I'm pretty sure he would have to wow them for them to hand over the team to him this early in his NFL development. Having the physical tools and demeanor to work on his game and get better is what led them to draft him where they did, showing the ability to lead an offense against top tier NFL defenders is what they'll need to see to give him the nod over guys who have already experienced it this early on his career. Of course its a competition, they'll give Allen every opportunity to win the starting gig, but if things play out as they typically do with rookie QB's with that learning curve, they'll continue to bringing him along patiently until they feel he's all caught up.

Lol. Where did I quote myself? Daboll and McDermott seem to have had a plan for bringing Allen along when they drafted himand it doesn't seem as though they will deviate from it simply due to where Allen was selected. That may be what some fans want, but this new regime isn't easily moved, are disciplined, and will remain steadfast in their approach unless something truly amazing takes place. I haven't gone as far as to say they are eliminating Josh Allen from the competition but he will have to wow them by doing more than ripping passes to have them reverse course and ditch their plan to bring him along slowly in order to give him the time necessary to work on the fundamentals necessary to play QB in the NFL.

Improving arm strength is one of those things that I think of as optional for NFL QB's and some don't even think it's attainable, you're either born with it or you're born without it being the thinking. It's awesome that Peterman cited it as something to improve on, because it shows that he's mapped out his flaws, with that said, outside of Peterman, it's more the fans who would suggest that he needs to improve his arm strength to make a significant jump as a QB whether true or not. I doubt we'd get any reports on a stronger armed Peterman even if he made good on his efforts.

from NewyorkUpstate.com On Thursday's OTA's: Peterman on fire "Nathan Peterman took the bulk of the reps with the first-team offense on Thursday and thrived in doing so. He completed 17 of his 21 passes during team drills and looked particularly impressive during the two-minute drill portion of practice. Three of his completions went to Brandon Reilly on Thursday and another three went to Jeremy Kerley. Peterman seemed to be much more decisive with the football than we've seen him in the past".

5 Way-too-Early picks from CBS

When an outsider tries to speak as a diehard: "The defense has lots of holes...". -
There is nothing asinine about this thread. You feeling Josh Allen should start ASAP doesn't cancel out any idea that contradicts that or make it asinine. There will be hysteria in here if Peterman jumps ahead in the pecking order because there seems to be very little appreciation for slow and steady progress. There's a want for missiles being thrown all over the field. There's always the want for immediate gratification, always the want for what's considered "sexy". FTR, I'm in support of Josh Allen, I just don't think he'll be starter week one barring something calamitous.

I think that our defense stands a good chance vs Ravens
BurpleBull replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Flacco looks like the Flacco of last year then stopping their passing game shouldn't be a difficult task at all. Don't know if Flacco was the problem or the OC, but that passing game was garbazh. -
According to this guy: Josh Allen (Third team) 12 of 18 "...mixed results". 1st two-min. drill; threw INT to Breon Borders. 2nd two-min. drill; led team for TD (scoring TD going to Robert Foster). _______________________________ AJ McCarron --- (First team) 15 of 19 "...nice first down throws". No TDs. Led drive that ended with a would-be FG attempt. _______________________________ Nathan Peterman (Second team) 13 of 15 "...pretty good day". Threw a TD early on to Brandon Reilly during redzone drills. Led Bills into redzone, ending on what would have been a FG attempt. The media reporting, day of the OTAs has been so unbalanced; seems like there's been an effort to trivialize the positive contributions of the less heralded QB's. Good for Peterman.

"Giants 'don't like' Josh Rosen".
BurpleBull replied to BurpleBull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope...I learned yesterday that disregarding context is very much encouraged in here. That is my offering. It really is too bad that the Ravens messed around and traded up for Flacco's replacement, because then you would've been right. -

I just made your bold statement bolder. The Ravens expended draft picks trading up to grab Lamar Jackson. -
What on earth are you talking about??? Since the "agenda" has been made crystal clear, please explain to me what that agenda is, because I don't know what you are talking about. I never predicted that the Bills would draft Peterman, I suggested that the Bills should draft him and they ended up doing it. The McDermott hire was more so a prediction, because I narrowed the hires down to two choices, one being McDermott and then it happened. Agenda?

Trent Edwards' rap alter ego.

I don't think that's the case at all. I was checking to see how he would respond after that. I thought he played pretty well against the Patriots. Division rivals, I believe on the road, a rookie showcasing himself against a "Tom Terrific" led ball club and he played within himself. Didn't dazzle but also didn't show signs of a player overwhelmed by the stage or show signs of a player consumed by thoughts of the LAC game. Overlooked by others I'm sure, but that says something to me. He stated that he had put the horrific game behind him and learned from it and it proved to be true words and not just lipservice. His last regular game he threw for a TD. No Ints that game or in the one prior. I detected no lingering effects of the Chargers game.

I don't know if you've taken "make things happen" out of its original context. Trying to make things happen, as in he was doing his best to get the offense going (ex., entering the game and picking up the first down on 4th down to extend the drive). He pressed the issue, and paid for it in instances during those games. We already have a QB in that franchise mold, in Josh Allen, so I can't be desperate for one. We were watching the same game I promise you, but of course you'd see a rookie going 5-10 and a completing a nice back shoulder throw for a TD as not very impressive if that rookie is named Nathan Peterman. You were right about Tuel, Brohm, and Brown. I was right about the hire of Sean McDermott during the coaching search. I also spoke about drafting Peterman and it happened. I think Peterman has a shot at starting week one. We'll see how it plays out.

Peterman's first rookie start could fairly be described as "historically bad" but not his entire rookie season. Peterman's ability to move the offense vs. the Saints is what got people really wondering about what the Bills had in him. He produced slightly better than Tyrod Taylor vs. The Bradys and he put points on the board versus the Colts. Peterman was pressing to make things happen. It happened in the LAC game, it happened in the snow game, it happened in the playoffs. Playing better situational football is something that I think he can and will learn to do.

If by "sticking with" Peterman, you mean affording him the opportunity to participate in an open QB competition during the off-season despite an up and down rookie campaign, then yes, the coaches would be sticking with him and doing their due diligence in the process. If that's not what you meant, then you're likely just very disingenuously, using Peterman's past---his rookie season---where he threw 52 total passes in mostly spot duty, as evidence of where he stands presently and are placing a definitive cap on his potential based on that past, for the sake of rendering the idea of promoting Peterman in the future an illogical one. If Peterman wins the starting job, it'll no doubt be due to him showing growth from his rookie season and nothing less.
-
Spoken like a guy who could care less about the coaches doing their due diligence to find the guy best suited for the starting job. You know good and well that if Peterman were drafted 7th overall you wouldn't consider one start against a sack-happy defensive unit, three passes against a very tough Jags defense while filling-in during a late game situation, for your injured starting QB, who could only lead the offense to three points all game, and 52 pass attempts overall as reason enough to write off a rookie QB. Peterman posted a QB rating of 100 twice, while throwing for a score in those games. Tyrod Taylor bombed in the Patriots game, but it can be said that Peterman was the more productive QB in that game, even if his numbers weren't significantly better. Peterman was a rookie...Taylor was not. Peterman's "several chances" came during limited action as a rookie playing under a dreadful offensive coordinator and you know it. It's absurd of you to suggest that any QB on the Bills roster, should be denied the opportunity of displaying improvement from one season to the next and denied the opportunity to compete for a starting job...especially one who was a rookie just a season ago.

The way I see it, it's McCarron and Peterman's spot to lose. Sort of like the champion in a prize fight, don't get outclassed or dominated by your more fan-pleasing, haymaker-throwing, game opponent and you've got a good chance of going home with the title even if not in spectacular fashion. I think Peterman will prove to be further along in his development than people believe right now.
