I mean I asked specifically because fandom usually causes people to behave in certain ways and hold certain opinions. I’m just curious where you’re coming from... most fans also don’t have the bandwidth to watch all 32 teams and under the nuances of each organization, their games, etc. I can’t restrict your posting, it’s more for my knowledge. Doing rough math it looks like the average TD conversion rate was around 55% last year? I mean it’s not necessarily a guarantee. It’s closer to a coin toss than a guarantee. EDIT: My rough math was REALLY good. It was 56% last year.

Never said there was an issue with you being here. Okay that’s what they’re taught... who’s to say another QB running there doesn’t put it in the wrong arm and get the ball knocked out? We’re playing the same game here... the what if game... ultimately we don’t know... but stating someone else would execute isn’t a “fact” that’s an opinion. You’re presenting facts but the whole argument isn’t rooted in fact, it’s rooted in opinion with some facts being used to support it. Easy to confuse, but much different.

I asked who you root for and why you feel the need to post here... basically you’re not a Bills fan, so why take the time to post here? Okay, but what facts are you presenting in the 2nd half of your post here? You’re presenting an opinion, with absolutely zero facts to back it up. Is there a statistic that shows how often QBs convert in that situation? Are you telling me Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP and NFC Champion doesn’t know how to handle those situations? Insert any other DT and MAYBE they don’t force a fumble and the Patriots win the game? I mean you’re not presenting objective facts, you’re presenting an opinion.

Question, and this is going to really put you in a sticky spot. What makes someone’s sports takes off base? Because if everyone doesn’t have to share the same point of view, then they’re allowed to have different takes. So because they don’t agree with you, their takes are off base? Pretty cool how you contradict yourself there...

That’s fair, but there’s also simply no way to say with certainty that Morse would definitely not be starting at center this Sunday if Ford wasn’t injured.

It’s amazing it took all year for us to notice how overweight he is. We could just never tell in the uniform on game day, or in any other practice photos. He needs to start taking things more seriously and lose the excess weight. After seeing this I don’t even know if he truly cares about football. Gosh, some folks.... 🙄 In all seriousness he does look a little heavier this year, but not much. I know for a fact weights are set by S&C and monitored... my guess is he was asked to put on 5ish lbs for durability purposes or it was agreed on that he could do that. If he was actually overweight it would be an issue the coaching staff would address pretty quickly. This is just an unflattering picture with equipment on... and yes he’s likely wearing EXACTLY what he’s going to wear in a game for feel purposes.

Yeah for sure. It’s going to come down to the synergy between the coaching staff and front office... which I think we’ve got one of the most in sync groups in professional sports. McDermott can get a lot out of a little and keep guys focused. Beane has done a good job finding starting quality guys, maybe not stars, but guys who can contribute in every draft. He’s also done well for himself on waivers and with a decent portion of his FA signings. He’s missed of course, but he hits more than he misses. I think they have the 4 things it takes to be successful and make drafts look even better than they are... 1) Good Owner 2) Good GM 3) Good HC 4) Good QB

Well the bar you set was 3 starting caliber players each draft... and most of these guys are starting on a playoff team. So are they not starting caliber? In the baseball scouting world we break things down a certain way. On the 20/80 scale. In order for a guy to get a specific grade and fall into a specific category they have to meet certain criteria. For example, John Means of the Orioles, when he broke out and was an All-Star and the ace of the Orioles, that doesn’t mean he was an actual ace. In reality the grade I had on him was roughly a 55, which means he’s a #4-5 starter on a playoff caliber team. But if we’re grading all of these picks, they’re starting on a playoff caliber team... so they can’t be below average, at least not all of them. It’s impossible. Because in theory they would go to average and below average teams and be one of the top players.

Can’t wait to watch Mahomes and the Chiefs run over Brady next week. What will be even better is when the Bucs lose 1st round to the winner of the NFC East.

Fair enough, but if Green Bay were to have taken a WR in the first round this year it would have been a WR that didn’t actually go until the 2nd round. Every 1st round WR went before their pick came in 2020.

These are all great. I agree PIT, BAL, GB... so Colbert, Newsome/DeCosta, Thompson/Gutekunst. But who else? You need roughly 7-12 more GMs that are better than Beane at drafting for him to be considered average or below average...

The funny thing here is we passed on Mahomes and Watson and were able to end up with Josh. The Giants and Broncos thought they could pull off something similar? I’m not sure. The Giants took Jones the next season, similar to our decision to wait and take Allen. I know folks still harp on that, but imagine if we didn’t get it right? That’s the point though, if we passed and then didn’t get it right when we went to do it... you’re in trouble because the QB position is the MOST important on the field.

Sorry for starting another thread today, I don’t often start threads and don’t plan on doing so regularly, but I’d like some feedback on this topic to better form my own opinion. A lot of posters on here declare that Brandon Beane is an average drafter, which is fine, I think he’s slightly above average. I’m not really here to debate Beane. I’d like to get an understanding of what GMs people believe are elite drafters (Top 5ish), who’s above average (Top 10ish) and then who else is average? How do you measure the success of the draft? How many drafts does a GM need to run to be able to judge them? Do ESPN/3rd party sources rankings factor into your definition of a good draft? Examples are helpful. EDIT: I will follow up here with some of my current opinion. I don’t think anyone in the NFL is particularly an elite drafter. Pittsburgh would be the only organization that comes straight to my head. My point there is if there’s only 1 elite drafting GM/organization and the rest are “average” it doesn’t really work that way. Mathematically average is taking everyone’s performance into account.. everyone can’t be average... they’re compared to each other... Do folks see where I am going?

Yeah I don’t think taking the QB is the issue though. They decided to take a RB in RD2 with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams on the roster. That was more head scratching to me... there were I believe 7 WR off the board before they traded up to take Love at 26.

I got into a debate last night with some friends via text message. After the GB game someone made a comment that the Packers are wasting Rodgers. I snapped back and said 7-3 is a real waste. They went into a long rant about how the Packers were 1 game away from the Super Bowl and did nothing to address their needs, they specifically singled out the decision to take Jordan Love in the 1st round. I want to get everyone’s thoughts? The Packers have a shot to be the #1 seed in the NFC this year. My stance is that your goal as a franchise is to win a Super Bowl, you have a better chance at winning a Super Bowl if you’re competitive every year because the playoffs are a crapshoot, in order to win you need an elite QB. The Packers have an elite QB now and felt Love had the potential to stretch their competitive window post Rodgers. The QB is all that matters IMO. Now if Love doesn’t pan out the point is moot, but if Rodgers fails to win a SB and eventually love takes over and becomes a top tier QB I think it’s undoubtedly worth it because it keeps the Packers competitive. The Chiefs were a competitive team with Alex Smith, but they decided to trade up for Mahomes AND sit him a season and it paid dividends. The Cardinals knew Rosen wasn’t the guy and made a move for Murray when they had the shot. The likelihood that Love becomes Mahomes is minuscule and Murray is a tough level to reach, but if you think you have a franchise QB you have to take them every time in my opinion. I think Miami needs to do it this year if they have a chance at Lawrence, Fields or Wilson. Thoughts?

This season has allowed me to sift through my feelings. I always knew that I hated Tom Brady, the Patriots and their fans. I thought I hated the Patriots organization the most, but I’m realizing my order or disdain goes; 1) Patriots fans I am friends with a bunch from college, but oh boy they’re unbearable. Most of them are so uninformed and entitled it’s embarrassing. They’re just humongous trolls. Then going to a game there last year cemented my feelings towards Pats fans. 3 separate instances I had to swoop in and stop random fans from getting physical and jumping my buddy. I was behind with a few of our Pats fan friends and was wearing a big coat over my Bills jersey so I blended in, he had a Bills jersey on (we all lived in the same college house, and outside of this Bills fan friend they were all my teammates) I literally saw a group point and single him out on the way into the stadium and come up and surround him. Two of my Pats friends and I had to come up and swoop him up out of there. Not a pretty scene. Leaving the stadium was worse, we all got separated and my Bills fan friend and I were trying to navigate our way out of the stadium. He got caught in a swarm and they were shoving him around like a kid on the playground and dumping beer and food on him. I had to slide through and grab him again, took a shot to the face and strategically slide behind a condiment table to separate us. They kept coming but I gave the first guy a stiff shot to the ribs and the group realized I knew what I was doing in a fight. Mind you, neither of us looked/said/gestured anything at any point. The worst part was nobody else stepped in at any point. I’ve had to step in at numerous Bills games, but at least people do it. Pats fans were almost cheering it on. 2) Tom Brady His behavior and presence embodied the worst things about the Patriots and their fans. He just egged it on and made it worse. He’s so difficult to like, I’m fairly certain nobody outside of NE does. 3) The Patriots The organization as a whole is whatever. Belichick is a great coach, and I respect that so much. I don’t really have issues with greatness. It’s the behavior of the groups listed above that make it intolerable.

Wallace wasn’t really a 1 year deal. He was a UDFA, which means he’s a RFA every year until he reaches his the proper amount of service time and the Bills just have to tender him a contract at the minimum threshold to retain him.

Pretty wild how much easier it was for them to move the ball with Fitzpatrick at QB. Tua will start next week against the Jets and should look fine/get the win. Same thing with the Bengals. Games against KC, NE, LV and Buffalo will be a much different story. Going to be a tough stretch for him... if the defense doesn’t bail him out like they did against AZ and LA then it’s probably best to start Fitzpatrick.

Lmao. This is all gut. I think Mitch has a similar skill set to Josh, at least closer then Barkley. Mitch will come pretty cheap because he’s been bad in Chicago. Bills liked Trubisky coming out of college. I just think it makes a lot of sense. Haha it never ends! I also think that Nagy gets fired this year and both Daboll and Bienemy get HC jobs. I wouldn’t be shocked if we pursued Nagy to be our OC (was McDermott’s first choice when he came here I believe, then Childress and eventually we hired Dennison), but I bet he ends up in KC. Dorsey will likely become OC. All speculation of course.
