Coaching Staff has to take a huge blame for yesterday
CincyBillsFan replied to BillyBilliams's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen's mistakes did not cost the Bills the game. After his first bad INT Allen led the Bills on two TD drives, including a 93 yard drive, to put the Bills up 14 - 3 and take command of the game. At that point the defense allowed the Jets to go on a time consuming TD drive that ended with only 30 seconds left in the half. Then late in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, the defense allowed the Jets to go on a 90 yard drive, using up a big part of the 4th quarter to take a 20 - 17 lead. Finally Allen threw a perfect 70 yard pass that went through the hands of Davis. Bottom line is that while Allen contributed to the loss, he was in no way the main person responsible. IMO that rests on the D which allowed an anemic NY Jet offense to run the ball down their throats at critical moments in the game. -
I know a lot of people on TBD didn't like Beasley but McKenzie/Shakir haven't come close to matching his production (82 catches last season). There is an art to playing slot and Mck/Shakir don't have it. Shakir may develop into a fine slot receiver but as a rookie he looks lost out there.

The Bill's offensive strength was negated by the Jets defensive strength. It was strength versus strength. In contrast the defense is also a Bill's strength. Can you say that offense is a Jets strength? Again, only giving up 20 points to KC or Philadelphia is a good defensive performance. Against the Jets it's not so good. And throw in the fact that the Jets moved the ball at crucial times during the game resulting in huge momentum changes magnified the defenses poor play. It was a team loss.

Disagree. Sure Allen played poorly with two bad INT's but he also sparked the O with some big time runs. The Bills O faced a very good D today. We would have needed Allen's A game today and instead we got his C game. The issue with the Bills D is that they played poorly at critical points in the game. It's not just the points given up but the failure to make stops at key times. The Jet drives after the Bills went up 14 - 3; at the start of the 3rd quarter and after the Bills pinned them inside their own 5 yard line were killers. Sometimes you have to win a low scoring game.

Josh Allen's waning confidence and mental yips
CincyBillsFan replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
He played poorly. But is it Allen losing confidence or a sign of deeper issues with the Bill's O? * After Diggs - who is a top 3 WR in the league - who are the Bills play makers? Davis is maddeningly inconsistent and McKenzie and Kalir are not doing a good job as slot receivers. Last year Beasley alone caught 82 passes out of the slot. * Allen's play has hidden the deficiencies of the O line. * The lack of a running game is starting to take it's toll. Hines can't get on the field fast enough. -

Mahomes did it last year. Check out the KC's back to back losses to the Bills & Titans. You also might want to take another look at the 2nd half of the KC/Cincy AFC championship game. -
Putting aside Allen's two bad INTs and the offenses struggles the defense lost the game today. People shouldn't be fooled by holding the Jets to 17 points. When it mattered the Bills D played terrible: * After the Bills took a 14 - 3 lead it looked like we were on the verge of breaking the game wide open. Instead the Jets take the KO and drive 75 yards for a TD using up the rest of the 2nd quarter. Do people have any doubt that at that point had the Jets gone 3 and out that the Bills would have put more points on the board taking a 17 - 3 or 21 -3 halftime lead. * At the start of the 3rd quarter the Bills D could have set the tone by forcing a Jet's punt. Instead the Jets use up 9 minutes of the quarter before losing a fumble. * Late in the 4th quarter with the game tied 17 - 17 the Bills punt the ball to the Jets 4 yard line. A three and out and the Bills offense has great field position to use up the rest of the game and escape with a win. Instead the Jets run the ball down the Bills throat driving to the 3 yard line and kicking the winning FG. There was always a possibility that the Jets D would give the Bills O trouble. But the idea that the Jet's offense could go on multiple long, time consuming drives at critical points of the game was something I didn't think could happen.

NFL Week 8: Packers at Bills - post game thread

What happens if the Chiefs play even worse? My goodness watch the season of any Super Bowl winner in the 21st century and you will find that in multiple games they played worse then the Bill's played last night. -
Defense vs Green Bay and their performance

Our defense was only disappointing if you gave the points and bet the mortgage on covering. From a "win the football game POV" it was a solid concept and effort by the Bill's on D. -

You can throw out hypothetical's all you want but we had first and goal at the GB six yard line up 27 - 10 with about eight minutes left in the game. The Packer's were fortunate that they didn't lose this game by 24 points. -

This was a solid win. I don't know what NFL you guys are watching but EVERY Super Bowl winner in the 21st century has had a couple of games where they played below what they're capable of. In fact this is a sign that the Bills are a legit Super Bowl team. During their 4 SB run in the early 1990's the Bills would have games like this several times a season. Bingo. As frustrating as Frazier's D can be he played it correctly last night. There was no way the Packers were going to win this game with a run first offense in the 2nd half. And even though Allen was off in the 2nd half and threw two picks GB lost by 10 points. Frankly the Packer's strategy seemed to be to cover the Vegas spread and not win the game. It was like they did everything they could to avoid getting embarrassed not to win the game. -

How a team plays over a period of time can be a predictor of future results. How a team plays in a single game, let alone single half is not. Anyone who follows the NFL knows that the end result is ALL that matters. Tonight we saw the reasons why the Bills are 6 - 1 and sit alone on top of the AFC. An explosive offense piloted by an elite play making QB that can hit the big play at any time and pile points up. And a stingy defense that can get after the QB and bends but almost never breaks. Sure the team and Allen lost focus and didn't play their best in the 2nd half with a 17 point lead. When I look at the body of work by the Bill's through the first 7 games I feel very confident that this team will play great over the remaining 10 games. -

Shaky in the first half? they led 24 - 7 and after a 3 and out on their first possession Allen and the Bills scored 3 straight TD's and closed out the half with a FG. Meanwhile GB scored only one TD. If that was a "shaky" first half then I would like to see what you consider a solid half of football. -

Not like PB, JV, Indy or NE at all as Allen led the Bills Offense to 24 first half points. The 2nd half was weird and that includes Allen being off. But Allen led the Bills on 3 straight TD drives and then drove them 60 yards right before half for a FG to take a commanding 24 - 7 halftime lead. The season is long. Look at the mini slumps the last 3 Super Bowl winners went threw during those seasons. The Bills and Allen had a 2nd half slump in a game they led 27 - 10 halfway through the 4th quarter. The only impact this game will have on the rest of the season is that the Bills got a win and hold onto first place in their division and the AFC. -

People in the game thread are usually crazy so there is that. Allen had a rough 2nd half - it happens. And when you talk about regular season "2021" are you talking about Allen's games against Washington, TN, Houston, KC, NE, NO, NYJ and others? This game reminded me of the Tampa Bay game last year but the half's were reversed. In last years game Allen was off in the 1st half but tore it up in the 2nd half. Tonight Allen tore it up in the first half and was off in the 2nd half. -

Singletary had losses of 5 yards on one 1st down run and then followed that up with a 4 yard loss on another 1st down run. -

Allen had a fine 2021 season. He had a couple of stinker games but what QB doesn't? -

What's that supposed to mean? Jacksonville and Pittsburgh were no better last season and we lost both those games because Allen was off. A 10 point win is a great thing in the NFL. -

I don't know even though he was off in the 2nd half he made a number of highlight reel plays tonight. The run for a 1st down on 3rd & 14 to set up the first TD; the spectacular TD trow to Diggs and then the 60 yard strike to Diggs right before half time. And don't forget the free play toss to Davis that just missed being an amazing TD pass. Throw in that great throw to Cook and Allen did not hurt his chances tonight. He didn't pull away but he didn't fall back either. -

You mean 2nd half's like that because Allen was brilliant in the first half. Look every QB has an off game. In this game Allen had an off half and we still won by 10. -
Who would have thought Tampa would have missed Arians so much.

Are you saying Allen didn't have great throws in 2018! Were you watching the games back then? Allen could fill a 20 minute highlight film with great throws led off by his 75 yard TD pass against the Jags. -

It's nice to see the Pats entering the lost years. Remember how we would cheer for the new guy? Sure they would get hot and we all felt that we finally had our guy but in the end............ My guess is that Zapee will go the way of the Jet's Mike White.
