Tyrod Taylor turning heads in Cleveland.
Maine-iac replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What makes this different than all the other "rebuildings"? Someone answer that question. Is hope all we've got? Am I wrong because I don't "trust" the process anymore. The Jaguars made the playoffs last year with good defense and Bortles. They continue to try to find better pass catchers and make the defense better. Who do you think will have more success over the next 3 to 5 seasons? That isn't a statement of me saying the Jaquars will but an honest question. We are playing the long game, really long. -

No and neither do you. Statistically he faced worse down and distance than most QB's and still produced. That is a fact. I'm not arguing about this all day. It's water under the bridge. I'm also not drinking the kool aid. We brought a new guy in who's been labeled by pro scouts a big armed project and he's being teamed up with a decimated OL and an OC with a less than stellar track record. It's not hard to imagine things going bad. -

Nobody wins based on yardage and that is the cry of the move on from Tyrod crowd. Hey you won. Now we just need results. We obviously did this to score points so when Allen puts up 24 plus ppg two seasons in a row I'll call the whole thing a success. That seems fair enough. I've even hoping he does. I'm just being honest saying that there is a huge risk involved. I think that is also fair. -

Remember when Taylor had Watkins and Woods, both on the field, and made the probowl in 14 games? Now watch with Landry and Gordon and promise me we will get better QB production in either of the next two seasons. -

Someone tell me how this "process" is different than Marrone with Schwartz/Pettine and Hackett in 2014/15? Is Daboll better than Hackett? We certainly don't have anywhere near the talent. How long until the "rebuild" starts yielding results. Bring in a different QB? I was on board with that. That said I we had 7 picks in the first 3 rounds and ended up with 3 players one of them being a QB who by all accounts needs work with accuracy and reading defenses. I stopped drinking the kool aid on coaches with "processes" a long time ago. A good coach comes in and changes the offense/defense from playing bad to playing well. You stop the other team from scoring and you yourself score more. You acquire more talent to do so. This idea that one player is the absolute beginning and end of it all is absurd. I will certainly hope for Allen's success because at this point the alternative is another 2/3 years in the crapper and most likely another regime change. -
Tell me again which coaches we have that have done great things with QB's and passing games.

Jay Cutler?
-
We'd be smart to take that trade.
-
Who's developing Allen? Daboll with his TE skills and 17ppg OC history or McDermott who's a DC by trade? I don't even hate the Allen pick so much as I don't think we have the OL, WR's, or coaching staff to develop anyone. If we had any real offensive minds we would have been able to score with the players we had last year like Lynn and Roman were able to do.
-
Somebody remind me again if Brady is strong armed or accurate? At least he is a big guy. With no OL left he'll take a pounding.
-
Per Bill Barnwell The Bills take the biggest risk from this quarterback class in Josh Allen, whose statistical profile draws similarities to the likes of Jake Locker and JaMarcus Russell. So the ceiling is Jay Cutler 2.0?

2018 Draft: 1st round discussion
Maine-iac replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We were doing everything right and then the Jets made the trade to cut in front of us and we have been falling on our faces ever since. They're now debating if improving accuracy is viable. Best case scenario we just drafted Cutler 2.0. -

How long will you give our new QB?
Maine-iac replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love how we talk about the huge need for a "franchise" QB but then think we can trade the 12th pick in the draft plus multiple other picks and then sit on our thumbs for years for them to be ready. Either this is old school play defense and sound offense bring the QB along over several seasons or this is the trade everything for a "franchise" QB, all in, the only way NFL that most of this board thinks it is. No way we are trading Cordy Glen, Dareous (essentially), plus the 12th pick in the draft to take a QB and then have a career backup start. If he's that good of a QB he'll be able to play week 1 with my only exception being if the OC is again incapable of dialing up a game plan that can keep the other team from eating us alive. -

A lot of this depends on the offense. If we draft a QB and Daboll has them throwing for 250 or 300 yards a game and we are scoring 21 plus points but he throws a few picks type of deal I will feel like we can get it together. If Daboll is super conservative and we push a rookie QB out there and he's throwing about as many times as Tyrod did but throwing more picks (because he's a rookie) and we are scoring 18 points a game and generally looking non competitive again I'm not going to blame the QB. At the very least I'm not going to start with the QB. Get an OC who knows how to run a competitive NFL offense. We have just as much riding on our pick at OC as we do any pick at QB. -
Will the 2018 Bills be better then the 2017 Bills???
Maine-iac replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You got me. Clearly I have failed to recognize the dynasty here. So new CB, LB's, DT on defense and then a whole new offense and outside of McCoy and KB an almost completely new set of players starting but other than that I suppose you're right. -

I can only hope that the board can forgive my carelessness. -

If I had your confidence ......... Not even being sarcastic. I've been doing this too long and feeling like they are losing the offseason like they lose the regular season is not fun. Wrong or right if I just felt like everything was great it would be nice. So sick of losing and then also feeling like they are going in the wrong direction. I'm all for drafting a QB but they've been outmanuevered as far as draft position and now we have little offensive line and no pass catchers. That's before we introduce a professional coach who's career point scoring average a little over 2 field goals. It's just too much. I need to step away. Come back for the preseason and hope the coaches and GM have made some fixes. -
Why is Kaelin Clay back on the roster?
Maine-iac replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...... because they couldn't throw Thompson a bone. I'll be surprised if Clay is on the roster for more than a couple games let alone all 16. -

To double down on this the fact is even if we are running the ball at all and McCoy is healthy they only really have to cover KB because there is no one else except for the handful of games that our TE's show up. If we don't get a lead we are not going to throw for wins. Even if we somehow pull off moving up and getting a "franchise" QB, and god forbid we miss on that pick, the line is desimated and our OC has done nothing in the NFL to show he's capable other than be really really like-able for what that's worth. That's just the offense. On defense we lost the guy who while not spectacular was the QB of the front 7 and Preston Brown can be replaced but as of now hasn't been. Again it's much like the Talyor situation. Could we arguably do better? Sure. Will we? There's a good chance we don't. No telling if Star is any better than Dareous and if the D is any better. Sure the secondary should be alright. They were all right last year but that doesn't mean much when teams are running for 200 yards and mulitiple TD's on you every week. The whole "plan/process" seemed legit until the Jets beat us to the punch trading up into the top 5. Now without trading the farm we are not in the hunt for one of the top 4 QB's of which I only like about 2. I believe in two things. Talent and coaching. If you have those two things the law of averages will usually work itself in your favor. We have coaching on the defense but we currently lost a considerable amount of talent and it's arguable that Dareous was one move too many last year. On offense we've been on an absolute skid for 3 straight seasons. They have been hemorrhaging talent on offense. Double that with the losses of Roman and Lynn, say what you want they could do better than Dennison and most likely will leave Badoll in the dust also. So this is really only my first or second post in months. I don't want to B word. So I'll lurk and wait and hope that they pull out some magic and make everything roses but for now in my mind a couple offseasons ago we were a decent DC away from being a good team and now we are doing the same old switch a roo that we do every 4 to 5 years. -
Literally the most entertaining thread I've read in months.
