  1. Dennis Hastert is sprucing up his resume to apply for a job as a state-employed child genital inspector.
  2. Everything they don’t like is communism. Makes it easy so they don’t have to think too hard.
  3. I don’t want to deny your personal experience but I have to say that what you’ve portrayed does not fit the liberal circles I move in at all. From my personal experience, Dems tend to promote policies, even if those policies would benefit Republican voters than Dems (like nationwide rural broadband). For all the vitriol I’ve seen for politicians like Trump and McConnell, or officials like Ronna McDaniel or the Koch’s, the worst I’ve seen about GOP voters themselves is confusion or frustration. More typically, it’s more of not thinking about them much at all, which is certainly a problem (though you see less of that here in the Midwest than you do on the coasts).
  4. There’s a reason why “own the libs” is a thing while “own the cons” isn’t.
  5. That’s the John Edwards defense that got him off on a similar charge. The difference here is that the terms of the NDAs seem be that they expired after the election. They also have testimony that Trump told them to delay making one of the payments because if they delay it to the election, they won’t have to pay at all. Those seem like fairy damming facts that might convince a jury that the payments weren’t about keeping the story from his wife. All of that being said, this is the weakest case Trump is facing. I don’t think it’s as weak as people on PPP seem to (the DA has a good chance here), but it’s not the slam dunk cases that we will see from Jack Smith and Fani Willis.
  6. Well, it only ended the machine like a decade ago. Since then, the city’s been going through a lot of changes with different constituencies valuing different things and vying for power. One of the major problems is that Chicago borders Indiana and is fewer than a three hour drive from Wisconsin. Those states are funneling guns into the city that are being used for crime. There isn’t much a mayor can do to fix that. It’s been a national punching bag for gun violence, but actually has a much lower homicide rate than cities like New Orleans and St. Louis. Some years, the homicide rate is within a point or two of Buffalo, but it’s a bigger city so the raw numbers look worse. Additionally, until recently, the state was run very poorly. In addition to the Chicago Machine, there was a Springfield Machine under Speaker Mike Madigan that was in effect until a couple of years ago. Madigan is now on trial for corruption and bribery. We also kept having governors go to jail. There was a famous clip years ago that you had a higher percentage chance of going to jail if you were the governor of Illinois than if you committed murder. The previous governor intentionally tried to tank the state’s finances to the point where his own party revolted and secretly negotiated a bipartisan budget behind his back. Because of all of that, Chicago couldn’t rely on the state for help when it needed it. Despite that, I think the city is actually doing pretty well despite its challenges. It was actually voted Best big city in the country for the sixth year in a row. The neighborhoods are great, the people are friendly, and the food is incredible. Take it from someone who lives there, life here isn’t anything like what you see on the national news. It’s actually a great place to live. I’m fairly optimistic about the future. Come visit some time. You’ll love it!
  7. The national ratio of cops to population is 2.4 officers per 1,000 people, but in Chicago, we have 4.7 officers per 1,000 people. If more cops was the solution to crime, Chicago would be the safest city in the country.
  8. So, Chicago voters are smart because they got rid of Lightfoot because of crime but they are dumb because they didn’t vote in Vallas because of crime? Is that where we are? Everyone was so certain about the facts on the ground here a month ago…
  9. Wonder how the “it was all about the crime” narrative is going to go if Johnson ends up beating FOP-endorsed Vallas. If only someone had pointed out that it was more complicated than that…
  10. Paragraph 7 of the statement of facts: ”During and in furtherance of his candidacy for President, the Defendant and others agreed to identify and suppress negative stories about him. Two parties to this agreement have admitted to committing illegal conduct in connection with the scheme. In August 2018, Lawyer A pleaded guilty to two federal crimes involving illegal campaign contributions, and subsequently served time in prison. In addition, in August 2018, American Media, Inc. (“AMI”), a media company that owned and published magazines and supermarket tabloids including the National Enquirer, admitted in a non-prosecution agreement that it made a payment to a source of a story to ensure that the source “did not publicize damaging allegations” about the Defendant “before the 2016 presidential election and thereby influence that election.”” So, violations of election laws.
  11. This kind of factual and logical statement has no business here on PPP.
  12. I’m not. I didn’t vote for her. She’s irrelevant. I don’t care about her. If she did crimes, she should be held accountable. The FBI tried but couldn’t make the case (though they did likely tip the election away from her).
  13. IDGAF about Hillary. If she committed a crime, she can be indicted too for all I care. And you do realize somebody has already gone to jail for this set of facts, right? Were you this outraged when that happened?
  14. Or, and get this, maybe a guy who spends a lot of time doing crimes finally had justice catch up to him.
  15. I don’t understand why they think anyone on the left cares about Hunter Biden. Lock him up. Who cares?
  16. The Indictment and Press Release Reading through it now, but thought I'd post for anyone else who wants it
  17. Oh my god. They actually think drag brunch is the same thing as late night drag shows. This would be very embarrassing if they were capable of self-reflection
  18. Well, I’ll wait until I see the entire indictment before I pass judgment on its appropriateness but from what we know publicly, he definitely broke at least one law. Someone even already went to jail for it. As for “revisiting” down the line, I’ll just say that if a Dem politician commits crimes, they should probably be charged too.
  19. Oh no! We created a country where people who commit crimes might face consequences!
  20. Funny how all of these people with strong opinions on drag brunches don’t seem to have ever been to one or know what they actually are. It’s about as sexy as a Chuck E. Cheese show. Maybe the problem is just that they see a man in a dress and it gives them a tingly feeling they feel ashamed about.
