Unless they have inside info that he's cooked, trading him inside the AFC to an ascending playoff team with a bidding star QB for essentially a late third round pick when considering the picks we gave back was assinine

Look at the last 8 weeks.  The team and offense went on a run when they made him less a focal point of the offense.  He will benefit the AFC and playing in a dome.  He will produce but at 31 and a big cap number its time to pull the plug if he is not committed.

I don’t hate the trade, and I think Beane did a brilliant job turning us into contenders. Now I’m starting to see Beane and McD display some of the traits that ended Beane’s tenure in Carolina. Beane is team building the same way he did in Carolina, and it didn’t end great. I worry he’s repeating the same mistakes.

He wasnt the decision maker in Carolina.  Buffalo went all in and kept the 13 sec team together.  That was the closest they ever got.  Gotta rebuild.  Cap space and draft capital in the future to reshape the roster was generated this year by cleaning out the aging core.

  3. In terms of value a future 2nd is less the ideal for a top 5 wr.  Curious how Chris Simms spins this.  Multiple times down the stretch last year he stated that defenses were not going out of their way to take away Diggs.  At most they might bracket him with a body and alignment but not truly doubling him.  A 30 year old plus wr traded for a day 2 pick is about top of market.  On paper its a loss we will see if on the field and standing if it will be.  Compensation is about right.  Truly and end of an Era for Bills football.  Does not mean the team going forward cant meet new heights.

Bills absolutely need someone to win deep routes.  But they didn’t have that with Diggs.

They have 3 guys who can win routes underneath and intermediate now

He was.  This year was the first time where those situations flipped.  Combination of relationship and maybe possibly projected decline.

No one is going to like what I am going to say but,

This reminds me of Tony Romo and T.O.....Now I am not comparing players just the situation.  Allen is light years better than Romo and Owens was much better than Diggs.

the similarity I see is Romo was a young player and could not tell Owens to cool it with his nonsense because Owens was a hall of famer who played with steve young..etc.....Romo had to sit back and let him say whatever he wanted at all times and tolerate his act on the field because if he dared to put him in his place the media would have swooped in and started a feud....(which actually happened in 08)

all the new wr will be forced to listen to Allen, Diggs was never going to because he is an ego maniac and is older than Allen even though he has never really accomplished anything Diggs carries himself like he has.

it sucks they didn't get at least a pick for this year and moved a fourth rounder along with him.  The trade feels like the bills were desperate to move him because he is such a weirdo ego maniac who always speaks in code and can not ever credit anyone else.

so this seems to me like they are now going to package that 2nd rounder next year to move up in the first this year....or to get a 3 or two 3's this year.

I agree.  Allen is/was not the get in your face and lead type.  Maybe that was because he was sort of speak Diggs little big brother.  That relationship was not one where Allen was an authority.  Maybe by removing the older vets it pushes Allen to being a leader. By not having history with those around him it wont feel forced or out of place.  Again this was not a 21 Sundays of the year move.  This was the other 344 days of the year move.

I thought this looked like a rebuild year before this trade and now it's 100% confirmed. Absolutely insane roster mismanagement. He might've been the only player left on the team that actually wanted to win a Super Bowl.

The guy disappeared the last 3 years in the playoffs.  Him not being on offense on paper makes the offense worst.  This isnt paper its humans.  The subtraction of Diggs for the 24 Bills will be interesting to see.

So a lousy 2nd round pick next year and we lose our best WR AND take a huge cap hit? WTF?

A 2nd for a 30 year old wr is above market.  Heck Amari Cooper was traded for a 4th and was younger.

I think the Bills were at the point to just move on.  Have guys that want to be here and play with Josh.  Take the medicine and move on. Having Diggs wont make Buffalo more or less likely to win it all.

  8. If Vaki is there at 200 I take him  every time.  I have gone every which way at 28.  Im the most happy with Worthy at 28.  After the top 3 wrs and Thomas Jr I think Worthy was the most consistent producer in college over his career.  His speed allows him to line up anywhere including X.  I really like how he will stress defenses.  Also, I think he pairs well with a double dip in the 4th.  Rice, Baker or Thrash imo will be available they have the body type lost by Davis but smooth operators in the intermediate.

I think his QB invited the competition a lot of times. I think he is better at separating at the top of his route than you give him credit for... but the ball has to be on him as soon as he separates or else it will turn into a contested catch every time. It is a different kind of separation than what most people talk about though. It isn't Stefon Diggs in his prime juking CBs out of their cleats and catching the ball a full 4 yards away from the nearest body. He instead uses his size and strength to box out the CB and create a window for the ball at the last second, but those windows close fast when your QB is a pure "see it, then see it one more time, then throw it" type.

I agree he could be a great big slot in the NFL but I don't think that's his only role. Guys with his size and strength can be planted outside full time if needed. He has the frame and the look of a true #1 X. But with his run after catch skills he definitely has the inside/out versatility that the Bills love. And he's probably not even fully developed yet - he'll just be turning 21 this May. So when you talk about the physical traits AND upside that you look for in a 1st round pick, he fits the profile.

The question I keep coming back to in these discussions is, what has been our kryptonite (on offense) in our annual playoff losses? To me the answer is obvious - our WRs get bullied by physical man CBs every year. They simply can't match the physical intensity of DBs that are allowed to get away with murder in the playoffs. With Diggs in particular this has been why every year his production from regular season to the playoffs doesn't translate. So I am looking for a counter to that kryptonite and I believe Coleman would be the answer. He doles out the bullying, not the other way around. Give Josh Allen a physical stud on the field with him for the first time in his career.

Kryptonite has been getting bodied by man coverage.  Outside of Diggs who can get open?  Down the stretch Shakir and Kincaid stepped up and showed they could. Coleman is not larger than Davis.  I think Davis is a little more explosive. Imo size is a cherry on top of everything else they do.  Can they seperate, can they stretch a defense vertically.  If size is the answer to either lets look for something better.

He’s a FS which is basically a DB that isn’t quick enough to play DB.  He’s a Hyde clone.

Hyde was a mid rd pick.  I understand what Hyde became.  That was after playing multiple positions in the NFL.  If you draft Copper rd 1 you are doing it thinking he can play Corner not to move him and play Saftey.  If he is not quick enough to play corner you are assuming he has elite awareness to anticipate from a new perspective and position.  The negatives as to why you are moving him only creates more questions for what he will be able to do at safety.  I get a college slot transitioning to a pro safety.  A player that has only played out wide is not a smooth transition to safety.  Rd 1 is too rich.  Beane and Mcdermott both stated instincts and awareness are more important than testing numbers.  There is no telling what his awareness level is while looking at the whole picture instead of his own window.

IMO,  finding a starting safety is more important than finding a #2 WR

Its not though.  In a weak class why draft for a need?  Desean is a corner.  Who knows how long or ever he learns the position to take over Edwards or Rapp.

I’m against almost any 30+ year old vet making vet minimum which is about twice as much as a rookie UDFA minimum. I’d rather save what little money we have and employ no name rookies and give them a chance to prove themselves. If it’s not a big deal and this is only the 5th or 6th DT anyway then it shouldn’t matter. The amount he’ll be on the field is almost non existent anyway. I’m going to apologize if you haven’t heard my argument before, I was under the impression that many were aware of it. Considering I’ve been in multiple arguments with multiple posters here over the past few weeks regarding this very same thing.

I disagree.  Each position needs a standard or floor of play.  For a rookie who has never played in the NFL you have a wide variance of outcomes.  In Johnson and Williams case you have an expectation of how they will perform in Buffalos scheme. Im sure there is optimism that this system will allow them to produce more than they have showed in the past.  Both coming from 2 gap schemes and playing out to the offensive tackle.  If the draft comes around and they take a DT the level of play will have to match or surpass that level.

Drafting to replace holes was what the former regimes did in Buffalo.  The roster never improves that way because every player wont work out.

They should just take him at #28 if Thomas and Mitchell are gone.

Historically, Leggette is not the type of prospect Beane drafts in rd 1.  Majority of the successful first rd wrs are juniors.  I dont hate the player but something to consider.  Allen seemed to like him when he brought his name up.

He is WR5 for me and he would be a tier below Latu as a prospect by my board. I know you don't like him but I'd be closer to having the conversation on Legette. Latu is the half a round higher graded DE from your example if compared to Thomas in my view.

Latu may not be on Buffalos board due to his medicals. Thomas Jr athletic profile and age matches Beanes first rd picks.  Leggette would be a complete outlier from their first rd picks.

How about if Worthy makes it to 28  and then a large jump up in Round 2 for Legette.   I gave up a 2025 2nd for it in a mock

Suddenly you have 2 players that are a threat to score from anywhere and their skill sets complement each other well

I think you can double dip later in the draft.  Rice, Baker or Thrash who have some size and can line up anywhere. If they go for say Mitchell I would look at one of the smaller guys in that same range.
