You can't exclude penalties, they are part of the OL play. They needed to hold to prevent the jail breaks. Granted Peterman was -0.94 fantasy points bad. He is an epic failure, but Josh was under a good deal of pressure too. Josh felt it, moved in the pocket and made some nice throws, many of which were dropped or bounced off a receiver. Nate needs to be finished and start working on his sales resume.

Nailed it ... cut Peterman, bring in Matt Moore or some other available free agent, and move on.

I'd take Jay Cutler at this point.

    I disagree.

We probably have the least talented team in the league.

Coaching was a big reason we overachieved last year.

The players simply didn't execute. We got dominated on both lines, and our QBs were awful.

One QB was awful - the other got no help from the receivers. But I do have to see the tape to confirm ...

Ive changed my mind a few times over the past month, but I think they go with Peterman Week 1..

Im not down on Allen at all, and think that his play his preseason has been above my expectations, but I don't see what putting him out there to cop a beating for the first month or so will achieve...

Hopefully the OL looks a bit better around Week 7 or so and you can bring him in then for the rest of the year...

How many 1st team defenses has Peterman seen so far ?

Even Tom Brady would've been crushed behind that pathetic excuse for an OL today.

With that being said, I'm in favor of either McCarron or Peterman in Game 1. Allen needs a year or maybe more.

McDermott is lucky Allen didn't get a concussion on that one play.

Manziel was in love with celebrity and had no interest in X's and O's.  He admitted as much in a recent interview.  Naturally, no one knows who will hit and who will miss.  Everyone is making an educated guess, but Mayfield's commitment to football is lightyears better than where Manziel was.

Wasn't Mayfield scheduled to do some pre-draft reality show ?

He's not Manziel.  That's a lazy comparison.  Mayfield is an intense football competitor.  He has a pretty high floor, imo.  Allen has the highest ceiling, but he is much more of a gamble.  I would be happy with either, so I don't feel the need to denigrate one player to promote another . . . unless you're advocating for Mason Rudolph :P

C'mon - as with me, you have no idea if Mayfield will be successful as a pro. Manziel was an intense competitor in college too. Both have had off-field issues.

But you can't use college accuracy to compare.

I would compare this to the Bills’ development of EJ.  Personally, I think it was an absolute joke and the ruined any chance of him developing.  But the difference is EJ was at least hard working and wanted to succeed.

Johnny destroyed his own development.  He is just another entitled rich kid who finds ways to blame others.  I could be wrong but I think he is using the partying as a reason why he didn’t succeed.  He just isn’t good enough and the Browns wasted a pick on him.

Another reason to take off-field antics into consideration and not just look at college stats ... makes me wonder about Mayfield.

My thinking exactly, and I don't think you wait unitl free agency is over, and all the QBs are gone save one (AJ), pay him 5 M/yr, because you're interested in a project draft pick (Allen). The Browns are another story, they may feel like TT can give them a 1-2 years.

I think A.J. was a last resort for the Bills after trading TT as their UFA options ran out pretty quick. And I don't believe any of the top 4 QBs are stepping right in and taking over and certainly would not consider starting one behind the current Bills' OL a la Peterman. Bills need to get the holes filled before they stick a new QB in there.

And A.J. just might be a pleasant surprise ...
