I know AJ is catching a tough break from those around him tonight, but he doesn’t look very nimble or decisive out there.
-
Ok, we’ve established Shady can still play. Now take him out.

At least the defense decided to man up after that ridiculous opening drive.

There he is.... that Tyrod we know and love.

OK, let's just focus on the first part - I said "more talented." Do you deny that?
Yes.
Ill also need more than 10 minutes of a preseason game to make declarative statements.

AJ can’t catch a break. The night he starts, KB bungles a 30 yard pass, the defense gives up an opening TD and then we get pinned inside the 5.

OK, I'll say it: the Browns have now leapfrogged over us. More talent on that team, and (yeah, preseason) appears to be, shockingly, better coached too.
All this from half of a quarter of a preseason game.
Change your username. You don’t deserve it.

Cleveland’s out here like it’s the Playoffs and our team is playing two hand touch.
-
I guess we know what the defense will be working on all week.
-
KB looked like he had alligator arms there

Is Reilly dressed and practicing pregame or is that another white WR named Reilly that just ran across the screen?
-
These analysts and their weird obsession with Tyrod Taylor.
I really don’t want to root against him but they are making it so hard.
-
I hope Allen starts.
I think AJ starts. ...and I’m ok with that.
I believe McDermott and staff know how tough our first half schedule is and see the first two games as winnable with a game manager who doesn’t turn it over, can be depended on to run the new offense and allow our defense to do its thing.

Based on the camp reps and where they're all taking them, the WR ranking looks something like this to me (today's practice performance notwithstanding):
1. Kelvin Benjamin
2. Andre Holmes
3. Jeremy Kerley
4. Zay Jones
5. Rod Streater
6. Brandon Reilly
7. Kaelin Clay
8. Raymond McCloud
9. Corey Coleman
10. Cam Phillips
11. Malachi Dupree
12. Robert Foster
13. Austin Proehl
Are they willing to keep seven? Or will they cut the list down to as few as four?
KB
Zay
Kerley
Coleman
Holmes
The rest are competing for 1 or 2 spots. (IMO)

Does this mean Josh Allen is going to have Zay and Coleman running with him?

In God's name what has you thinking optimistically about Zay?
To start, the fact that he balled out in college and reporters are saying he looks really good in practice.
-
It looks like Daboll like his TE's. He has 1 or 2 lined up on most possessions. I think O'Leary makes it, at least as a #3, but Logan Thomas has a lot of upside if he can begin to grasp the position.
I would surprised to see him cut, but wouldn't be surprised to see him passed on the depth chart. Two TE sets with Clay and Thomas has a lot of potential in a modern offense.

Somewhat similar to Allen’s circumstances in PG1. Allen gets the edge for having a TD and pushing the ball down the field.
-Had one terrible throw, as did Allen. Difference being Allen’s was on a 4th down.
-Like Allen, he faced serious pressure on some throws.
-Like Allen, he didn’t have wide open WRs running around the middle of the field.
I like what ive seen from all 4 top QBs so far.

Teller and Boettger look like future starters but not this year unless injuries or the starters fall apart.
OL is an area of need to address early in the next draft.
We actually have some decent young prospects on the OL.
If Teller can compete, and eventually take Ducasse’s spot on the line, we’d have:
LT - Dawkins
LG - Teller
C - Groy
RG - Miller
RT - This is where I’d use a high pick or spend some FA $$$

I'm having the same conversation and what I'm saying is players who will be released or otherwise made available after preseason aren't likely to make that much of a contribution.
Not likely, but it happens, and may happen for us again. You don’t need to look very far to find a late addition who made an impact.....
We signed Deonta Thompson last October.

That's why Coleman is here.
Fringe guys who might get cut can't be expected to make much of a contribution. What I'm posting isn't even controversial.
It’s not controversial. You just seem to be having a different conversation than everyone else.
Coleman would be what this thread is referencing - “fairly proven deep threat”. He’s proven he can take the top off, albeit inconsistent with injury issues. Cleveland’s new FO didn’t draft him, wanted their own guys and saved some money. We got him for a 7th. Guys like this come free in cuts/trades for whatever reasons.. cap hits, scheme, personality etc.. Others like him may become available and, if so, we should go after one.
You act as though this thread says “#1 WR” or “#2 WR” or “Proven Deep Threat”. Those guys probably aren’t becoming available.

That doesn't mean much. There are simply not enough quality WRs in today's NFL game. It's the same with OL. BTW it's corps not core.
We’re not trying to sign a Julio Jones here.... We just need another guy like Coleman to be on the outs. You know, the guy we got for a 7th round pick last week.

Highly doubtful with not enough good players at either position in the entire league.
I think there could be actually. Guys like Dorsett, Perriman, Seth Roberts etc have all been rumored cuts at some point over the summer.
Coleman was going to be a possible cut if we didn’t trade for him.
Jets seemed to have 10 skilled tight ends in PG1. If we cut Thomas or Croom, I’m sure other teams wouldn’t mind bringing one of them in.
We’re not looking for a stud. We just need a speed guy to compete/pair with Coleman. We were able to find a Deonta Thompson off the trash heap last year.

great post, I agree 100% with you.
The issue is that our 3 QBs are very different and need different types of WRs and TE's to be successful.
Peterman is a quick strike guy. He needs a guy open in tight spaces. KB and Kerley do that well. Z Jones is supposed to be that guy. Clay is good, but Croom and Lee have done well here too. Reilly fits here.
AJM is a middle of the road guy. Needs a balanced approach. KB, Clay, Kerley, Reilly are good fits as possession WR. Maybe he can get Coleman open deep. At TE Clay is solid here, as is O'Leary and Thomas who blocked like a mad man last game.
Allen needs a burner. A Goodwin type burner. Coleman, Streater, Dupre, Foster all become more important. Clay is still TE1, but Croom and maybe Lee fit in more here. Pass attack first with Allen.
The cuts will be interesting this year at WR and TE. Croom and Lee made big catches, and Thomas was a blocking machine. Ray Ray looked amazing. Dupre and Proehl looked bad in PG1.
I don't think the cupboard is bare, I think WR and TE need to be paired down to the type of offense Daboll wants to run with a known QB.
Agreed.
KB, Coleman, Kerley, Zay and Holmes all seem like locks.
I’d love to see another pickup of a speed guy. Grab the fastest WR off cuts or seek another small trade, if possible, to add to that group. That gives us a nice blend of size, speed and possession guys.

Every single fan knows Teller/Groy are better than Vlad/Bodine.
Literally no clue why the staff thinks this should even be a battle.
