How about we have two undersized young players, one that is currently injured, that have shown no ability to play in an NFL game. A career back up that likely should not be on an NFL roster. And an UDFA that has been essentially a practice squad talent that is the current starter, yet was playing with 3rd/4th stringers last preseason game. Oh and we just signed some random USFL guy that weighs a buck 25. Does that make you feel better? Good news is Rashaan Evans and Javon Brown are still unsigned, bad news is we likely dont make a move.
-
Slim pickings but I would take a flyer on a Rashaan Evans. Jayon Brown is out there. Nothing to lose Beanester except them being better than our current stable.
-
People always say this but then we wind up with Klein, Brown, Beasley, Marlowe, Lawson and the Carolina retreads. I see more signing guys he knows than leaving every rock unturned. The these issues are not due to surprises or injuries. Any average Bills fans has talked about MLB, WR, OL for several years now. Beane and McD get to run the show and are making the decisions. As fans we get to discuss what they are doing. Unfortunately the reality is the decision made at these positions has hurt the team the past few years and could be worse this year. Hopefully not.

Well I guess that is part of the point. He drafted Bernard and Williams to replace Edmunds? Using thirds on both. Did many people really think either was the answer at MLB? With free agent $ he resigned Dodson and Klein. Did anyone think that was the answer? Maybe McD thinks they can just plug anyone in that position or he thinks he/Beane think Bernard or Williams are the answer because he drafted him. I would rather have at least one ILB that can get the job done while those guys develop - Wagner, David, Long, Perryman, Bush, Alexander all signed deals that were manageable but we decided to bring back Dodson, Klein, Matakevich. Heck we spent another $7M on Floyd. We could have done that and still not impacted the money to spend on the O.

I have the 2023 NFL season results here

Patriots, Steelers replaced by Chargers, Fins. Packers, Hawks, Falcons replaced by Giants, Lions, Bears. -
It’s not like guys like Bobby Wager, Lavante David, David Long, Devin Bush were available.

Good news.

The bills just signed an RB and OL. That is my point. Not saying I expect a starter to be picked up but they are not even taking a look. We have seen this before. I think on D McD thinks he can make anything work. Until it doesn’t. Last year we saw Klein picked up and starting days later.

It’s hard to understand the lack of action bringing in an MLB. We have brought in random RB and OL just to make a few. We clearly have lack of talent and depth at MLB but what has this team done? Are we waiting for cuts? Some believe the starting MLB is not even on this roster right now.

Few things not being talked about concerning this offense.

Not much talk of WR production. I expected to see more from Harty and Sherfield as #3 and #4 WR's. Saving it for the real Sunday's? Or is this going to be an issue. -
Worse preseason performance in quite a number of years. And game 2 is when starters play the most so you expect some solid play. Last year it was the 42-15 win vs DEN when Josh led a 70 yd TD drive and was done. Bills led 28-6 at half with TD's on all 4 drives.
-
You look at the pieces of preseason games not the results. Who cares if your team wins, but you want your starters to look good in the few drives they have. You want the rookie to impress you. The battle for a position watch. You dont want dumb mistakes. A rookie to look lost. The new player not looking like an upgrade. A player returning from an injury looking slow. Dalton Kincaid has looked the part. So has Torrence. The false starts and penalties are concerning. The lack of preparation as well. Gabe Davis looks healthy. Cook does not look ready to carry the load. At least we have a decent RB room. Our new WR additions have not stood out. Harty and Sherfield have a few plays here and there but expected more. OL troubles have become more alarming than eased. We have a lot of capable guys on DL. MLB is a huge concern. Especially when our DB's look slow. The special teams game has not be stellar. And so forth. Scores dont matter, but that stuff does.
-
Types of penalties matter. PI, holds, etc are one things. Its the false starts that shows a lack of preparation. I went back and looked at last years penalties and not nearly the level of false starts and especially not by starting units.
-
False starts should not being happening like they did. That is 100% lack of focus and preparation. Its one thing to not play well. But those types of things are a concern.
-
Easy to read into to stuff when things like this are happening. But it did seem much of last year there was not a ton of energy with the team. A lot of going through the motions. Who knows, maybe they never recovered from 13 seconds? Maybe there are internal issues around what guys are getting rehired, extended, etc? Or maybe there is nothing. The people in the room are the only ones that really know.
-
We sucked. No sugar coating it. Our starters were worse than Steelers starters and back ups. Josh was quickly bailing the pocket even when OL blocked. Cook could not hit the holes. The play calling only worked on kick slants. Everything else was a mess. The D could not stop anything. Special teams sucked. A bazillion penalties. This was a classic stinker.

I can’t think of a single positive in this game. 7 penalties O can’t sustain a drive D gives up long run and could not stop anything punt team sucked penalty on kick off mlb clearly bad secondary looks slow cook 3 for 3, that is 3 yards -
