I don't disagree with anything you said.

Rosen doesn't want to sit his first year though, and there is 0% chance Eli is NOT the starter this year.

You could argue he is on his last year there, even though he has 2 on the contract, but unless he retires, i don't see the giants cutting him even after this year.

Jets are on the hook for mccown (10 mil), bridgewater ($6 mil i think), so I highly doubt he'd want to go there and then sit behind mccown for a year also, since I doubt they'd pay Mccown $10mil to sit on the bench.

Denver might not be terrible, but again, sitting behind Keenum, and Denver is on the hook for him for 2 years, for a bunch of $$.

I know people say NYG love Darnold, but there is NO way he's sitting 2 years behind Eli, so he's about the only guy I could see go there and force Eli out after a year.

Going back to Rosen, from the top teams, Buffalo is probably his best chance to start.

Again, I'm like you and have NO idea other than speculation, but none of those places seem ideal for a guy who wants to start, and should start, day 1.

Buffalo is his best shot to start day 1.

Anyway, I donno if we will get him, and frankly, at this point, I'm completely clueless as to what we might do, or who might even allow us to trade up.

I don't see any of the 4 top QBs starting the 1st year and it may be a big mistake to plug Rosen in behind the Buffalo OL his first year and have him running for his life

Also, unless we seriously upgrade our WRs, who is he going to throw to ?  Let A.J. earn his $ this year as I don't expect much from the BIlls and certainly not the playoffs.

    Hope I'm wrong.

True. But notwithstanding the fact that they were a good team before Wentz arrived, pointing out that he won two national championships doesn't exactly diminish my point that Wentz did better against inferior competition than Allen did. I get it: Allen's surrounding cast stunk. But again, so did his competition, and it doesn't seem to me like he did enough to elevate his team or to show that he's anything more than a list of physical traits that don't necessarily add up to a starting caliber NFL quarterback.

If you're throwing to a bunch of guys that either can't catch or can't get open, your stats are gonna suffer. And if they can't get open against inferior DBs, that makes it even tougher for Allen to up his completion %.

I would think it's fairly obvious that Mayfield, Rosen & Darnold had a better cast of characters on offense than Allen. Let's see how many offensive players are drafted out of OU, USC & UCLA vs Wyoming.

Ain't that the truth.  I'm a Buckeye fan who hates JT Barrett.  I've had to see "stats" supporters claim he's good because he would shovel the ball to Jalin Marshall who would take it 60 yards to the house.  All you see by looking at the numbers is "60 yard TD pass".

And obviously the shorter the passes, generally the higher the completion %s.

I mean, fair enough..but while Allen was surrounded by inferior skill position players, he was also playing AGAINST inferior skill position players.

If a guy comes out of a lesser conference, I want to see that he DOMINATED that conference. Wentz dominated in college. Allen, on the other hand, threw only 16 TDs this season. Not encouraging, given that he was going against all those vaunted Mountain West defenses ever week!

Allen missed 3 games though so the 16 TDs probably would be higher.

If Allen played at Oklahoma, with their talent and coaching, I would have to believe the stats would say something VERY different than at Wyoming.  If completion % is really hanging people up, circumstances come into play.

Right on ... circumstances like length of passes thrown , quality of receivers, ability of receivers to get open, offensive scheme,  wind/weather, etc

Yards after catch can make a QB look really good at times.

I feel the same way about Allen.  I know he played at Wyoming and doesn't have the greatest talent to work with but also didn't play against higher level competition consistently.

His production is just lacking for me.

I haven't seen Allen play a lot so I'm relying on what other "experts" are saying about him and the video I've seen....both highlights, lowlights and breakdowns.  His accuracy is just so inconsistent I'm not sure it can be fixed.

Russell Wilson played in the ACC his 1st 3 years and was sub 60% completion. Transferred to Wisconsin and was 70 +.  If Wilson had come out after his junior year, folks would have said the same thing about him.

I would like to think Allen would have improved his senior year, but no way to really know. I'm sure part of his decision was related to how Wyoming was looking for next year.

It is ridiculous that Colin Kaepernick had a successful career including 2 trips to NFC Championship and 1 Super Bowl and in in his prime gets ZERO interest.  Yet a guy who had a short un productive career is for some reason getting interest.

If it were up to me, I'd sign Colin today and name him the presumptive starter.  Stop screwin' around Beane.

Ridiculous as he can play, but there is no question he is blacklisted due to the kneeling.

I don't know why they went back to 1990.  Wholly irrelevant IMO unless there's a rationale that just isn't detailed there.

The quarterback of 1991 isn't the one you needed in 2000.  The QB of 2000 isn't the one you need in 2018.

A guy like Jeff George would be a 2nd round pick today.  Sure, can throw the ball a country mile but very inaccurate.

But somehow stayed in the NFL for 11-12 years

In another thread I posted a list of teams whose need for a QB to be drafted in this upcoming draft into 4 categories.

My assessment is that currently 17 teams have no need to use a draft pick at the QB position.

    4 are must draft

7 have Needs but have higher priority needs

4 have needs round 2 or later.

As I review the available QB's there may not be 15 worthy of a draft selection.

Your thoughts on this post and can you identify the teams in each category?

    I'll take a shot ...

The 4 must drafts are the Browns / Jets / Bills / Cardinals

    Next 7 are Saints / Steelers / Dolphins / Broncos / Giants / Chargers / Ravens

Last 4 are Patriots / Colts /  Packers / Redskins

    How'd I do ?

Very possible that the Broncos take Chubb in that scenario. Or Barkley if the Browns have taken him already. It's honestly hard to imagine that QBs would go 4 our of the first 5 picks. Nothing close to that has ever happened in the history of the draft that I'm aware of.

True, but I don't think we've ever seen 4 QBs hyped like this year and so many teams needing QBs.

Unless Arizona comes up I see only Darnold and Rosen going in the top 11 picks.  Browns and Jets going QB.

Giants and Browns at 2 & 4 are taking a different direction, Broncos and Colts may use their position to trade out with a team like Arizona who may decline based on Mayfield, Allen, Jackson and to a lesser degree Rudolph being available and only Buffalo positioned to take a QB ahead of them.

So I honestly see the Bills having their pick of Mayfield, Allen, Jackson or Rudolph at 12 and not seeing another highly probable QB team need other then Arizona at 15.

The question is, if this scenario plays out, who do the Bills select?

I say Allen, but most here will say Mayfield.

All depends on the G-men and whether they take Rosen at #2 - then Mayfield goes #3 to the Jets and Allen #5 to the Broncos.

  13. Gotta wonder if another team that needs a QB will try and jump the Bills and Dolphins @ 11.

    Definitely need QBs - Browns / Giants / Jets / Cardinals / Chargers / Saints / Steelers

Possible QBs - Broncos / Dolphins / Saints / Steelers / Patriots / maybe even Ravens

    Thoughts ?

Bills have so many holes to fill they'd be wise to use all of their draft picks; and judging by the way Mara's been talking about OBJ, there's no guarantee that he'll be re-signed. DE, LB, RB, OT, OG, WR, CB are all needs they need to fill before they even think about taking a QB IMO. They've lost so many pieces this offseason. JPP, DRC, Justin Pugh, were all key pieces.

I think this deal gets done on draft day.
