  1. The WR starters for Game #1 are pretty set but yes, a WR in the first 2 days is pretty much mandatory.
  2. Josh will need to work on his timing with Crowder. That's probably Job #1. His swing/screens with Devin and Duke is probably second. In his general passing I believe one of his weakest (if you can call it that) is his WR screens. I'm not sure if that was play designs or bad timing with Josh and the WRs but there seems to be a lot of room for improvement. All that said it's not a lot to worry about. I would imagine he wants to work on QB generalship and manipulating defenses even more!
  3. You bring up some good points. Safford has played some RG. Good stuff to watch for come the summer.
  4. I'm loving every minute of it.
  5. It's most definitely his last chance this training camp.
  6. My hope is this move amounts to nothing more than the Titanic and Andrea Doria trading their deck chairs!
  7. Yeah I posted they have that wrong. Also Safford at RG. It's most likely Bates RG and Safford LG. I'm sure they will get that changed. Not to sure who handles the site but I found it a good tool to use at this time of year. Bills have nothing "official" until later in the year.
  8. I can see them trying to trade for a vet QB but I don't think they will be in a great position to draft one. They should field a decent team so their 1st won't be that high of a pick and the other is the 49ers. I guess we will see next year.
  9. Not really. Their first pick this year is a compensatory 3rd rounder. Thye got 2 1sts next year and now 2 3rds. I wouldn't call that "stacked". IMO.
  10. Stroud has a good chance of being drafted. That's why I was figuring to use a 6th on him. One thing I believe the Bills don't want to have happen is a few of the top rated punters go and they end up with a guy that can't knock off Haack from the roster. I know it's "just a punter" but I don't see a player from Pick #185 having a reasonable chance other than a ST player making the roster. I'm finding it hard to see it any other way.
  11. Looking at the depth roster I see CB, WR and IOL in the first 3 rounds. I am on board with RB, OT, LB and TE as later picks. Really like to see a punter in the 6th. Get a guy to push Haack off the roster and hope he is around for a long time.
  12. Agree and I'm sure that is what Beane and McDermott are hoping for too. It's going to be a big year for AJ Epenesa. He needs to make a move to show he is NFL worthy. The DL roster also give Basham another year to learn. At least one needs to step and show their draft worth. If both improve things are looking great for the future.
  13. LOL, that is my opinion too. You add the starters and 2nd players plus the 3 ST guys and that's 47. Only 6 spots from the remaining depth chart. I thought of posting this after discussions on later round draft picks.
  14. Full contract signing bonus. That's what "dead money" would be if cut. 1st year total salary for a 6th is around $760K.
  15. Much thanks '59! The site also has Safford as RG which probably isn't happening. I am curious as to what fans think about the starters and depth at DL.
  16. I stumbled onto a fairly good site giving the Bills current (as of March 31st) Depth Chart. They seem pretty good at keeping it updated. https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/BUF We all know a vet CB may be in the UFA picture and of course a new Punter. Not a lot of holes at all and I'm interested as to what members of the board see as issues needed to be addressed. NOTE: I don't know why they put Bates as a backup when we all know he is penciled in as the starter. HELP: I tried getting a screen shot to post but I'm having trouble. If anyone can do that I'm sure others would appreciate it. I will EDIT the OP if someone does that to make it easier to reference.
  17. True and I'm sure it's being discussed at OBD. The downside is a 6th rounded when cut gets his rookie contract signing bonus. Bills first 6th rounder is $218K. Not a lot but then like you said he may also get "poached". I for one am interested in how Beane uses the Day #3 picks this year with the roster as well filled out as it already is.
  18. Every year this stuff is talked about. Do I think Beane could move up a few spots in the 1st? Yes Could Beane use some Day #3 picks to move up in Day#2. Yes Is there a chance that a vet who is not in the long-term plans for the Bills get traded? Yes The only vets I see who could do anything significant and MAYBE traded is Edmunds or Poyer. I doubt it but those would be my guess. Both of these guys are UFAs next year and I don't see Beane signing both to extensions. The deal is IF one is traded a high pick (1-3) would be used to replace that player. One thing I do know is 8 rookies are not making the team this year with the current roster. I believe Beane makes a move or even two, but it won't be a "blockbuster" one like some people are hoping for.
  19. When it comes to this site's GDTs, I could live without all the posts about commentators during the game. Why it gets people all upset is hard for me to understand. Personally, I think most of the play-by-play announcers do a pretty good job and that's what I care about the most. Color commentators I put into categories of "guys who talk about football like none of us have ever watched it" and pure "fanboys" of the better teams and star players. I'm lucky I guess on being able to "tune them both out".
  20. The NFL has a veteran program that allows certain minimum salary players to take a smaller cap hit.
  21. Agree. I was one of the posters who used "perfect" that seemed to upset @BullBuchananso I will expound on my statement. 1. I believe that the Bills and Bates/his agent did have long term contract talks. It seems very logical to me. 2. I think that Bates wanted more than Beane initially wanted to pay. What those numbers were we probably will never know. 3. If above is true it's back on Beane. His choice was the $2.4M or the 2nd Round Tender. Most of my posts were about which was a smarter choice. I at first thought the 2nd like many others. BUT it would of left Bates on the team for a 1 year contract (highly doubtful anyone would of paid a 2nd). Bates would of most like started and Beane would of had to go through all this again next year for what I believe much more money for a long term contract. 4. So Beane let Bates talk to other teams. Without a lot of tape on him the Bills know better what his worth is vs other teams. 5. Bates got an offer and Beane no doubt said I can live with that. In conclusion I said Beane played this "perfectly" because he gets Bates on a contract he can live with and Bates has to be happy to return to Buffalo knowing he is getting the best that he can get. Win, win for everyone. What's left is to hope Bates will play up to or above his contract numbers.
  22. They complement each other. TEAM.
  23. Shout out for the Sabres with a game winning goal with 10 seconds left. Team is turning around!
  24. Agree with quality of quantity but with the exception of CB. P and a KR none of these rookies will probably crack a starter role. They will be in the mix later in the season and next year. It's about filing the pipeline.
  25. Caution: LAMP It's what I have posted numerous times in these Bates threads. Beane played this perfect. IF Beane put a 2nd Round Tender on Bates no teams would of bid on him. Then the Bills would of had him as a starter at $4M for 1 year. Next year after Bates was starting he would be an UFA wanting a LOT more. Beane is playing "Pinochle" and the rest are playing "Go Fish".
