Is that what happened here in our front office?

This is one problem with staffing the coaching ranks and FO's in the NFL.  Guys get in and want to bring in their buddies or "promote from within" (in order to maintain authoritative control).

I didn’t realize that Daboll, Dorsey and Brady were part of the front office.

I encourage you to do the same… 😁

Desai was scapegoated in Philly, but doesn’t have an extensive body of work. He has however worked under some interesting guys including John Fox, Vic Fangio, Mike Pettine etc. The one thing I will say is he is an interesting guy you can freely add to the staff if he doesn’t become the DC. Others have mentioned, what is most significant here is that they are doing DC interviews. I hope that means they promote Babich.

In addition to satisfying the Rooney Rule in order to promote Babich, this is probably some due diligence in the event Desai doesn't get another DC job.

He could come here to rebuild his value a bit like Joe Brady did.

Praying for good news the next few days on the Bills injury front.

Just amazing though that KC barely every has any injuries of note despite playing a similar brand of physical football. They are either lucky or their guys are flat out better NFL players.

Your brand of stupid is one of a kind.

If I was a mess Jim Harbaugh would be my first call. Nobody does culture change better than him. He has now got over the hump and finally become a winner so maybe he is the #1 anywhere but he is known as difficult to work with. He creates tension and dysfunction. I just think those types are short shelf life.

Vrabel to be honest is similar. He is not out in Tennessee because of two losing seasons. He is out in Tennessee because of two general managers. Neither of whom he could get on with. Eventually when that is the case teams conclude you might be the issue.

If I was a team that I thought was close and just needed better coaching I'd start with Ben Johnson. I don't think he is the offensive genius some do but that almost improves my opinion of him as a Head Coach candidate. I think his offense is pretty simplistic. But it leans heavily into what his players can do and who they are. And it is that awareness and player centric approach that gives me hope he will be a good one.

And then there is Bill Belichick. If he is fired and I was Washington, 2nd pick in the draft, some pieces, just need a QB, easier conference.... man I'd think long and hard about Belichick. But I would make him work with a GM.

I think those four stand out in a rather thin HC candidate pool. I like Bobby Slowick but I hate hiring guys as Head Coaches based on 1 sparkling year as a coordinator. If he backs up next year then he would absolutely be high on my list for 2025. Brandon Staley is the cautionary tale of the 1 year coordinator hotshot.

I personally believe Brian Flores should find his way into the mix somewhere. Although, it may not happen with all the lawsuit stuff.

Frank Smith probably ends up with a job seeing he's highly regarded by players and works for the trendy team right now.

    Exactly right!

You said it perfectly right there. That was the thinking behind that play call at that crucial moment of the game.

As it should be? They had the lead and the Dolphins were out of timeouts.

The object of the game is to have more points than the other team when the clock expires.

  6. Just now, Governor said:

It was a designed run left with nowhere to throw the ball.

You have 4 plays to end the game. You need 1 more first down to kill the clock, you used up 1 play already (run up middle) so now 3 chances left, and that’s the play you run on 2nd down? It was a throwaway play any way you slice it. It probably has a 5 percent success rate in that situation.

I’ve moved on. Just pointing out once again that McD is the roadblock keeping this team from reaching a SB with his spineless calls down the stretch of games.

Then don’t speak in hyperbole. You called it “a kneel to the left.” That wasn’t the play call.

That play has been very successful for them in the past. It gives them an extra blocker and puts the ball in your best player’s hands. It also limits the possibility of a turnover in that situation and guarantees the clock keeps running.

McDermott went for it on 4th and 1 from his own 35 on the same drive, went for it again from 4th and 1 and you’ve zeroed in on a QB sweep (that’s been very effective in the past) as spineless?

    Your agenda is showing…

    Yes.

Yeah, that’s not what the play call was. It was a version of the QB sweep they’ve run with Allen in the past (Houston WC game comes to mind, but it was a pretty common play call under Daboll).

The play got blown up and rather than Josh try and fight up the sideline and stop the clock by going out of bounds, he fell down in bounds.

If you legitimately think the play call was “run left and kneel down” I don’t really know what to say…

I guess when you take a step back and reanalyze those downs, the run to the left kneel down to keep the clock running, there’s no way that call came from Brady up top. That original call (whatever it was) was overruled by McD 100 percent. There’s no intent to get any yardage on that play whatsoever to get us into FG range.

And we still didn’t kill the clock.

Which play are you referring to? The Allen run on 2nd and 11 after the Dolphins called their final timeout with under 3 minutes left?

McD was trying to win the game until he wasn’t.

The goal in mind was to run out the clock(for whatever reason) and seal the game. Ok, that obviously failed miserably. We did not accomplish that at all.

I listed the pays for everyone. Watch it again if you need to. McD starts out pretty gutsy. Omg, we’re doing it!

McD then closes his eyes and rolls up in a fetal position on the last set of plays.

    Turns the ball over.

Then puts ALL of the pressure on the defense with a ton of time on the clock against a quick strike offense with a HOF WR.

The defensive holding penalty that stopped the clock on Josh’s 3rd and 13 conversion screwed things up quite a bit on the drive. It required us to convert another 1st down when we may not have had to otherwise.

We put a safety up vs the run and they just didn’t have the ball. Offense did an incredible job with ball control. They ran 9 plays in the 2nd half before that final drive.

How could it only be 9 plays before the final drive?

They had 5 drives in the second half, which means 4 of them were before the final drive. They punted each of those 4 drives...

I don't remember Spector NOT looking good whenever he's played.   I know preseason is more basic football but he's looked excellent and instinctive in those opportunities.

Dodson had also almost always looked solid as well(despite some claims to the contrary).    AJ Klein had a nice run when he had to start(once they adjusted his role to his strengths).    Even Julian Stanford looked good filling in for Edmunds in 2018.   Preston Brown lead the NFL in tackles in 2017 and Ramon Humber wasn't even too bad before Milano took that job over full time.   Lorax was also excellent in a hybrid role that included a lot of LB.

You pretty much gotta' go back to the Rex days to see poor LB play in Buffalo.

This is why I have hope that Dorian Williams makes a Terrel Bernard-esque leap in 2024.

Not fired his boy Press Taylor though. He was allegedly one of the staff Lurie wanted him to fire in Philadelphia and he refused (which in part led to his own firing). Now he is sticking his neck out for him again.

Kudos to Pederson for having some conviction. Press Taylor must feel incredibly valued and supported.

Unfortunate for the rest of the staff.

  13. Man, I hope we win one.

I don't want to look back and wonder what could have been - this group has had SO much success.

At the same time, I need to remember to enjoy this for what it is. We're so competitive each and every week.
