Hard to complain about this pick. Fills a need, ready to start and sounds like a leader.
-
I'd be stoked. While it would be nice to have the kind of talent you can get in the 10 spot, it's better for us this year to make a minor sacrifice in quality for quantity. Lots of starters will be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
-
Give Whaley another year.
Watch him get fired, and then Watkins plays 16 games and has a career year, Ragland, Lawson and Seymour all break out as star players, and we finally get great coaching and make the playoffs.
-
But he and his scouts cant come close to finding the most important position in all of football. Screw the rest, find the QB already!!!!
A lot is made of that and I agree it's a big deal, but it's also true of a lot of gm's. Even great gm's miss on Qb's.
-
Dumb.
10th and 12th in points on offense the past two years.
4th in points on defense in 2014.
Whaley is far from perfect, but I think he's certainly above average. He's brought enough talent to the team, they just need a coach that doesn't suck. Hopefully McDermott is that man, but now it looks like they're blowing up the front office. I know that's what most want, but I don't think it's the right step.
Stop Whaley from trading picks to move up, force him to address the QB position, and then let him do what he's been doing.
Agreed. This is one of those 'careful what you wish for' things for some fans here.
We could get a better gm - but we could get someone much worse. Whaley has a unique ability when it comes to identifying talented players, imo.
-
Tyrod Taylor is really underrated by this fanbase in general. It's interesting - when I talk to fans of other teams, they hold him in higher regard than many here.
I can't wait to see what he can do with real coaching and better receivers.
-
This roster is worse now than at the end of the season.
We'll have to disagree on that one. We finally get Ragland and Lawson for a full season, as well as Watkins. Good depth brought in. Draft coming up.
I remember when Moorman was our best player. Whaley has done a more solid job than many seem to think.
-
He deserves this season, imo. Let's see what this roster he built can do with a capable coach.
-
....who would ever know that a 6th would be GOAT of his era ?.....but BB saw and made use of talent that apparently 31 teams did not see.....at the same time, two instances come to mind when BB did not have Brady and adapted quite well as Chris66 said about his ability......loses Brady for the year and goes 11-5 with Cassel (shockingly NOT good enough to make playoffs)....3-1 with greenhorn Brissett with Brady and Jimmy G out also...guy just has "IT".............
Well, his coaching covers for gm mistakes also. I'm convinced that you could put he and Brady with any roster in the nfl at this point. And they'd make a deep playoff run.
A bit too much is made of that 11-5, though. That team was undefeated the previous year.
-
you are so off base in this post.
First off BB doesnt have a system. Unless that system is to be flexible and adapt.
BB system through the years have consistef of everythinh from power run game ,to wide open passing, 2 te and everything in between.
His essential point is spot on.
BB's job as a gm is made infinitely easier by the fact that he has the goat QB, who works at a discount. He's able to routinely let star players walk in a way that other teams with average Qb's could never overcome.

Mike Gillislee
But in seriousness, Pats are a bad example. They have 5 RBs now, so a lot of depth.
Pats fans are saying now that their running attack will be unstoppable. Not sure I see the logic there. They just have more backs than usual.
-
Even without Gillislee we don't need to draft a RB. We have Shady, Williams and Tolbert. How many touches are there to go around? Don't waste a pick, just sign a Udfa incase of injuries or to fill out the preseason and camp
Exactly this. I won't be surprised at all if they don't draft a rb.
-
You are hoping that Williams will be good. we already knew MG was. McCoy could miss time with injuries and there is no legit back behind him right now. MG was a nice change of pace back.
Good at that, yes - but not quite as good when he had to start. Williams may be better on that front.
Again, they may know more about Williams right now than we do, and have a higher level of confidence that he can fill in just as well if not better, and at lower cost.
-
It's not just being questionable on his talent. It's having to use a draft pick, when this roster is full of holes, on another RB.
Why do they have to use a draft pick?
We're talking about needing a 3rd string guy here.
-
lol because OBD knows how to win. They should have placed the second round tender on him to begin with.
Debatable. It wasn't exactly a huge discussion when they didn't.
They may know more than we do about the potential of Jonathan Williams. Top prospect before his injury, and back to 100% by what we're hearing. And I don't really care that he didn't look good last year - 25 carries is not any kind of measure.
-
This is what complicates Whaley's legacy. He has done great with FA's and waiver wire guys, but has drafted terribly.
I would hardly say the drafts have been terrible. Last year's in particular might yield 3-4 starters.
-
BB is their GM, so not well.
They would have to change their strategy significantly without Brady, but I wouldn't bet against them. They'd switch to a simpler system on offense, probably more run-heavy. They'd still likely be in the hunt every year.
We'll find out soon enough.
I used to feel the same way about Shula and the fins. Then the '90's happened.
Teams can look invincible until they're not.
-
Yeah Whaley takes a lot of heat but he's actually not as "terrible" as everyone makes him out to be.
He has a good eye for talent. The roster right now is really very good. I'm actually pretty surprised at how active we've been this offseason.
I thought we wouldn't be able to do much given the cap situation, but they did a good job of clearing space and bringing in players for depth.
-
I still think Hogan is one of the most overrated players in the league.
I watched his big games with the pats. He excelled because he was basically left uncovered a fair amount of the time, or because a defender blew an assignment. He's a decent receiver, but obviously made better by Brady, as Brady has done with a lot of players over the years.
-
Love the comparison to Zack.
He sounds ready to go. I don't think our run game misses a beat.
-
It's so ridiculous reading the general boards and seeing all of the comments about the Bills being the Pats farm club, and BB outsmarting everyone.
Has it occurred to anyone that this might work out for both teams?
People should go back and check the scouting on Jonathan Williams. This guy tore it up in college and would have been a high round pick if not for his injury. He didn't get much of a chance last year, but he could easily do as well as MG, if not better.
-
Funny how most Bills fans and media thought this, however the people running the organization didn't...actually kinda scary.
Did they?
I don't remember one thread or article stating that at the time.
-
Make what stop?
A thread about a 2nd string rb.
I think it's the push-pull in his head between you and unconditionally defending the organization.
I guess there is a fine line between thinking that losing MG isn't tragic, and unconditionally defending the organization.

Make it stop.
