Micah Hyde - surprise cap casualty?
transplantbillsfan replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team needs to find money to pay Allen and not get worse. I don't know how much we save on the CAP if we cut him, but I know we save something like $8 million on the CAP in cutting John Brown. I like both Brown and Hyde a lot, but if you have players you think you can replace them with and it's not too much of a step down and you're able to save plenty for extending Allen and potentially resigning Milano, which I actually think we should do, do it. If cutting Hyde saves us a few million on the CAP, yes I think we should definitely consider it. -
Micah Hyde - surprise cap casualty?

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I think he and John Brown might be gone next year. I really think the staff might want to give Jaquan Johnson his shot. -
I'm not one of those money/CAP experts, but saying that one of your 2 or 3 most consistent defensive players who's only going to be 27 at the start of next year should just be let go of is silly. To me you need to categorize Milano and then pay him top 5 probably at his position. The hard part is categorizing him. Milano is classified as "OLB," but so is Khalil Mack. And hell no should Milano be paid like Mack because they don't play the same position even if both are classified as "OLB." So find the other LBs in the NFL who aren't in the "edge rusher" category the way Mack and Von Miller are and then pay him in the top 5 of that with some clauses in there in terms of injury. That's what I think they should/will do. Milano is homegrown talent and he really was one of the best--if not the best--defensive players on the field this year.

I see a lot of people saying Josh was bad yesterday and turned into "Sugar High Josh," but every time they were showing our WRs they were just blanketed with coverage. What was Josh supposed to do? To me, if anything he should've started scrambling earlier and more since our WRs weren't bailing him out and our OL wasn't doing a great job. Yes, he took bad sacks and lost too much yardage, but I didn't think that was "Sugar High Josh..." it was him realizing that he had to carry the team on his shoulders yesterday for the team to have any shot.

Strangely I don't really feel overly emotional or hugely disappointed. Just hungry. I want to get back to next season because this past season we took another step and honestly we're getting to the "Super Bowl WIN or bust" stage moving forward. Kansas City is just clearly the better team this year... I would like to know why and how we get better. I don't think it's too much that needs to be done, but definitely some critical things.

There's a lot of great stuff here, but I don't agree on Edmunds and Milano. We're past the days of dominant defensive LBs. Rules just favor the offense too much. Edmunds and especially Milano are high quality LBs. I think Milano was our best defensive player in 2021. I want him re-signed as long as he's being relatively reasonable. And Edmunds really changed my opinion on him this year as I thought he was much better seeking contact and stuffing the run. If we have liabilities on Defense, I really don't think it starts with those 2 players. I don't think I'll ever really understand the term "bend but don't break" if that's what yesterday's game plan was defensively. We allowed a bunch of huge plays yesterday and KC's defense was scoring TD after TD. How was that bend but don't break?

Brown- should they cut him?
transplantbillsfan replied to Aussie Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beasley sticks. Brown is expendable... and saves something like $8 million for our Cap if we cut him. Shame because when healthy I think he's an excellent #2. But Davis will very much suffice and we need money to sign the likes of Allen and Milano. -
And I used the word "hump" rather than "problem" because we just made it to the AFC Championship game. This team doesn't really have a problem, but there's definitely a hump to get over with KC. I watched Mahomes throwing to a wide open Hill or Kelce throughout the entire AFC Championship Game. I damn well assume our coaches knew that was coming... or do you think they didn't and it was a coaching issue??? Or do you think they knew and we just had a bad game plan and it was a scheme issue??? Or do you think we just lack the talent to match up on Defense??? White is supposed to be an Elite CB... has he really looked like that at all this year? Who else on our D can match-up with these guys? And who on the front 4 can generate pressure??? I tend to think that other than Milano, Edmunds, White and Poyer... losing or letting go of almost anyone else on our D in the off-season just won't be a big deal. I also think getting Star back--as long as he's motivated--will really help. On the opposite side of the ball... I was encouraged by going for it on an early 4th down and disappointed with 2 Red Zone 4th downs we took FGs instead of going for it. I guess the no huddle stuff was a problem early with the crowd noise, but we should've been ready. So what about scheme? Did Daboll plan for too much over the top? Or has he not been coaching Josh enough to take the underneath stuff? And I swear I'm gonna bash my head against the wall every year saying this, but Allen needs to be coached to understand that scrambling equals a checkdown... and often better. We finally saw designed runs mostly cut from the offense and Allen use his legs on broken passing plays, but I think he should've been doing more of this today and throughout the season in general. Okay, so is it talent on offense??? Diggs and Allen are the core Elite guys obviously... so who else is the problem??? Was it a health issue tonight? Davis, Brown and Beasley were all clearly hobbled. Is that why on every passing play our WRs looked bracketed??? If not, is it an upgrade we need? At what position and who gets cut. Our running game is woefully underwhelming... so we obviously need to upgrade our RB corps... plus our OL??? Which positions??? I feel good about Allen working hard this off-season to get better and think he will even if his numbers next year aren't at the level they were this year. So then what the heck does this team truly need to be a Super Bowl Champ next year since next season is clearly Super Bowl or bust???

1/24/21 AFC Championship Game Postgame Thread

Here's the video -
I've been checking multiple weather sites and it looks like there won't be nearly the precipitation they were predicting just a couple days ago and winds don't seem like they'll get any stronger than 10 mph with some 15 mph gusts. That's what I'm seeing right now at least just a couple hours before kickoff. So weather really shouldn't be a factor. Old one if that's where you've watched all season... Obviously.

I'm just not typically one for the melodramatic, but both of Kyle Brandt's videos over the last 2 weeks gave me goosebumps.

Screw them all. Let's all remember that Josh Allen had a few weeks there after the Raiders game where he was still clearly recovering from an injury. Also, we didn't play that game with Milano in the lineup and Edmunds was hobbled. Allen's healthy now. I know that we're dealing with some injuries from Davis and Beasley, but McDermott made it sound like Beas will be good. Plus John Brown is back and healthy and had a sneaky good game last week against the Ravens. I'm not excited about the fact that it looks like it's going to be raining, but it appears it won't be too windy. I hope Allen took something from that game in the rain in Buffalo and gets better from it. And then there's Milano, who I really think is just the X-factor of our D. Here's an interesting snippet from Joe B's All-22 in The Athletic's analysis of the Baltimore game: https://theathletic.com/2335118/2021/01/20/bills-ravens-josh-allen-dion-dawkins-matt-milano/ 5) Milano is proving why he should be an offseason priority For the second straight week in the playoffs, Bills linebacker Matt Milano showed that when he’s on the field for every snap, he makes the entire defense better. In addition to tackles and pass breakups, Milano made several standout plays against the Ravens that he wasn’t credited for on the stat sheet. Milano redirected rush attempts back inside by filling exterior run lanes. He fought through blocks to help plug running lanes and force Lamar Jackson to keep the ball on zone-reads, as the Bills had planned. Milano also scared Jackson off from throwing to his zone. The Bills will have some significant offseason decisions to make when they get there, especially if the salary cap decreases to the $176 million floor. Milano, an unrestricted free agent, ranks near the top of those decisions. He has been an outright difference-maker for the Bills. Right guard Jon Feliciano and right tackle Daryl Williams have both produced this season, but Milano’s overall impact is the biggest reason he should be the Bills’ top priority among UFAs in the offseason.

This morning when I was listening to Colin Cowherd, he basically ranked the order of most interesting to least interesting Super Bowl. From most to least: Kansas City vs Tampa Bay Kansas City vs Green Bay Buffalo vs Tampa Bay Buffalo vs Green Bay His cohost Joy agreed with him, but in agreeing with him, she said something that I think is so true. She said "we just don't know enough about Josh Allen, yet." And neither of them were saying the Bills in the Super Bowl would be uninteresting. They were actually praising the fact that we're bound for an interesting Super Bowl, no matter what. But I just thought that statement was a good representation of the nation right now and its perception of Buffalo

Bru, stop trying to wiggle out of what you said. Contrary to what you've been arguing here, the Bills players DO thrive off negative or neglectful media attention. That's what you've been arguing. You were wrong. Just admit it and move on. What you're now shifting the argument to is whether the media truly is negative or neglectful in its media attention towards the Bills. Bravo! You're shifting back to the essence of what I was arguing in the OP after going off on tangents. And as I stated in the OP... yes... yes I think it is when taken holistically.
