allen throws a bad INT. Allen rips off a 17 yard run for a first down that puts us at the LA 12 lard line. The play is called back after a very questionable holding call on Dawkins. Truth be told is we should have blown them out in the 4th quarter. The reality is that we led them by 11 and then by18 and for most of the 4th quarter by 10. This wasn't really a close game accept in our minds as we still remembered how we lost that Arizona game at the end. -
That was the game where the Bills were first starting to display the power of their no-huddle offense. They got up on the Eagles 24 - 0 in the 1st quarter which back then was unheard off. The Bills almost lost the game because they didn't stick with the no-huddle the whole game. They won 30 - 23.

For which season are you asking the question? Back in the Ron Jaworski years or more recently?

I think there is a real advantage to forcing the LA defense to prepare for either Morse or Mongo at center. Not as much as prepping for different QB's but I suspect there's some subtle things we fans aren't aware of that make this a bit of a headache for the Chargers. In the end if Morse is truly ready to go then he and Mongo on the field at the same time seems like the best option for the Bills O-line.

Flores: Tua benched, not hurt
CincyBillsFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair points about tanking but I disagree about the value experts bring to the decision. Consider Mahomes, how many experts were saying he was a can't miss prospect? Very few. Reid saw something that most of the experts didn't see. Or even closer to home what were the "experts" saying about Allen? Or Darnold? Or Mayfield? My concern with tanking is it puts a stain on a franchise that is forever. If Lawrence were the next Mahomes it would be worth it. I just question the certitude with which so many people are claiming that Lawrence is a can't miss prospect. My 50 years of following the NFL have taught me there is no such thing. -

I really think he would benefit from one more year at OSU. With Lawrence out of the way Fields would be the presumptive #1 pick. He doesn't want to go down the path of Haskins or Turbisky if he can avoid it. -

Trevor is a great PROSPECT but the operative word here is prospect. He is no where near a sure thing and I was reacting to the insane list that had him the 2nd best recent NFL QB taken in the draft before he threw a single NFL pass. To tank to draft Lawrence would be crazy IMO. I would also have some concerns about Justin Fields. As an Ohio State fan he reminds me of an athletic Haskins. That is when he has all day to throw and is playing against B1G secondary's he can destroy them throwing to a posse of future NFL WR's. But put pressure on him as IU just did and his accuracy and judgement suffer. -
Week 11 MNF: LA Rams at TB Bucs, 8:15 ET

There have been 3 pass interference calls on the Rams and only the middle one was legit. How the hell does Brady get these calls all the time? Come on NFL fix your officiating problem. -

As a college football fanatic I would also point out that Lawrence doesn't exactly play against a lot of elite teams. In last years Championship game he looked pretty ordinary going up against those future NFL players on LSU's defense. -
The bad weather helped NE because their passing attack is poor and definitely inferior to the Bills. That day the weather was an equalizer. Against the Chargers poor weather helps us as the Bolts O is much better then NE at throwing the football. They depend on a vertical passing game to move the ball. I also think that playing & practicing in the wet/wind will allow the Bills to be more effective then LA at throwing the ball. Bottom line is that weather plus the Bills solid pass defense, which looks to be healthy, is favorable for Buffalo. Against NE it was our weak run defense against NE's rushing game which was their offensive strength. I see this as Bills 31 LA 21.

Week 11 Around the League

Green is not close to being the Green of a few years ago. Franky he's a liability. He has dropped multiple passes some of them potentially huge gainers. Reminds me of the guy we got from the Panthers to help Allen in his rookie year. Boyd & Higgins are solid but the Bengals have worse TE's then the Bills and that O line is really bad. -

Not really. Mixon has been out the last few games (and today). Higgons & Boyd are solid. The best Bengal's TE was hurt early in the season and Green is way past his use by date. I'll admit the skill position players are better then the O-line but that's not saying much. -

I hear you guys about Burrow but if you saw the amount of Bengals games I see you would fully appreciate how bad this team is. Marno had a better offense around him at Miami then Burrow has today in Cincy. Herbert is good but LA has a lot more talent around him then Cincinnati has around Burrow. Spain is starting today for the Bengals and he's a huge upgrade. The beating Burrow takes every week is a violation of the Geneva Convention. -

Joe Burrow is the best rookie QB I've ever seen and that includes Marino. When you consider what he has to work with his productivity is simply astonishing. -

Aikman & Buck spewing words is like an overflowing septic tank. Worst pair of announcers in the NFL. -

If the Bills go back to sucking I'm done with the NFL. The officiating is awful and inconsistent. That holding call was ticky tack and not throwing the flag on the interference was suspect to. And while I'm on a rant, Aikman makes me want to barf. What a bad commentator. -

My TV is struggling to accommodate the color scheme on the field. Ugly is an apt description. -
A great example of his down & distance awareness is that once he takes off running it matters what down it is whether he slides or tries to run through tacklers. On 1st or 2nd down Allen has gotten pretty good at sliding or running out of bounds short of the sticks. On 3rd down he almost always tries to get past the sticks when he takes off running.

TBN Jim Kubiak on Allen in Cardinals game
CincyBillsFan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dear God NOT the "Bills traded Mahomes pick" reason to crap on Allen. I thought we were way past that point. Why be so limiting. I could come up with a dozen NFL players who if they were on the Bills would make them a better team. -
Allen did his part and more. QB's will throw INT's and it sure sucked that a couple of his biggest passes got called back on bad penalties. But with the game on the line Allen drove the Bills 78 yards for what should have been the game winning TD. This is what makes a great QB and we have a great QB.

Knox is close to losing me. He had a huge momentum turning penalty late in the 3rd quarter today. After Arizona had cut the Bills lead to 23 -19 we had a nice drive going. On 2nd & 10 from midfield the Cards were off sides and Allen makes a great throw out to Singleterry on the free play. Motor takes it 20 yards to the 30 but at the very end Knox holds negating the big play and the offside. On the next play Allen throws the INT. There was no reason for Knox to grab anyone at that point. The play was over. Another bad penalty was the holding when Allen converted the 3rd & 23 with a 24 yard strike to Brown. To lose that conversion because of a lazy hold by a guard was disgusting. Now the Bills have to get healthy over the break. To win the division they need to beat both the Dolphins & Patriots and then win 2 of the 3 games against SF, Denver & LA. They finish 11 - 5 and are AFC East champs.

Connecting this thread to the upcoming Cardinals game any love for Leonard Smith? Good old #46 was a stone cold killer back in the days before targeting existed. This guy brought an attitude to the Bills D and had a real knack for the ball. We became a physical defense the moment he was back there head hunting.
