I'm intrigued by the possibility of taking WRs with our first 2 picks (however we get there) depending who still is on the board in the second and how much it might cost to move up. Don't see it as a real possibility though given other needs.

I take the opposite body type the top of day 3.  If you go smaller early I would look at Baker, Thrash, Rice if they still available.  You went bigger body early I would look for Malik Washington, Crowing, Tahj Washington.  I think early than later is more likley.  Or back to back if they waited on Wr.

They needed a top NFL wideout who could hit the ground running. And their strategy did pay dividends. Word has it, and I believe it, that they were all in on Addison last year and would have selected him with their first pick. If so, their evaluation of a first round talent was spot on.

The guys drafted before Jefferson that busted is also a consideration.  I would expect Beane was shocked Jefferson was still there.  Either way Beane took a sure thing that has been top 5 across the board since arriving.

  2. I think if Oduzne or Thomas make it to 19 to 20 range Beane will try to move up.  After the top 4 you would have to look at what Beane drafts in round 1.  Young guys with elite traits. That would include both Texas wrs Worthy and Mitchell.  Troy Franklin from Oregon and Keon Coleman.  They have been talking about explosiveness, I think that disqualifies Coleman.  His 40 limits him to day 2.  That leaves realistically Worthy, Mitchell or Franklin.  I would be happy with any of them.  If your fans of guys not mentioned than Buffalo may go a different position round 1 and get aggressive day 2 or trade back.

Josh, IMO, still needs a WR who's open when he's not open. A Dhop type receiver.

Or just get a guy who gets open.  D Hop uses incredible hand size and body control.  He is not fast or imposing.  He is one of many examples on why waiting for Wr is better than over drafting one.

    No Thomas Jr.?

I feel like Allen was at his best with Diggs, Brown, and/or Sanders as “boundary” WRs. Do you see them similarly to the 4 prospects you listed? Or closer to Gabe?

    Fair enough.

Obviously Tyreek is one of one, but what about Worthy makes you think he might struggle at the next level?

On the McConkey/Diggs comparison, how do you factor in that the latter was a 5th round pick?

Sanders and Brown would be deemed too small to play outside by some here.  Players skill determines where they will be able to play.  Having interchangeable pieces makes them harder to defend.  I think adding a player who can run past defenders that expands the coverage vertically has been lacking for some time.  Dont need to be 200 plus or over 6-1.

I agree on Michell as well with you just think someone is going to take a chance on his traits and feel they can refine his game earlier than what showed on his tape

Your right.  Given the choice I go Worthy over Mitchell.  Though size may push Mitchell above him.

I doubt that any receiver seriously projected as a potential pick at 28 would still be on the board at 60. OTOH outside of the top three, Mitchell and Thomas, given the depth of the class, I would trade back if all are gone when we pick.

Some are talking about Leggette and Franklin and many other names could still be available at 60.  At 28 Mitchell is a question mark.  Expecting guys to produce more in the NFL than in college at a skill position can be a fools errand.  He has the tools but was never the guy at either school.  Im on the fence with Mitchell.  Mitchell and Robinson are similar prospects in my opionon.  DE as a position has a higher track record of those style guys succeeding than wr does. I think given the choice Buffalo goes Robinson over Mitchell.

The idea of McConkey is growing on me.

Guy is a straight baller. Quick, smooth, reliable.

Feel like if we go into #28 looking for WR1 we are going to be disappointed. Take the best player regardless of if we feel he can play outside, etc.

Not interested in ppl saying “we have Shakir” as if these guys are not versatile. The NfL is changing.

I am not sold we need an alpha at WR just a play maker.

    Diggs

    McConkey

    Samuel

    Shakir

Im ok with Ladd but would prefer a trade back to pick up a 3rd. At 28 I would go Worthy over Ladd.  Worthy was more productive every year of his career.

I guess it partly depends on what the plan is exactly. If all the Bills are looking for is to complete their weaponry with a vertical threat they can probably find a raw speedster with some demonstrated receiving ability in later rounds. The class is deep.
If instead they are looking for a player to develop into a #1 to take over from Diggs they would be best taking him at 28 or indeed possibly even sooner should the suitable opportunity arise.

Adding Samuel allows them to pivot if that guy isnt available at 28 in their eyes.  At 28 the guy should have the potential to take over for Diggs.  Outside of the top 4 the rest is beauty in the eyes of the beholder.  The Wr prospect everyone will pound the table for at 28 may be there at 60.

Curious whether you think Worthy and McConkey can or cannot be effective from the outside

Imo Worthys speed will create cushion.  Some teams dont press and some that do may not want to press him.  Ladd has the footwork to get off press.  Ladds production and injury history is what will keep him out of rd 1 imo.  Both will be able to line up anywhere.  Ladd more a technician and Worthy with explosiveness.  You dont need to be 6-2 over 200 pds to play outside.

I love Harmon’s work and Samuel has obviously played with pretty iffy QBs for most of his career, but the production simply hasn’t been there against man coverage. Like I said, I think he has the skills to potentially be a good WR against man but he’s going on Year 7 or whatever and people are still hoping for him to really break out. I don’t want it to come across like I think he sucks or anything; I like Samuel and am excited to have him on the team. I just don’t think it would be wise to assume we’re all set with he and Diggs as the man beaters. Would much rather add one more weapon that projects to be that type of player.

Even if you want to assume Samuel will be a beast against man, we still have more of a need for that skillset than beating zone IMO.

In man situations he is an upgrade over Davis.  90% of the offensive production is short to intermediate. Having guys that excel in that area will make for a more efficient passing attack.  Without Davis the offense needs a deep threat.  Samuel fills a hole.  At 28 Wr isnt as obvious.  I think Beane adds a wr with deep ball ability with one of their top 3 picks.  May not be 28.  The wr class is deep enough where Beane can find that player rd 2 or 3 if they really like some better rd 1 or 2.

I would agree with you if we didn't already have an impressive arsenal of weapons for Josh between Diggs, Shakir, Kincaid, Samuel, and even Cook to throw to.  Like if Diggs had actually been traded (which he isn't going to be) and we needed badly to replace Josh's top weapon.

And lets realistically look at who will be there at 28:  McConkey, Coleman, Franklin, Legette, Pearsall...possibly Mitchell and/or Worthy.  Those are widely seen as the next best 7 WRs on the board in no particular order after the big 4.  That group is all closely graded together...and the order in which they are ranked varies widely based on who you talk to.  So for a visual example...just gonna make up a numbers ranking system of 0.0 to 10.0 that Beane puts as a grade.

What if a player at another position of need (say a DE) has 9.2 grade at 28 and the next best guy at that same position has a 7.9 grade.  Now the best WR left on the board has an 8.7 and of the 7 WR's listed above they are all tightly graded from 8.5 to 8.7 amongst themselves.

Wouldn't you agree that it would be absolutely best to take the 9.2 player and then grab say even the 8.5 WR over reaching for say the 8.7 WR and being stuck with the 7.9 guy at the other position for our first 2 rounds?

Not only is reaching a bad draft strategy...but you exponentially compound that mistake when you reach in a draft that is rich at that position with guys will similar grades and potential that can be had a round or 2 later.

That is my only point.  Don't pass up someone you have a much better grade on at another position of need to take a lesser WR, especially in a draft where you can get similar graded WR's a round or 2 later.

Again, I do want a WR early...I am not advocating against that, only advocating against reaching

I think its Wr or a DE they like falls to them.  Imo you have Verse, Latu, Turner, and Chop Robinson.  Those are the only guys with elite traits.  The other DEs are day 2 prospects. One of them is available and say the top 4 wrs are gone they take the higher or similar rated DE.  Those guys are gone they go Wr or possibly move back.  Beane will go elite traits and young rd 1 or move back.

  11. I see Davis as the offensive loss equivalent to the departure of Edmunds on defense.  Davis was a starter the last 2 seasons had very good games but also was what he was and played a certain way.  A way the defense knew how to stop or contain.  Samuel offers diversity in attack.  Has the speed to run past coverage while also experience running routes and receiving handoffs out of the backfield.  Samuel makes the offense harder to defend and excels at beating man.  Buffalo has struggled to beat man if Diggs is taken away.

NFL also stated this only averages around 1 per game and all 3 elements need to be met to be considered a penalty.  It sounds like it may be more fines than penalties

The play that injured Andrews. Levy a fine and move along.

  13. Worthy at 28 if available.  More productive more versatile player than his teammate Mitchell.  His speed allows him to play outside.  Jon Brown with more juice.  Draft your Gabe Davis body double day 3 where Davis was drafted.

  14. As of right now the loss of Floyd, Poyer, Hyde, and Morse has made those areas weaker. Everywhere else is normal off season attrition.  After the draft I can see where getting younger at multiple spots will result in a net positive.

  15. I would trade down some to pick up a 3rd.  Kinda in a position to take the best remaining player at dline oline or wr.  All the players considering at 28 one will be there 10 picks later. I think they could get aggressive late 2nd and 3rd to target guys they want.
