  1. 1. Trade for Julio Jones or Aj Green

    2. Sign Tyler Eifert to a one year deal to prove durability. If he proves to stay healthy, resign to longer contract

    3. Sign Matt Paradis

    4. Sign Daryl Williams at RT (Carolina guy so will probably get signed by Beane)

    5. Get a secondary receiver receiver on a small 2 year contract like Tyrell Williams or Randall Cobb

    6. Sign Jadeveon Clowney or DeMarcus Lawrence

    7. Resign Lorenzo, if not, Clay Matthews on small contract or Anthony Barr

    8. Sign Jason Verrett to be the #2 corner

    9. Attempt to resign Kyle to another year

Draft Top Olineman or Top pass rusher in draft round 1.

Draft Anthony Johnson, WR from UB in round 2

That is my dream offensive scenario.

    Carry on

I guess I have an in-built bias about acquiring aging veterans who appear to be on the downside of their career. If they do acquire Jones I won't jump of a bridge unless tied to a bungee (I probably wouldn't even do it even with a bungee). Certainly Lorenzo is an example that gives lie to my bias but I see that as the exception to the rule. I am due to return to the mud soon and just once I want some Buffalo team get to the promised land before I do so for me its all about winning the SB and not just getting into the playoffs. How we get there is always open for argument and mine are just an opinion. Not like its an engineering problem where the solutions are usually narrowed to one or two choices.

I actually don't think Julio is on the downside of his career. I think AJ Green might be but Julio hasn't really shown any signs of slowing down this year

How is being a "playoff contender" in 2019 all that different from all the other years in the last 20 that the Bills have been "playoff contenders"?   The Bills have had 8 or 9 win seasons in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015, and 2017 -- when they finally actually made the playoffs. They were even "in the playoff hunt" in a few of their 7-9 seasons before coming up short late in the season, so I'm a bit tired of the "making the Bills a playoff contender" hype.   Bills fans were fed this same bull manure under Wilson/Brandon regime, and it's simply continuing under Pegula/Beane.

I want to see a team that's good enough to win 10 games a season with regularity, and this team isn't that now, and isn't likely to be one in the foreseeable future.   The team is so talent deprived, especially on offense, that there's not enough talent in the 2019 draft and FA market to fill even most of the holes -- and that presumes that Pegula and Beane are actually interested in building a real winning team rather than continuing to play "money ball", something I'll believe when I actually see it.  Until the owner commits to building a winning team, there's no real chance of building one.

"A consistent REAL contender". We may have had a lot of 7 or 8 win seasons and only 3 seasons of 9 wins in the last 18 years. Nothing we really did in the last 20 years has made us contenders. These are a couple of moves that can give us more than 9 wins and give us a real, true playoff run

Well  I thought I said it was better by 50% so that's not saying they won't make the playoffs. So lets turn the Q around-are you saying that the addition of Jones and Eifert makes them a 100% lock to make the playoffs (assume no major injuries if that will help your case-just not sure how you could possibly prognosticate that). My major point is I would rather them structure things for a Superbowl run in 2020/2021 then just to make the playoffs next year.

Not 100% a lock but gives a real chance with the defense we have. And acquiring Julio and Eifert would set us up for a Super Bowl run in 2020/2021 possibly even 2019 if we are able to get into the playoffs. I don't understand how you think acquiring Julio and Eifert and two more solid drafts in 2019 and 2020 wouldn't put us on the path to a Super Bowl run in 2020 or 2021? We wouldn't be bringing Julio on board just to get to the playoffs next season, It's to start the step of a being a consistent contender

Didn't he struggle terribly in his first season in NE?  Not saying he isn't playing great now but i think he sucked at first.

I remember that opening game that the Pats had against the Chiefs last year. Tyreek Hill torched the crap out of Gilmore on a long TD catch and as far as I remember the first month of the season last year he wasn't really good. He might be now though

would rather the Bills pursue SD's WR than pick up an older vet..they aren't going to the Superbowl next year and even the playoffs are iffy (probably better than 50% but not a lock by any means)...get younger and in 2020 or 2021 add some vets to put you over the top.

Their first priority has to be to fix that OL and get a real TE; through the draft although Eifert is an intriguing idea.

How do you know we aren't making the playoffs next season? That's what picking up Julio and signing Eifert is for. With our defense and another solid draft, there is no reason to think otherwise next season

This article explains what Beane can do with $90 million in cap space and the steps he can take in the 2019 offseason through free agency, trades and the draft. I agree with this article but there are two changes I would make:

The article talks about trading for AJ Green by giving up a 3rd and 4th round pick which I wouldn't mind but personally I would go hard after Julio. The Falcons are 4-8 so Julio being there isn't helping them any. He held out for a new contract in training camp this year and I think he possibly does the same next year. Considering the Falcons cap situation and the fact that their defense is extremely bad, I could see them wanting to acquire draft picks to build that defense up in a defensive heavy draft. Also, the Falcons drafted Calvin Ridley last year and could possibly be Julio's replacement for a far cheaper price to them. Although Julio is gonna be 30 starting next season. He is a year younger than Green and should still have a few years left of quality football

The other move I would make that is different from the article is:

The article talks about signing Jared Cook at tight end if we end up releasing Clay which I think we do. Jared Cook is going to be 32 at the beginning of next season but has been inconsistent also throughout his career. I would sign Tyler Eifert in free agency. Eifert is younger than cook but has had problems with injuries in his career. Because of his injury issues, I would sign Eifert to a simple one year deal and see if he can stay healthy throughout the season. If he is able to prove that he is durable and can make plays for this offense like he does for the Bengals when he actually plays then we can resign him to a longer contract. Eifert is also only 28 which is four years younger than Cook and could possibly be more of a longer term option if everything works out.

The article also talks about signing Matt Paradis at center from the Broncos which I also agree with and drafting Ed Oliver in the 1st round to replace Kyle Williams whether he retires after the season or not and drafting Anthony Johnson in the 2nd round no matter what we do at receiver.

It's a good read and gets you excited for the offseason and thinking about what next season could bring

  7. I was 6 years old and I distinctly remember my dad listening to the game on the radio. That was the year I really started to get into football. I remember being extremely excited for after the comeback win and that first Bills/Cowboys Super Bowl being my first memory of a Superbowl and us getting blasted 52-17 and being completely bummed when they lost and then my parents telling me it was time for bed because I had school the next day. I wanted no part of going to bed right after that lol

    1) They are at odds about his contract.

They feel like he signed for what he signed for and the fact that they got a bargain in retrospect shouldn't matter.

He feels grossly underpaid and briefly held out of TC.

He's having a great year so as a fan of a team that hasn't had a receiving season like that since Eric Moulds peak in 1998 it would seem like a no-brainer to re-do his deal but they've been dragging their feet hard.

These situations often prove difficult to reconcile.

    2) You'd think that Ryan and Julio were a match made in heaven by the yardage stats............but you could also say that Ryan doesn't need the biggest and best deep ball receiver in the game when his passing range is contracting.

It doesn't show in "air yards" because Ryan really thrives at making intermediate 20 yard type throws that are still technically "long".........but his ability to throw the ball deep is in steep decline.   It's a big reason for the decline in Julio's TD production.  Perhaps the Falcons would look at it and figure they can find a cheaper, younger guy that fits Ryan's game and not have to mess around with extending Julio and instead deal him for picks.

    3) The situation in Atlanta has grown stale............they lose a lot of games to inferior teams........even when you take into account their injuries on defense they shouldn't be losing a lot of these games.

Perhaps they decide to shake things up.

Sometimes you can't see it coming at this point of the season.    Nobody saw Gruden dismantling the Raiders.    When McD took over nobody thought they were going to tear down the team and get rid of all of the young core talent.........the reason for losing was considered to be almost entirely on coaching.

    In summation:

The money is better on him getting a re-structured deal with a big raise and staying in Atlanta...........but the above reasons aren't nothing and he's only got a $5M dead cap hit if traded.

The other thing is the Falcons are 4-8 with Julio so it's not like him being there is really helping them much. Their defense is insanely bad and they are probably going to want as many draft picks as they can get in a defense heavy draft to fix it. They are already paying Ryan a crap ton so I doubt they are going to want to pay Julio some outrageous some of money to stay there considering they drafted Calvin Ridley last year.

  9. I think releasing both of these guys means we're going big for WR in the offseason. We can't go with Zay at #1. He's a fantastic #2. I think we are gonna make a big trade at the position. If they are really sold on Allen they have to. Not to mention next year is year 3 for Beane and McDermott. They know next year is the year to really get this team to start contending

  10. I don't understand the people that are against this. Is Julio 30 years old? Yes. Is it going to take a lot to get him? More than likely. Is he going to cost a lot against the cap? Yes. I don't care. Go get Julio.

I don't think I would give up a first rounder for him. But a 2nd rounder for a receiver that could have 4 to 5 great years left that can put us over the top offensively, I'm doing it. We also have $90 million in cap space. Julio might take up at the high end about $20 million of it. That still leaves $70 million to make other signings and draft other players. I'm all over a move for Julio

you want to spend two thirds of our cap space on Julio Jones??

    kFxqZBq.gif

Two thirds of $90 million? Exaggerating much?

We need guys that can score points. I understand the line is a huge need but players that put points on the board are more important. Julio does that. I don't know if they would have up a 1 and 4 for a 30 year old receiver. I would off the Falcons a 2 and a 5 though and see if they bite. I would love be some Julio Jones. Then draft Noah Fant. Got our tight end of the future our receiver we so desperatley need and year 2 of Allen. That would be awesome

Not at 8. No TE is worth that.  Tampa drafted OJ Howard at 19 and are still looking for a payday after 2 years. He is coming on, but not a game-changer. Ebron went  10th and it's taken him 4 years and 2 teams to make any impact. Ertz and Gronk were drafted in the 2nd round.  Kelce and Cook went in the 3rd. We need a stud, game changing WR if we draft in the top 10.  OL, TE, RB stars have been found in rounds 2-5 and beyond.

OJ Howard is certainly becoming one of the better TEs in this league. He's a physical freak. I had him in fantasy this year so I'm aware of his production. I think the only thing keeping him from turning into an all pro tight end at this point is he is in a crowded offense. There are a ton of mouths to feed between Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Chris Godwin, Adam Humphries and Cameron Brate. In an offense with a couple less mouths to feed and no turnover prone QBs like Winston and Fitzpatrick, I certainly believe he can and would be a game changing tight end

  13. For me it has always been the Giants. There's something about when I hear that team is in a primetime game I cringe. Unless I have a fantasy player from that team. I have no interest in watching them.

I also didn't care for the Jaguars and still kind of don't. They are probably the one team in the league up until last year that even their own fans didn't care about considering half their stadium was wrapped up in tarp.

The Rams after the days of the "Greatest Show On Turf" and before Sean McVay had very many forgettable years but are now one of the most exciting teams to watch

The Titans are another team that I don't really care for. It boggles my mind how that team gets two or three primetime games a year. The NFL talks about how they give Sunday and Monday night games to teams that are "Marketable" but yet the Titans who I don't think I've ever seen one fan of in the state of New York or any other place I've traveled somehow gets three primetime games a year even in years when they were just as mediocre as the Bills have been. At least we know the Bills have fans all over the country and travel all over the place. How many people outside of Nashville really really care about the Titans?

He got ran all over in the first half of this weekend's game and his lane discipline has been poor in most games. He makes wow plays that only a player with his special athleticism can make but his down in and down out fundamentals need work. I am cautiously optimistic because he was the same his fist year playing at Virginia Tech and he made a big jump his second year. But he has been one of the weaker performers overall on our starting defense when you really evaluate the tape.

I agree he will be fine.... but I don't believe in sugar coating. He has been up and down thus far.

He has had some down moments but I think his positives greatly outweigh his negatives. And I think he's been more solid than not. To be fair, the entire defense got ran over on Sunday. Based off the good things he has shown there is no doubt he is going to be a Kuechly type linebacker

Tre is a stud. Milano is a stud. Taron looks great to me.

Dawkins is a solid player. Harrison Phillips looks like he fits that too.

Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds have had up and down rookie years but I am cautiously optimistic.

Zay has improved but hasn't lived up to his draft slot - yet.

Wyatt it is just to early to say.

They have drafted reasonably well. I am not disputing. But when people say things like "who was a bad pick?" They have to be prepared for the predictable disaster that was Nathan Peterman to be quoted back at them.

Zay is definitely improving and I wouldn't really say that Edmunds has been up and down. He's been mostly solid except the first week or two. I can understand being cautiously optimistic on Allen but you don't have to be on Edmunds. He's gonna be just fine
