he had no intention of retiring

it was all a show to SELL HIS BRAND.

Did you read the bit about the tampering angle?

He wanted an out because he didn’t like Ariens calling him out when the offense stuttered.

30 days off, the same as every other NFL player is not a retirement.

Even is any of that was true, you can't sue him over an auction he had zero to do with.  That was what was mentioned.  He didn't organize or profit from the ball auction, so you can't sue him for unretiring.  It makes zero sense.

One of these guys had the comforts of a dome and a game in Jacksonville every year - and walked in as a rookie with Nuke Hopkins on the team.

The other guy is a winner and his win/loss record and total yards blows the loser and sexual predator away.

To be fair, one has played 7 more games as well, and on a better team.

What about a 5 year rookie deal at WR?  Who do we have after this year besides Diggs and Davis?  And there is prob now way we can keep both of them beyond this year. We can’t have 45-50 million a year tied up into 2 receivers.

Unless Davis has a HUGE year there is no way he is commanding top of the league money next year.  Plus, he is under contract for 2 more years, not 1.  The dude had an amazing postseason but has been under 600 yards 2 years in a row.

What's your thoughts on the way they handled the situation with Baker, among other things? I can imagine that many, or most Browns fans probably don't have much confidence in Browns management.

It all depends on what really happened.  The Browns FO says they talked to Baker around the time of the combine about possibly pursing an elite QB if one came available.  If they did, then I have no issue with that part of it.  If they didn't then that's not right.

Andrew Berry SEEMS to be pretty straightforward, so I would like to believe he is truthful, but Haslam is shady so who knows.

OJ was never honored after his trial, and I doubt he will be part of the new stadium.  He was put on the wall in 1980.  Jim Brown's statue was put up in 2016, long after he was accused of multiple rapes and assaults on women.  I'm sure all of those incidents were just lying women or misunderstandings though.

Like I said, I have no idea if they are true or not.  If they are, he should be prosecuted fully, just like any other criminal/rapist/sex offender.  I'm not defending Brown or Watson, or anyone for that matter.  I have no idea if the allegations are true.  I see some weird circumstances from both sides in the Watson case.  I didn't want them to trade for him, but here we are.

The Browns role as lovable loser is long gone.  Their all time face of the franchise, Jim Brown, is a rapist.  They erected a statue of him outside the stadium.  Their current face of the franchise is a sexual predator.  They just made him one of the highest paid players in league history and structured his deal in a way that allows him to avoid significant losses if he is suspended.  Have the Browns taken the dirtbag title from the Chiefs?!

And OJ is on the Bills Wall of Fame.  Jim Brown was also never convicted.  I have no idea if he is truly guilty or not.  Same as Watson.  I don't love the the trade just because of everything involved and not knowing what is true.  Also, the whole contract thing is also crap.  I don't agree with that either.

He had a weird season with Cleveland last year. Coaching staff had a tough time deciding whether to sit an injured Baker, play Keenum, they even resorted to playing Mullens over both of them at one point.

They must feel just as confident with Mullens to fill in for a suspended Watson this season. Reading what Browns fans have to say and they are pretty similar talents but Mullens is cheaper.

Edit: Nvm, see they signed Brissett

Mullens played because Mayfield and Keenum had Covid

A true franchise QB does not get himself in the position he has been in. He played well, but did not win anything. We shall see if he becomes a franchise QB.  My money would be on the downside, especially with Cleveland.

I see an overhyped guy with athletic ability, who failed to work and study hard enough to elevate his team before he was unmasked. IMHO

The dude has the 2nd highest passer rating in NFL history. If you don't like him for the off the field stuff, that's perfectly reasonable.  I get that, I'm not thrilled with the trade either.  But quit acting like he is some mediocre QB. You have no idea what his work habits are.

Honestly got worse with him. Hated by fans, no draft picks and no cap left to help him.

The fans that are ok with him will turn sour quickly with what he has to work with.

Just saw that at least the first year,  Watson will only cist $10m against the cap,  actually saving $8.5m vs Mayfield this year,  so they should still have money for some more help.

Considering there will probably be at least 3 PO teams that come out of the AFCW this year it's going to be very tough for the Browns to make the playoffs unless it's via division title and still see nothing on paper that indicates they are better than a (healthy) Ravens and Bengals team right now to surpass either of them.

I mean, Cleveland beat the pants off Cincy in the only game they played that mattered last year. The issue the entire year was QB play, and I like Mayfield.

I don't love the trade. Wouldn't even say I like the trade, but don't act like Baltimore and Cincy are insurmountable. Not even close.

Yeah let’s see how he does after all that talk about how, much it’s aboit team for him, and how much the relationship with the gm is so much better now. Haha!  200$ mil / 50 mil a year MAY calm KAARON , but something tells me nothing can stop a full blown diva who was so worried when one press guy refused to vote for him for mvp.   This should be good! 😄. I love it; couldn’t happen to a sweeter guy !

To be fair, the guys wouldn't vote for him due to his stance on Covid, which isn't football related at all.  That's kind of messed up.

Great how many Super Bowls does that have us

honestly lol allen played his best game ever and we still lost… now we are without Hughes but we are supposed to be excited about the moves so far lol

    i guess man

    He needs HELP

he played more than good enough to advance and we still LOST

great plan sit Pat and put more on Allen’s plate while the chargers and others are doing everything possible to support Herbert

To be fair, Herbert is on his rookie deal, so the Chargers CAN do more to help him.  There is a $9m difference in cap hit this year, and a whopping $31m difference.  They have a lot more flexibility to support him.

The browns are hilarious. They only saved about 3 mil on this deal. He's gonna be a pat by the end of this though right?  Curse of Baker.

No. They saved $9m this year,  but it will add $3m in dead cap the next 2 years I believe.

Sounds like revisionist history to me.  Before the draft it was always all the stories were the Browns were going to pick Darnold with a sudden shift to Mayfield about two weeks before the draft.  I don't  remember a peep about the Browns thinking about Allen.

Theses stories happen with every missed pick - like Flores wanted Herbert or Pegula wanted Mahomes. The only one I believe is that the Cardinals wanted Allen instead of Rosen because those stories came out immediately after the draft.

That's not true at all.  The big rumor leading up to the draft was Allen.  Just whether or not Dorsey would pull the trigger on a raw QB. The Mayfield rumor came out like a day or 2 ahead of the draft.  There was a ton of Allen talk during and in the weeks after the combine.

Calling it now:  He’s gonna go to the Falcons.  Allen Robinson and Will Fuller are going to join him there.

Deal will be done tomorrow or Thursday.

At this point,  that's what I'm hoping for.  Then get Matt Ryan to Cleveland for a couple years while grooming a young QB. Watson scares me with the baggage and potential suspension.  And hopefully deal Mayfield to Seattle since they alienated him.

I don't think a single GM would take Watson over Allen right now

I think there are plenty that would if you go back a year and not all the off the field stuff comes into play. Obviously given the last year then I agree with you that no one would take Watson over Allen.

And as a Browns fan I'm not sure I want to make the trade for Watson just simply given what it will take to get him.  Especially since there's still a decent chance he gets suspended for part of this year or next.

Cle have you even been paying attn to the antics of cooper over the years?

WHen you scream at your QB in the middle of a game (Dallas) come on man

That happens a lot. Diggs screamed at, ironically,  Kevin Stefanski on the sidelines the last year he was there. And he complained almost that entire year.

Diggs seems to be a good dude. But it's always funny to see how hypocritical people are when it comes to guys on their team.
