  1. Allen got a gorilla off his back.  Diggs was positioned to receive his lowest target share and count in his for years in Buffalo.  The film and analytics point to a declining player.  His contract paired with his attitude made the move the obvious one.  Consider similar aged wrs could gain more than a 4th a likely top 40 or 50 pick made too much sense.

I believe (maybe hope is a better word) that this is a classic case of taking one step back to more easily take two steps forward.  If ever there was a WR draft that made this decision easier this year is it.

Yes on paper they are not as good.  Without any of the drama, he no longer threatens a defense deep.  He is paid as a top 5 wr.  That he is no longer.  His targets were going to go down this year.  Now how would Diggs respond to a drop in his targets for the betterment of the team?  Its alot of small things that adds up to doing it now.  Bring in some younger guys and a rookie or 2 and I think the offense can be as good or better than last year.

  3. Imo it was 50/50 money and wanting to be elsewhere on Diggs end.  This was the last year of guaranteed money but also locked in for 4 more years.  He forced a trade and was not welcomed with a bunch of new money when he arrived in Hou.  They took off the years so Diggs wouldnt be a problem.  Basically, to get the money you are asking for you have a year to show out and get it here or elsewhere.

Take the off the field stuff out of it.  He is top 5 in the league in targets and pay.  The offense was more efficient and better overall when not feeding Diggs targets.  Going forward the offense would be funneled through Kincaid, Shakir and Cook due to their catch % and Allens rating when targeting them.  So now if Diggs is not getting 160 targets but closer to 100 his production will go down.  He will still be good but not elite.  Sprinkle that in with everything else off field I think trading is the best option.  Dead cap is for money already paid to him.  Is he worth another 25 mil this year of new money they will pay him? I think the conclusion was no.  Would Diggs make thing tougher for everyone around him if he was not the main read on most plays?  After the win streak to win the division and make the playoffs, after the season he was still questioning the change of philosophy mid way through the year pointed to I was a pacing career but I dont know what changed and why.

Maybe we knew the Texans would clown themselves by giving us a potential Top 40 pick next year while simultaneously ripping up the best part of the contract they inherited.

I think that was a remedy to Diggs wanting more money.  The deal looks better today imo .

Does Daboll see any value in Knox? I don’t think the Giants have a reliable TE (Waller hasn’t seemed to make an impact there).

If he did, adding him to the trade could make it a more appealing trade, pick-cost wise.

But that would help us too much lol

Im not sending Knox after losing Diggs and Davis.  TE is a position of strength I would not weaken it.

    You mean like:

    Goff, Mahomes, Rodgers, and Lamar?

I mean…wow…not sure how else to respond to that.  Mahomes and Rodgers already first ballot HOFers, Lamar is 2 time and reigning MVP, and Goff made a SB and multiple NFCCG appearances.

How many league MVPs does Sammy Watkins need to play with to reach his potential?  We know the answer isn’t 1, 2, or 3 because he played with 3 league MVPs, 2 of which are first ballot HOFers right now.

Diggs trade was never an absolute, there was plenty of buzz about that possibility.  There is no chance Beane pays QB level draft trade compensation in the best WR draft maybe ever.  Never gonna happen, and if it does, Beane should immediately be on the hot seat and fired if it doesn’t work…and I absolutely love Beane, but I would fire him if that WR didn’t prove to be the best WR in the NFL, cuz even then it probably isn’t worth it still.

Slight move up, stay put, maybe wr trade.

    Another one of my favorites.

Outside of the big four, Franklin and Worthy are my favorites from this class. Nice pick.

Mine aswell.  That offense needs alot.  Both thier lines need alot.  They should trade out having another pick in the 30’s.  If on the clock I dont see Tepper passing on Worthy for alot of non football reasons. Ie buzz and ticket sales.

  8. With the 33rd pick the Carolina Panthers select Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas @TPS is now on the clock.

Carolina needs weapons around Bryce Young.  Tepper will see his combine speed and production at Texas and want him.  Should they concentrate efforts to protect their toddler sized qb yes.  Will they probably not.

I don't think the Bills would have to pay him big money right away.  It's part of what makes Aiyuk attractive, his first year here would be a reasonable salary.  The Bills could structure it for a multi-year contract with guaranteed money for later years.  The real benefit is the reduction of risk in the 2024 season.

I think the FO would really have to figure out Aiyuk's fit here though - culture/diva wise.  It's not a good look forcing his way out of SF and we just went through it.

Getting Rookies and penciling them in as pretty much WR1-ish is riskier than we have seen out of Beane in the past.  But if the Bills can do it and go with rookies it really transitions this team to a Josh lead juggernaut.  Getting the likes of McConkey/K Coleman/T Franklin/Legette would solidify Josh as the leader of this team and get the team with an offense that has a core that will be together for multiple years (Kincaid/Cook/Shakir/rookie WR).

His contract is why he is available.  That would be part of the deal and possibly how they lower compensation.  His yard per catch and target are very high.  Would be a #1 on this offense and has big play ability.

I'm sure he would like at least one more high quality WR, but I also expect he is somewhat relieved and looking forward rather than backward.

It offers him the opportunity to demonstrate that his success was and is not dependent on Diggs.

The question on the qb pod asked by Jordan Palmer and Kyle Allen about this wr class is telling.  He is looking at wr hard.  He wanted Kincaid last year too.  Allen will pick the guy he wants imo.

I think he's not a "drama guy", so yes, relief that Diggs is out BUT he must feel some anxiety about the WR room right now.

Allen should be IN the draft war room rooting for offensive weapons.....

Anxiety is going on a 90 yard drive, going 7-8 ending in a qb sneak for a 6.  And your #1 wr telling you he was open and you missed him.  Not saying that exact thing happened but stories trickling out points to this being closer to reality than fantasy.

Last year even some of his big games were horribly inefficient imo.  When you’re getting 16 targets against the giants, you’d expect more than 100 receiving yards and 0 tds I’d think.

that stretch of Jax-Tampa where stuff went really sideways for the offense was too many Diggs targets with too little return imo.  A lot of his damage against Jax was with the game pretty much over already

I really don’t understand why they did this for this reason lol like they got a good deal for diggs but there’s a nonzero chance it blows up on them

In NFL trade terms a middle to high second pick for a 30 plus wr is above market.

  13. 2 twos? 60 and the the Vikings 2nd.  Ayuik last year had more yards and Tds than diggs on over 50 less targets.  I would be all in on Ayuik.  Instantly, steps in as a number one.  Opens the first rd back up.  I think if he is in play Beane will wait and see until draft night.

  14. Trade all the way up.  Go up after a sliding Thomas or Udunze.  Wait and take Leggette.  Those are the choices imo.  Needing an early contributor imo changes the equation for me on who to take.  Need someone capable of a good amount of snaps and able to play outside consistently.

  15. Diggs will be productive in Hou.  Curious how his target share will look.  Averaging 160 targets over 4 years is an incredible amount.  Even the games he did not produce he had his targets.   Imo Allen will benefit from being the guy on offense.  Every skill player in the draft will be over the moon to play with Allen.   Hit the open guy, win and move on.  Everything else is just noise.

Mitchell and another WR in Rd 2, ideally Polk.

I think Legette struggled adjusting to college and may have same issue adjusting to pro game.  That said, either one of these guys I would want to pare with another WR in this loaded class (ideally the always productive Polk)

My understanding he also changed positions.  Was an athlete recruit.  Played Qb in high school.  Imo if you are looking for a little size to play outside I assume Thomas Jr is gone.  Mitchell and Coleman though younger have not had a season like Leggette and I feel they will have a rougher transition.  I like the potential of some other wrs more and have been vocal against Leggette.  Rather bet more on potential.  With Diggs gone they need a guy to play out of the gate. At 28 thats Leggette for me.  I like the idea of Leggette than double dipping later. Prospects like Washington or Crowing.

We'd have to give up 5 years worth of 1st and 2nd round picks to get JJ

He wants 30 mil.  I think 2 1st starts the conversation.  Do the Vikings pay that to a wr without a qb.  Does Jefferson sign an extension with them.
