Lol. Can’t believe some of u people wanted Brown on this team. Throwing his ex teammates under the bus. Imagine what he would’ve done to Allen if he couldn’t get the ball to him? Just like I said this would’ve been a train wreck for a young QB like Allen.

Why don’t you tell us what he would have “done to” Allen

...yup...AB is the ONLY weapon on the planet.......an astute observation.....SMH....

Antonio Brown has more td catches last season than Buffalo had passing TDS. Adding him makes it impossible for anyone to make excuses if Allen can’t produce. Right now it’s very possible I’m hearing excuses next offseason. Brown/Beasley have a combined 1 1,000 yard season.

I never said he’s the only weapon on the planet but thanks for putting words into my mouth. I’m only trying to give Beane credit for trading for the best player at our biggest need position. Beane didn’t back out Brown did.

    ....it's a BLESSING...........

Nope. Having the best receiver (or at least top 3) on what is essentially a 2 year deal when we have plenty of cap space this year and next would have been nice. Would have left no excuses for Allen.

There is no aspect of the AB deal that is a negative.

You didn’t counter anything he said. Just pointed out that it’s negative.

Stop with this. AB didn't want to come here it's a FACT.

    what?  this is strange.

are you sure you're not upset because zay had a more productive year this year than sammy?

don't get me wrong...zay has a long way to go, but your dislike for the guy boarders on...well, stupid.

edit:  on top of that, wouldn't you appreciate zay's step forward from his first to second year after having all that happen.  wouldn't most see that as somewhat of a good sign?

Hey just let me have an irrational level of hate for a player because he tried to jump out a window please.

.Is there a point you're driving at or do you actually want me to answer this question? If you've got a point, well...Pitter patter, let's get at 'er.

We had Sammy. All we had to do was not trade him and not draft Zay. Then maybe we could evaluate our young QB without making excuses for his lack of weapons.

Your point about maybin is interesting. At least Maybin wasn’t a negative by dropping passes. I’ll take a zero over a negative any day.

Aaron Maybin also never embarrassed himself and the franchise with a naked blood video in the off-season.

I’ll take Aaron Maybin today if it means Zay is cut.

Your post is kind of a perfect example of the undue Zay hate.

You just mentioned Zay Jones in the same breath as Aaron Maybin and EJ Manuel, both of whom were draft busts. Zay Jones is not a bust. He has not yet become an upper echelon NFL WR, that much is clear. But to mention him in the same breath as Aaron Maybin?

Zay Jones has 968 yards and 9 TDs across his first two NFL seasons, catching passes from guys like Tyrod Taylor, Nathan Peterman, Derek Anderson, Matt Barkley, and rookie Josh Allen. He had more touchdown receptions last year than AJ Green, Alshon Jeffrey, TY Hilton, Odell Beckham Jr, Keenan Allen, Robert Woods, etc.

Just for the sake of comparison, Bills all time great Eric Moulds had 573 yards and 2 TDs in his first two seasons, and he was catching passes from Jim Kelly in year 1.

Zay's no All Pro at this point. But he's far from a bust, and I think he'll be a #2 WR in the NFL for a long time.

What did Sammy have in his first two years? And who was throwing to him? Just curious

I'd say it turned out lousy as hell.

    • Sammy Watkins Round 1 Pick 4 Buffalo Bills.
    • Mike Evans Round 1 Pick 7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
    • Odell Beckham Jr. ...
    • Brandin Cooks Round 1 Pick 20 New Orleans Saints

Over 2,000 yards in first 2 seasons with Orton, EJ, and Tyrod throwing to him.

Still better than any receiver we’ve had since

    That's just not so, Scott.

They were in a crappy situation with the cap and that had a huge impact on their personnel decisions.

The Bills went into last year's offseason in the later twenties in cap space rankings, with somewhere around $28 mill. To be precise, $29.3 million on February 12th.

    https://buffalonews.com/2018/02/12/salary-cap-bills-have-more-space-but-too-much-dead-money/

But at that point, Wood had already retired, but his dead money hadn't yet officially hit the cap, because his resignation was not official. His $10 mill bonus money was finally at the end of May all put against the 2018 salary cap, which lost the Bills about $5.5 mill, as his salary had only been $4.8 mill. So in February, the Bills knew they effectively had about $23 mill. Which would have put them in the lower quarter of the rankings.

Yeah, they cut a few guys and got it up into the thirties but those cuts - Tyrod and a few others - left holes and were motivated partly if not largely by the need to make some money available. And that was before they re-signed Kyle for 2018.

Already in bad shape, they knew they had to make it worse by absorbing so much extra cap space into the 2018 salary cap figure to clear the space that they are now finally enjoying in the 2019 season.

And on March 14th, after dumping Tyrod, going into the FA period, they had about $37 million. Not $50. And again, the $5.5 mill they knew Wood would cost hadn't yet hit the official cap figures. So practically it was $31.5 mill.

More, this was after the Cordy Glenn trade to free up cap space and bring in draft capital. And yet going into FA they were still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay below their final dead money total. On March 13th, after the Glenn trade, they had only $36 mill in dead cap. As they ended up at around $70 mill, things clearly got a lot worse.

    https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2018/03/5_thoughts_and_a_grade_for_buffalo_bills_trading_cordy_glenn.html

Their lack of cap space was a huge factor on signings last year, especially with their intention, announced to the Pegulas, of cleaning up the cap situation by this year, which they did an excellent job of. Huge.

Whaley did it in 2014 when WR was the position of strength in that draft.

    How did that work out?

I don't think Beane will make the same mistake, but what do I know.

    How did that work out?

We got a WR (a position everyone here keeps pointing out doesn’t usually translate to immediate NFL success) who put up 2,000 yards and 15tds in his first two seasons with Kyle Orton, EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor throwing to him.

  11. Already wondering what the excuses will be for when Metcalf is dominating. I get the feeling the word hindsight will be used a lot.

“Elite WR don’t win Super Bowls anyway”

”he wouldn’t have done well in OUR offense”

”the Impact of the DT we drafted doesn’t show up on the stat sheet”

The only legit reason not to draft him is if the injury is lingering and serious, but I’ll leave that to the doctors.

A legitimate #1 WR. Somebody that requires double coverage

Only correct answer. Was anyone afraid of the skill players on Buffalo, Baltimore or Dallas last season?

Nope, but we got the best them!

i want 2 #1 WRs. The lines can be filled in with mid-late round picks and free agents. Dangerous wide receivers are very hard to get.

Edit: elite pass rusher is a close second but Hughes is underrated

And the Bills end up in cap hell again for signing  big contracts that turn into dead money.

There would have been no risk of that is what I'm saying. They have more than enough space for the next two years. No one to re-sign in that time either.

Look it up, and look at AB's contract. It would have ended right when we need to start re-signing Tre White and a year before Allen/Edmunds contracts are up. 3rd year carries only 300k dead cap if cut, or 17mil if he's still good at that age.

Cap space isn't an issue.  And who knows what he was asking for from the Bills.

And if that's the way it happened, I'm glad.  I never wanted him here in the first place and I expect you'll see him pull this same stunt in 2 years.

It never got to that point he scoffed at the idea.

The Bills GM wanted him here and I’m glad. Almost got one of the top players at the biggest need position. Guess you’ll have to be mad a Beane now for trying.
