Preston Brown was drafted in the third round out of Louisville in 2014 and was expected to be a backup behind the starting trio of Kiko Alonso, Brandon Spikes, and Nigel Bradham. A season-ending injury to Alonso, however, meant he was pushed into the starting lineup sooner than expected and tallied 94% of the team’s defensive snaps on the year, the highest percentage on the Bills’ defense. Grading out 15th overall among 4-3 outside linebackers, Brown’s season mark of +3.9 was held down by a pair of poor performances. Looking past those two games (Week 1 and Week 16, both ends of the season, understandable for a rookie), Brown notched a +11.5 grade over the other 14 contests. There are two clear strengths to Brown’s game: the first is as a coverage defender and the second as a pure tackler. Posting impressive numbers when in coverage, he allowed just 0.57 yards per coverage snap, which was third-best for all off-ball linebackers and his +3.6 coverage grade came in 11th among all 4-3 OLBs and ILBs combined. The moments he showed some struggle in coverage were nearly all down to over-aggressiveness in reacting up to the run first and having trouble getting back to find his zone. I don't think we have his replacement now.

I hope they are careful. McDermott seems great at drawing up coverage. That said I remember the days with Schobel and Denney and all the other undersized misfits and getting destroyed week after week. We already have issues stopping the run. Brown might not be great in coverage like Keuchly and Keuchly is a really good LB but I still like Brown.

Just my opinion. I stand by it though. In the right system I'm sure he makes a ton of tackles but he's not going to knock guys down. Actually looking at it they are 21 in giving up yards and giving up almost 25 ppg. I don't know the Redskins enough to speak to why they are horrible on defense but that doesn't speak well to how good Brown is.

I think they were right when they said Poz was a chaser. So was Zach Brown. Great numbers but tackling everyone 5 yards down the field. Brown will blow up the rb behind the line of scrimmage twice as much as either of those guys. Poz and Zach might have a touch more speed, maybe a little more coverage ability but in a zone scheme and wanting someone who can stick his nose in there and make a tackle I'd take Preston.

Romo is carrying Brady's jock again today. I have to suffer through a lot of Patriots games. I've seen enough Brady to know he's not as accurate as he used to be and that Pats defense is not the same without Hightower. Lucky for the Pats the competition is pretty weak this year. Romo's still talking him up like every miss is on purpose and the greatest throw ever.

In all honesty the great difference in minds, offensive or defensive, is how fast they see the solutions and make the changes that produce. From a personel standpoint Milano and Thompson are two players that stepped on the field and produced yet still took 4 or 5 games to move ahead of their far less productive rivals at their positions. From a play calling perspective Dennison took way to long to start calling plays that work for his players and then in a game to game break down it wouldn't be a stretch to say Dennison might be the worst screen game coach that has ever called a game. Chan Gailey would have McCoy putting up old Marshal Faulk numbers. McVay is just much much faster at producing offense. Luckily for him he has Phillips to take care of the defense and that has been Buffalo's failure time and time again. Fix one side of the ball and neglect the other and it usually starts with coaching.

In the 15 games in which LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Charles Clay were all on the field, Taylor has a 64-percent completion rate, throwing for 3,362 yards for 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions. In the 14 games in which one of those players weren’t available, Taylor’s numbers sunk, as he completed just 61.2-percent of his passes for 2,697 yards, throwing only 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. My comment would be that it seems like maybe he needs a decent receiver to throw to.

I defend the crap out of him but tell me you can bring in Drew Brees and I'd buy Taylor's bus ticket. We aren't bringing in Drew Brees. No guarantee in drafting someone. I'd do it anyways. I wouldn't however burn my bridge until I've crossed it. We could be a good team. We could be a good team with Taylor. Now if we become that good team and actually draft that "franchise" guy. Sky is the limit.

That's where you are wrong. I am not the one saying anyone is better. I was simply replying to someone who was commenting on my avatar. I don't have to make a case for Taylor being better than Spikes. I don't care. I can however comment that Spike in no way accomplished one damn thing while he was here. So if you are going to throw stones you probably should not live in a glass house.

Spikes went 21 and 27 and had a team with pro bowl WR's and QB and a top defense. I'm not sure there's anything you and your avatar are going to say to make me feel bad about running with Taylor until they replace him.

Why does it have to be held against anything. It's simple Ben is out and they won more than they lost. Brady is out and they win more than they lose. Tell me how we've done with out Taylor? Winning is when you win more than you lose. I'm not even sure what the hell you are talking about.

You do realize that 13 and 11 is winning? You are claiming one thing and proving another. You are arguing for arguings sake.

I'm not doing the work for you but needless to say it's a fact. Brady is easy to look up. 11 and 4 one season and 3 and 1 another without Brady. Ben is more sporadic but it's there if you really care. The Steerlers have had several stretches with Ben hurt and managed to win. We have plenty of work to do to be a good team. QB is just one position. Granted an important one but if we can't win with Taylor we probably are not SB bound just by drafting a "franchise" QB.

Steelers don't have Ben they still win. Pats don't have Brady they still win. Many good teams are just that, good teams. They're not getting rolled on for 300 yards rushing and 6 TD's. Sure there are teams with better QB's but look a little deeper. They also have better coaching, better pass catchers, better o-line, and a better defense. If they aren't better in those areas then they probably aren't doing any better than us. When was the last time Rivers won a SB?

Funny enough also is how the claim is how great they are somewhere else yet they are both being beat out by a rookie. I honestly think if they had Thompson signed and starting from the preseason on he'd have Watkins like numbers. Taylor loves a speed guy and it's his best pass. People want to argue pocket presence, I'll buy it. Holding the ball too long, you're absolutely right. Can Taylor throw? Yes he can. He misses some. They all do but he can throw. Taking the 15 yard sack yesterday was the kind of thing that can't happen though.
