Interesting conversation.
Let's be honest @KDIGGZ and his cohort will be negative about anything.
Coleman reportedly ran the 2nd fastest speed on a go route (along with the fastest gauntlet drill of at least the last 2 drafts) at 21.71 mph. I don't know math like @oldmanfan, but a quick Google search tells me a it would be 18.18 mph to run 4.5 seconds in a flying 40.
Maybe Coleman just didn't prepare to run the way a lot of guys do for the Combine. It's a Combine specific event... not like they'll ever do that again.
Dude's not slow. Watch him return punts. So young and so much untapped potential.
I think it's amazing how much his 40 time dropped his draft stock. Lucky for Buffalo, we hope.

No there isn't

Not only this, Sal Capaccio reported on his podcast that Josh was on a retreat somewhere with the WRs and TEs. So it's already happening... and it's likely always been happening more than people think... and people are idiots.

FWIW, Soloman is Bruce Feldman's favorite value pick in the 5th round

The problem with KJ Hamler (and Cephus for that matter) is that they've been plagued by injuries.
Hamler has had two torn ACLs (HS and pro), two hammies serious enough for IR as a pro, a torn pec, and pericarditis. If it weren't for bad injury luck, he'd have no luck at all.
Isabella came out with questions about his hands, and has never managed to get on the field very much. The positive thing is he saw some ST snaps last season - not as the returner, but presumably as a gunner due to his speed.
So if Brady has plans that require a guy with their skillsets, it f'in sucks that we didn't take a draft shot at a similar profile player who hasn't racked up the years of ??If we're talking dark horse WR at the bottom of the roster, Bryan Thompson interests me. He's not a super speedy guy, but the draft profile I found (and I had to dig) had very positive things to say about his route-running abilities and release moves, and concluded he was worth stashing on a PS for a year to see if he could develop. So we signed him as an UDFA and stashed him....now we'll see.
Dude... Isabella or Hamler would be at best the 4th WR in something resembling the McKenzie role. Our top 3 is Shakir, Samuel and Coleman.
I think that starting trio is much better than what people think it will be as those 3 skillsets complement each other very well. The Diggs role may be downgraded from last season (though I really am excited to see what Brady has in store for Samuel) but the Davis role I view as a significant upgrade and it's year 3 for Shakir and now he gets the chance to hit the ground running in week 1. And our WR depth is better.

*EDITED POST DRAFT... UDFAs not included*
So after the draft I believe we've filled out our roster pretty nicely.
Everyone is absolutely freaking out about our WR corps, but I think we've underestimated the likelihood that Brady has some planned role in this offense for Hamler or Isabella... whoever wins that 2-way competition. Those 2 guys are basically the exact player that would complement the drafting of Coleman.
And Justin Shorter still lurks at the bottom of our depth chart as that sneaky 5th round contributor Beane is known to draft.

This quote from Beane defines the entire draft strategy:
He is giving it to us straight. The Bills are in a rebuild year. So he went for all team captains. Guys that interviewed well. Guys that he believes set a new foundation of leadership in the building. He hunted for short term needs that fit the singular character profile he and McDermott feel comfortable with, at the expense of talent at premium positions. And he is telling the fanbase to temper our expectations without coming right out and saying it.
I'm not gonna grade a draft until we see how all the players turn out, but the overall philosophy shown this weekend is deflating and uninspiring.
I don't exactly know if by "rebuild year" you mean that as a negative thing, though based on your tone it seems so.
Of course they're rebuilding. We knew that on Black Wednesday. But rebuilding with an Elite QB and a bunch of other already established young talent on the team (Cook, Kincaid, Dawkins, Cybo, Groot, Milano, TB, Benford, Shakir, etc.) and some well established vets like Daquan, Von and Douglas doesn't mean this team isn't contending.
You guys are all nuts.
Buffalo is winning at least as many games in 2024 as 2023.

Greg Cosell put Franklin and Walker in the same bucket but said Tez has more upside... mainly because of the extra 20 lbs

We just drafted a better and smoother version of Sutton at 33 in Keon Coleman.
That according to Anthony the film dude at Cover 1

A lot of people here were clamoring for trading for Courtland Sutton.
Greg Cosell was on One Bills Live tonight with his Instant Reaction. Brownie asked about the Courtland Sutton comparison that's been out there. Cosell said Coleman is smoother than Sutton and obviously with better hands.

Man... this thread reminds me so much of the thread when we drafted Allen. I say that being one of the posters adamantly against drafting Allen.
I think Coleman proves everyone wrong.
Does this look like a guy who lacks in-game athleticism?

I'm a tad nervous because I've been pumping up Coleman as a great pick, and now if he sucks I'm gonna look stupid. But man his size and competitiveness and hands just get me really excited. Allen is a gunslinger. He just got his guy he can launch the ball to downfield 1v1.
It's okay Hap. I'm with you... and unlike Josh Allen, I can legitimately say I liked Coleman and didn't understand the hate before the draft.
That said, I am also nervous.

@HappyDays seemed to really have a premonition with all his Coleman talk today.
Going back to my first view of him, I really liked him. He was kind of an odd faller. Seems like he would have been a mid 1st round pick if not for his 40 time. All this talk of him being like Kelvin Benjamin is ridiculous. Watch him return punts for the Seminoles. Plus there's the gauntlet drill.
Buffalo clearly coveted this guy and knew he'd fall a bit. Perfect fit in the sense that we don't have anyone like him.

My dream is Coleman and Franklin tomorrow. Two WRs with different physical gifts. Plant them on the field with Josh Allen for the next 5+ years and prosper.
I'm low key on the Coleman train myself. I really feel like his 40 time was just a horrible grenade that exploded his offseason. He just doesn't look that slow. And I was super impressed with his YAC ability.
I feel the same way about Franklin in terms of how unwarranted their precipitous fall after the Combine was.
I wonder if the Bills trade back a fee again just because they view 4 or 5 WRs with the same grade.
I would be really surprised if we didn't pick WR with our next pick, though. As high as the draft world is on guys like Newton and DeJean, we just passed on them twice.

I say Franklin/McConkey/Coleman or DeJean.
And than trade up a little bit in 2nd and 3rd to find some other starters.
Oooohhhh thanks for this. Forgot about Coleman.
I think he absolutely might be our pick

I know Mitchell is the obvious projection, but I think we'll draft McConkey.

All true. But restructuring Allen again continues kicking the can down the road. And even if they do both that will give them $21mil with 2 rookie classes to pay for/ 13 empty roster spots (probably $15-$20mil just to fill in the roster and sign draft picks) plus Rasul Douglas and Spencer Brown. They aren't going to have to overhaul the roster again or anything but they are probably not going to have space to go sign a top tier WR/DE next year either. I still think the best use of draft resources this year and next year is to spend early picks on positions that are expensive in FA like WR/DE/CB/OT.. after Von Miller and Josh Allen there aren't a lot of cap saving moves available to Buffalo next year.
2 rookie classes? What are you talking about? There's only one rookie class every year.
Where on earth are you getting your numbers. Right now the Bills are about $3m under and then get $10m more on June 1st. I don't know if you're counting our cap money this year towards next year, but if you are you're even off with those numbers.

I agree - add a legit WR and it adds 2-3 wins to the expectations.
I posted the roster because I think it just shows that our only truly GAPING hole is at WR.

That is a solid 9-8 team
Fill out the WR corps with a 1st round pick and a guy like Javon Baker in the later rounds and get us a short yardage back like Estime and it's a 12+ win team.

Shaw... was arguing the Bills would be better next year before this draft even happened... so obviously, I agree with you.
To me, the national media is somehow gifting Buffalo the underdog mentality, which baffles my mind... but I think we take it and run with it.
