  1. You mean a 5th rounder taking the job from a guy drafted in the 6th round? You mean from a guy who is a better QUARTERBACK coming out than Taylor? Yeah, very possible

Look... anything is possible, but that incredible gleam in everyone's eyes is about a 5th round pick vs a QB with 30 NFL starts playing at a clearly NFL starter level. Amazing how much that fact is overlooked...

  2. what are the odds Tyrod gets benched this year.

i will go on record that i think:

by the quarter pole, the odds are 10%

by the halfway mark, the odds are 50/50

by the three quarter pole, the odds are 75%

last game of the season, the odds are 95%

gone in the off season, 99%

    what say you?

    Wow...

People are apparently going nuts because we just drafted a QB.

With those odds you must be willing to put some money on Taylor being benched at some point, right?

    95%...?

    Wanna bet?

If those are really your odds I would think you'd want to...

  3. You never know what can happen. Fully expect Tyrod to be our starter but part of finding a great QB is luck and circumstances. Perhaps Peterman is coming to the right team with the right coaches and system that will allow him to succeed. It's a long shot but certainly not impossible

It's a longer shot than Taylor just playing better than 2016 and earning another longer term renegotiated deal. A much longer shot.

  4. This should be a pick loved by every Bills fan on both sides of the QB fence.

For the "Tyrod is our QB (at least now)" fans: This pick solidifies the fact that Tyrod is Buffalo's starting QB in 2017 and demonstrates a "here are the keys to the car, let's see what you can do" attitude by McDermott for the 2017 season. If Tyrod and the Bills exceed expectations and Taylor plays better than 2016 and more to the level of or better than 2015 and the Bills make the playoffs, don't expect Buffalo to draft a QB in round 1 again next year, despite 2 first round picks because Taylor might get another renegotiated deal and a longer term, more secure one in the offseason.

    BUT

For the Tyrod dissenters: This trade down affords Buffalo the unique opportunity in 2018 in a (supposedly... like always) strong QB class to either draft a QB high because we sucked in 2017 and have a very high pick (which I don't think will happen) or we have the opportunity to use that 2nd 1st rounder (and likely compensatory picks considering our FA losses this year) to trade up for Darnold or another QB we like.

Plus, we got an extra 3rd round draft class in a clearly deep draft class where there are a good number of extremely talented players on the board.

    Win on all sides!

Except for KC... who SEVERELY overdrafted a QB.

  5.

Yes, he was hitting guys over the middle consistently. But unfortunately, it was the short middle, an area he's never had a problem with.

In the deep and intermediate middle third - the area he's always thrown to very little - he continued to avoid it.Which makes the passing game easier to defend, because if a guy fakes outside and goes in you can bit on the outside fake and not get punished very often, whereas if he fakes inside, you're probably not going to fall for it or worry about it

Thurm, you're like a parrot that responds at certain signals calling out the same songs despite the fact that they've been disproven time and again, but saying them, anyway.

Taylor progressed in 2016 from 2015 in terms of both volume but especially efficiency at those throws over the middle of the field, including particularly the intermediate section. We've already established time and time and time and time again that the deep middle section of the field is and was never a big concern because it's not an area of the field the vast majority of NFL QBs go to very often.

Despite your theories about the deep section of the field, the vast majority of NFL QBs, including the really good ones, throw the ball disproportionately to the sidelines more than they do to the middle of the field 20+ yards.

  6. Its because hes in check mate. Hes forced to take qb now at ten. Its the only way to save his job. Fo knows this and thats not a sound draft strategy. ( WHICH IS WHY TERRY YOU SHOULDVE FIRED HIM MONTHS AGO).

Its embarassing that our fo cannot think this stuff through

He's forced to take a QB at 10 now...?

Funny, that's not what I got out of it.

    Thursday will be interesting...

  7. You're not going to try and spin this are you? Our passing attack was trash. I know it makes Tyrod look bad but he's a responsible party in that outcome.

I'm not spinning anything. Our passing game wasn't great and it wasn't good. But I don't know if you're being purposefully hyperbolic using the word "abysmal" or not.

  8.

There is really nothing that can sway people on this. Tyrod didn't throw the ball because of Roman, Lynn, great running game, Rex Ryan, etc

    He is an untapped treasure.

There's really nothing that can sway anyone. You folks are clearly dug in on passing yards and passing attempts as the ultimate indictment on Taylor.

If we can't convince you passing yards and passing attempts aren't as critical as you think they are (after the total number of passing attempts per game goes above a reasonable number... like 20 or 25), then why bother on either side?

  9. Are we going to pretend our passing game wasn't abysmal? You'd think a great running game would help that aspect of the offense right?

If you define the passing game solely in terms of volume, which apparently a number of posters here do, then yeah, Buffalo's passing game was at the bottom of the league.

Is that really how a passing game should be defined, though? Look at passing attempts and passing yards and then pass judgment...?

  10.

And why do they rely on the run? Tyrod has had two different coordinators and neither had any desire to put the ball in Tyrod's hands as a passer. Roman talked about opening up the offense after 2015 and he got fired after 2 games in 2016. Lynn smartly simplified the offense and kept the ball out of Tyrod's hands as a passer. When Tyrod was forced to throw the ball in close games or in the 4th quarter we all saw the results. Not pretty.

if Dennison tries to pass the ball too much with Tyrod he will be the next out the door.

Yeah... that's why the very first game Lynn coached against Arizona he called 8 passing plays and 2 running plays in the first 10 plays (1 of those running plays being a designed run by Taylor) and 13 passing plays and 7 running plays in the first 20 plays (with 2 of those 7 runs being designed runs by Taylor) and the 2nd game he coached in Foxborough was clearly a pass-centric offense with Taylor passing the ball 39 times and getting his first victory when passing more than 30 times.

Yeah... Lynn's goal was totally to keep the ball out of Tyrod's hands as a passer.

  11. You need to pay closer attention. Just because he can escape pressure and make plays with his legs as well, does not mean he isn't a pocket passer. He is.

Not all that much more than Taylor is...

No "pure pocket passer" will have a completion % as low as Newton consistently does...

  12. some of the stuff has been REALLY inconsistent though, so i doubt we see those things turn into strengths suddenly. is he capable of hitting his 5th step and firing a laser over the middle and hitting a guy in stride -- sure. any qb at that level can do it inconsistently. can he do it INCREDIBLY consistently like the top qbs? he probably wont get there.

As PolishDave kinda referenced, you're probably never going to like Taylor because he's never ever going to be Brady or Rivers or Brees.

There's always going to be a component of escape ability and improvisation to his game.

But the thing is, Aaron Rodgers has proven that even if those components are big parts of your game, you can still be great.

No, I'm not saying Taylor is at Rodgers's level or ever will be.

I'm saying that you (and others) have in your mind a QB mold that Taylor will absolutely never be, even if he becomes great (which he isn't).

Taylor was actually hitting WRs over the middle more consistently (and effectively) in 2016 than 2015. But you say he has to be "INCREDIBLY" consistent.

Seems like something he could never achieve. Or if he became "INCREDIBLY" consistent, the bar goes up to "SUPER DUPER INCREDIBLY" consistent.

Taylor's not the "pure pocket passer" some want. It doesn't mean a QB with his playing style and skill set can't be great (and again, no, I'm not saying he's great or will be).

  13. if we can negotiate his contract down he wouldn't be a bad option. Did Dennison not coach him in Denver? I think we might be looking at a Rich Gannon / Jim Plunkett situation here where a guy can succeed in the right circumstances

Dude... this is the 2nd time in one page you're bringing up a guy who played at an NFL MVP level for a few years and an NFL HOFer...

It's ludacrous. You're talking about a guy who was absolutely atrocious and has never even played at a high level.

Taylor has a much better chance of doing what you're talking about because Dennison's system certainly seems right for him; and even there I don't think the chances are high.

  14. he may correct things, but i dont think we suddenly see him make a HUGE jump. He threw a ton in college, had several years pro coaching, and has now played a substantial number as a pro.

a healthy sammy may really boost his production, but i dont think he suddenly starts hitting his back foot in the drop and on time firing lasers to the middle of the field and hitting guys in stride consistently either.

He needs a jump in consistency more than anything. He doesn't need a huge jump in what he can do and has done on the field. He just needs to do what he's done well more consistently.
